A guide that will teach you how to configure Half-Life to make it look more original and 1998-ish
Introduction
This guide will tell you how to play Half-Life in such a way that you will start to enjoy it- instead of just playing this so you can play the sequels without being clueless.
There are two things you have to take care of:
1. Playing with the non-HD pack.
2. Playing in full-screen.
So, let’s start.
1. Removing the HD pack.
HD pack is something that is stopping you from playing the game the way it was back when it was released, in 1998. So, let’s remove the folder and get ourselves the original-looking models.
To find the HD pack folder, you have to locate to this main folder:
Now, that you are in the Half-Life folder, you have to find another folder, simply named “valve_hd“. Cut that folder and paste it somewhere you can remember. For instance, I placed it in my “Downloads” folder. The reason why we are not deleting this is covered later in the guide.
Now, paste it in any folder you wish, make sure you remember where it is though. I have pasted it in my Downloads folder.
The reason we are not deleting this folder is because; you don’t want to lose the integrity of your game. This is nothing much to worry about. Don’t worry. It’s just for the sake of our insecurities, that we are keeping this folder safe and sound. The folder really doesn’t have something which, if removed, would corrupt your game, it’s just a texture pack. In case you face any bugs in the game, you may verify the integrity of your files, and Steam might flag it as negative only because the HD pack folder is missing. If that happens in any case, just cut the folder from where you placed it and paste it from where you “plucked” it from at the first place. Basically, do the reverse of what the guide told you.

2. Playing in full-screen.
Originally, Half-Life would launch in a resolution, which I presume to be 800×600, That’s because the game came back in 1998 and at that time you did not have HD monitors. But now, you do have HD monitors, so here’s how to get the game running in HD resolution i.e, 1920×1080.
First, go to the Launch Options of the game. To do so, click on “Half-Life” in your library and follow the steps:
Now, copy this code:
And paste it in the Launch Options settings, so it should look like it is below.
Now, when you launch your game, it should launch in HD resolution i.e, 1920×1080.
