Phasmophobia Guide

Ghost Rankings for Phasmophobia

Ghost Rankings

Overview

In this guide we will be determining the best and worst ghosts in Phasmophobia with a ranking system. I will list a description of all ghost types and the reason for its ranking descending down the list. The ghost’s ranking will be determined by how difficult it is to identify the ghost, how difficult it is to survive a hunt, and how often the ghost hunts.

Spirit (1/10)

First up on our list as the easiest ghost in the game to counter, undoubtably, is the Spirit. The Spirit, as we know, has no strengths to make the ghost unique and powerful and it has an extremely vulnerable weakness; smudge sticks. Smudge sticks typically will prevent ghost huntings for 90 seconds, however, with a spirit the banishment of activity can last for about 5 minutes. The findings we need to identify a spirit are Spirit Box, Fingerprints, and Ghost Writing. Enough said let’s move on to #11 on the list.

Shade (2/10)

Next up is the shy Shade. Now Shades, while they might have a very easy weakness to use an advantage which is crowds or grouping up which causes the Shade to stop most activity, its strength can be somewhat of an annoyance. This is that shades are well, shy, hence the name, meaning even if someone in the room is alone with the ghost, it will rarely manifest itself and is proven to be a bit on the more challenging side to determine. Nevertheless, Shades are very easy to avoid hunts and they have nothing to help them when they hunt, so due to this the Shade earns the #11 spot. The findings we need to determine a Shade are EMF Lvl. 5, Ghost Orbs, and Ghost Writing.

Oni (2/10)

Our #10 spot goes to the Oni. Now while the Oni is “the cousin of the Demon” don’t let this fool you on how easy it is to counter these guys. Oni’s basically have no strengths other than it will throw objects at you at times. The main reason Oni’s are far down the list is its weakness. Oni’s will manifest themselves and increase activity when there are a large group of people in the room, but it will not hunt. This means that as long as there are people in the room, you can grab all your evidence and leave without the risk of hunting as long as your sanity is above 50%. The findings we need to identify an Oni are EMF Lvl. 5, Spirit Box, and Ghost Writing.

Poltergiest (3/10)

Next up is the Poltergiest. The Poltergiest is very similar to the Oni in that its strength is that it will throw many objects at you, however it will do this much more frequently when you are alone. This is because the Poltergiest’s weakness is empty rooms. The Poltergiest will refuse to manifest or show itself when there is nobody nearby. Think of the Poltergiest’s weakness as a reverse Oni but with the same strengths. The evidence we need to identify a Poltergiest are Spirit Box, Fingerprints, and Ghost Orbs.

Yurei (5/10)

Up next on our list is the Yurei. The Yurei I believe is sort of the start of the more difficult ghosts. Yureis have the same exact weakness as a Spirit where it will stop most activity for 5 minutes when its favorite room has been smudged. But do not let this fool you as Yureis have a very difficult to counter strength being that it will drop your sanity. Sanity is the root of hunts and if the average sanity of all people present in the building drops below 50%, the ghost has the ability to hunt and kill. You must be aware of all times with your sanity against a Yurei and I recommend having a person in the van to be aware of everybody’s vitals. However, due to the weakness, the Yurei deserves #8 on our list. The findings we need to identify a Yurei are Ghost Orbs, Ghost Writing, and Freezing Temps.

Phantom (5/10)

Next is the Phantom, now these next couple of Ghosts are going to be somewhat debatable but i believe this is the correct order. The Phantom is definitely one of the more tricky Ghosts due to its strength. Whilst the Phantom is manifesting itself or hunting, simply just looking at the ghost will drop your sanity by 25%! This is a massive strength that shouldn’t be taken lightly as looking at the ghost is the only way to expose its weakness; camera shy. Yes, the phantoms are camera shy and they will visually disappear after taking a photo of the Phantom which is a dead give away the Ghost is indeed a Phantom. The Phantom will only show itself in short intervals of time during a hunt making it hard to loop and outrun. However due to the obvious weakness this ghost places in at #7 on this list. The findings we will need to identify a Phantom are EMF Lvl. 5, Ghost Orbs, Freezing Temps.

Jinn (6/10)

Next is the Jinn which is a very unique ghost. It is very rare to face up against a Jinn in Phasmophbia but when you do, you MUST know how to counter it. Jinns have the power to basically teleport to a player that is within more than 4 meters away from the ghost and can catch you off balance. Due to this, the Jinn is one of the hardest ghosts to counter for new players as many of them don’t understand how much of a menace the Jinn is. This power causes the ghost to be hard to track where it spawned to crucify the area and can make the ghost very hard to loop and outrun. This strength is somewhat easy to counter though if you know what you are doing. If the breaker ceases and all power is lost, the Jinn cannot fast travel to players during a hunt and it completely loses its strength. This can be a dead give away over time to determine you are dealing with a Jinn. Ideally, the way to counter a Jinn is to make sure the breaker is off, hide in a room, and understand what you are dealing with fast. The findings you will need to identify a Jinn are Spirit Box, Ghost Orbs, and EMF Lvl. 5.

Mare (6/10)

Next on this list is the Mare. Now the Mare is quite simple, if you are a high level player at the game. But for new players, this ghost is not something to mess around with. The Mare’s strength is that it will drain everybody’s sanity in the house if you remain in the dark. Mare’s will have an increase in the ability to hunt if you remain in the dark for too long. This can also serve as a weakness, however, if you have a person in the van and see that if the people that are staying in the dark have a significant decrease in sanity. This is how you can abuse this strength. Given, all you must do is turn on the lights and make sure the breaker is always on, or else. The findings you will need to identify a Mare are Spirit Box, Ghost Orbs, and Freezing Temps.

Demon (7/10)

In our #4 spot we have, what might surprise some people, the Demon. Now the demon has a valid strength that is understandable to be afraid of, the thing is extremely agressive and will hunt often. Due to this it is somewhat difficult to get your evidences documented, but if you notice that the ghost is hunting frequently, you can soon narrow down the fact that you are dealing with one of the Devil. This ghost has a unique weakness that you can communicate with the Ouija Board without diminishing you sanity. You can abuse this by asking the ghost important questions and having someone in the van monitor your sanity, and if it doesn’t dramatically decrease, you have yourself a Demon. The findings we need to identify a Demon are Spirit Box, Ghost Writing, and Freezing Temps.

Wraith (8/10)

Our first ghost on our opening in our top 3 is the Wraith! Wraiths have a unique strength that is hard to counter if you are not a high level. Wraiths will go through doors and travel through walls in a hunt. Now comes in the beginner factor, hint, the ghost can always hear you even when you are not talking in game. This means that if you are hiding in a general vicinity of where the wraith spawns, and you talk, the Wraith might hear you and travel through the door or closet, to send you into the afterlife. Little is known of the Wraith but just remain calm and don’t go anywhere near it. I prefer looping and running away from wraiths as you can outrun them and they can be extremely unpredictable when hiding as they have been known to kill people who remain silent and hide in a room near the haunted room. However you can prevent a hunt from a Wraith as they are allergic to salt. Salt can serve as a crucifix to the wraith where if it spawns near salt, the hunt will stop for a brief duration of time. The Wraith isn’t the hardest thing in the world to identify as they don’t leave footsteps. The Findings you will need to identify the Wraith are Spirit Box, Fingerprints, and Freezing Temps.

Banshee (9/10)

Coming as the second hardest Ghost in the game is the Banshee! The Banshee is by far the most unpredictable ghost in the game and, in my opinion, is much more aggressive than the Demon. Banshee’s have been known to attack those who are alone without reason and will show no mercy. While the Banshee is an extreme Atheist whom which hates the crucifix which creates a 5 meter spawn kill range instead of just 3, the real problem isn’t listed in the journal. The real problem is the Banshee DOES NOT use the sanity factor. The Banshee simply doesn’t care if the average sanity of the people in the building remains above 50% because, as listed, it attacks without reason. The Banshee will target a specific person in the group and proceed to attack whenever it chooses to. There is not direct weakness to this ghost, but one thing you can do to minimize the chance of hunts is to stick together. The findings you will need to identify the Banshee are EMF Lvl. 5, Fingerprints, and Freezing Temps.

Revenant (10/10)

In our number one spot, ladies and gentleman, is crowned as the Revenant. I am level 200 as of making this guide and this is the only ghost that still makes my lips quiver when i say its name. This ghost is undisputably, the hardest to identify, and the hardest to survive a hunt in the entire game. The Revenant is the ONLY ghost in Phasmophobia in which you CANNOT outrun. This means its weakness is hide and seek which doesn’t sound bad right. Wrong, the Revenant is so fast that unless you are lucky enough to be far away from where the ghost spawns to initiate a hunt, once you see it, it’s already too late. This ghost is so fast that it is still hard to find a hiding spot in time and shut the door fast enough to escape its grip. This means that if you are in the ghost room when it hunts, you are already dead. This isn’t even the worst part though. Revenants are known to be as shy as a shade previous to its hunting phases as it is extremely shy and drops very little hints. It’s only a matter of time until your group starts dropping like flies where you finally figure out your dealing with the King Ghost. Even with the most experienced players, this ghost will show no mercy and will not hesitate. Due to this the Revenant serves as #1 in this tier list. The evidences needed to identify a Revenant are EMF Lvl. 5, Fingerprints, and Ghost Writing.
