Nexus Mod Manager – Installation
I would highly recommend installing
New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE) [nvse.silverlock.org]
NVSE is now required to run most of the mods out there for Fallout:NV so its worth downloading.
*Note: Using a mod that requires NVSE and not having NVSE installed can cause your game to crash while loading into the game it self. Also check on the mods page to see if any NVSE plugins are required as some mods now require special NVSE plugins to function properly.
Simpy download and extract the loose files into your Fallout: New Vegas Main folder.
Files to move:
src (folder) nvse_1_4.dll nvse_1_4ng.dll nvse_editor_1_4.dll nvse_loader.exe nvse_readme.txt nvse_steam_loader.dll nvse_whatnew.txt
Directory:
E:GamesSteamSteamAppscommonfallout new vegas
Where ever you have steam installed too. use the nvse_loader.exe to launch your Fallout: New Vegas.
How to Download & Install Mods
0.) Download & Install The Nexus Mod Manager (NMM)[www.nexusmods.com] from the www.nexusmods.com website the program is Safe and Free.
While you are downloading and installing the NMM go to the website and create a free account for later.
(Sign In is required for fast & easy downloads later)
1.) After you have installed Nexus Mod Manager click the shortcut on your desktop to run the program. The first time you run NMM the program will automaticly scan for your games (Dont worry this is safe & normal).
SImply click the “X” for the games you dont own next to the games directory path and click the “Tick” icon next to the games directory for the games you own when it finishes scanning.
*Note: If you wish to speed up this you can alternatively click the “X” on all the games and then browse to the games your self via the “…” browse feature.
2.) After the scan has finished select the game you wish to mod.
3.) Keep NMM open in the background and go to the www.nexusmods.com website and find a mod you wish to download and select the “Download NMM” option this will automaticly start downloading the mod though NMM it self. Make sure you have signed into the website or the “Download (NMM)” will not be displayed.
*Note: Make sure to also download any mod compatibility patches for any mods you may be using. But avoid installing them unless you have problems launching your game with mods enabled. Compatibility patches can cause alot of problems if used with out the mods required.
4.) After you have clicked the “Download NMM”. If you go to your NMM that you left running in the background it should show you downloading the mod you selected via the website. Like below
*Note: Keep in mind you may need to click twice on the website for NMM to start downloading your mod.
*Note: That some mods will not have a “Download (NMM)” option! These mods will require you to download manualy via the “Download (Manual)” and then need manualy adding to NMM using the add new mod icon on NMM. Simply click Add new mod on NMM and browse to where you downloaded the mod too, select the file and click ok.
5.) Now you have downloaded the mods you want, Lets get them installed for Fallout: New Vegas! First select and hightlight the mod you wish to install from the list of mods and click on the install button on the top left.
While installing your mods you can see what NMM is installing and what mods are in the queue to be installed.
Ones NMM has finished installing your mod and theres no prompts that apear. Then congratulation on modding your first game using the NMM.
Nexus Mod Manager – Errors & Popups
Some mods you install may come with install options like “Project Nevada” does which will ask you what part of the mod you wish to install. This is where you have to take charge and choose what you want to install. Most of the time the default options should show you what is recommend to install. for instance “Project Nevada” is recommending me to install all 4 modules as all 4 where ticked when installing this mod. in the below picture.
Other prompts such as below should give a recommendation on what to do.
However there are some prompts that dont give you any recommendation, like these prompts which you will have to choose between overrighting a file or not.
Most of the time this happens due to two mods using the same files. An example would be: Mod 1 is using the same file as mod 2. This can cause some mods to mess up and not work as intended. If you get this issue make sure to keep a note of this for the future, incase your game doesnt launch or CTD’s this could be one of the causes to why. The above prompt you need to choose your self depending on what mod or mods you are installing and have installed. For instance if i have a Texture pack installed and try to install another texture pack ontop it would ask me the above to overright the textures from the first texture pack and i would have to choose yes or no. Theres no easy solution to this prompt but general mod knowledge. Try Overright if the game doesnt work uninstall and try again.

Performance & Utility Programs
*Notice*
I take no responsibility for any damage caused, By use of these programs.
New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE) [nvse.silverlock.org] NVSE, Is required to run most mods there is for Fallout:NV. This program allows mods to run advanced scripting for Fallout:NV with less of an impact on your system.
NMM – Nexus Mod Manager [www.nexusmods.com] Used to Download/Install/Uninstall mods from the
Nexus.com game portals. Recommended to any one who’s looking to install mods.
Fallout New Vegas 4GB[www.nexusmods.com] This file is a must. This allows Fallout: New Vegas to use more then 2GB of memory. *Requires Manual Install* Basic Install: 1.) Download the latest Mod from the link above. 2.) Locate the Downloaded File, “Right Click”, “Extract to 4GBFNV” 3.) Move the folder to a more desired location. (“4GBFNV”) *I have mine inside my Game Folder within Steam. 4.) Enter the “4GBFNV” Folder and “Right Click” on “fnv4gb.exe” and select “Copy”. 5.) Go to your desktop, “Right Click” and then “Past Shortcut” 6.) “Right Click” on the shortcut you just made of “fnv4gb.exe” and rename it to “Fallout: New Vegas 4GB”. 7.) Now use the “Fallout: New Vegas 4GB” shortcut to launch your game. Big thanks to Yummychickenblue, for keeping me updated with the new version.
New Vegas Stutter Remover [www.nexusmods.com] Attempts to remove the micro stutters from the game. Seems to work for me. *Note: This file requires “New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE)” and is a .dll file type. Recommend you read the website link before installing.
NVAC – New Vegas Anti Crash[www.nexusmods.com] Attempts to stop your game crashing and does a great job. *Note: This file requires “New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE)” and is a .dll file type. Recommend you read the website link before installing.
New Vegas Configator [www.nexusmods.com] One of the best tools I’ve found & used. This tool allows you to edit options you would other wise not be able to edit via the options menu in-game via the config file that stores your graphics options & basic game data. Used to increase graphics or to increase FPS drastically. Turn Shadows fully off. Lower Shadow/Reflection Resolutions and many more.
Problem Solving – CTD & Crashes
How to solve CTD and game loading crashes:
Next time theres a sale on Fallout:NV i would highly suggest you buy all the DLC’s for this game as most of them are required in most mods now and not having the DLC will cause you so much problems when modding Fallout:NV. Owning all of the DLC will reduce your over all mod compatibility and in turn decrease the crashing.
0.) Install the latest version “New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE)[nvse.silverlock.org]” As most mods require this to function properly.
*Note: Using a mod that requires NVSE and not having NVSE installed can cause your game to crash while loading into the game it self. Also check on the mods page to see if any NVSE plugins are required as some mods now require special NVSE plugins to function properly.
1.) Download & Install the mods you want to use. While installing make your own judgement on if you should overright files or not. This can also cause crashing so remember what mods are asking to overright. (Yes to mod) NOT yes to one/all files.
– – – Try loading the game. If the game runs fine then you can skip the rest. – – –
2.) Ensure that you have Installed “UIO – User Interface Organizer[www.nexusmods.com]“
(Fixes a lot of my CTD related to the UI & HUD)
– – – Try loading the game. If the game runs fine then you can skip the rest. – – –
3.) Nexus Mod Manager -> Tools Icon (top left) -> Automaticly Sort Plugins
– – – Try loading the game. If the game runs fine then you can skip the rest. – – –
4.) Step “1.)” Uninstall the mods you choose to overright files with.
– – – Try loading the game. If the game runs fine then you can skip the rest. – – –
5.) Last ditch effort. Uninstall the mods you think are causing the crashing 1 by 1 till you find the mod thats causing the problems, Starting by the mods that have asked to overright other mod files. When you find the mod causing the problems go back and re-install your mods you disabled. If the issue starts again then you know one of the mods you have just re-installed is also causing issues.
Heres a list of mods that have caused me problems in the past:
*Keep in mind these mods have caused me issues in the past, However they may not be the cause of your problem.
Mosly Mod DLC compatibility Patches Electro-City Relighting the Wastland Nevada Skies – Weather Effects Underground Hideout Powered Power Armor CaliberX Advanced Recon Thermal Nightvision Glowing Ghouls FO OK DYNAVISION 3 DALCO Junk-O-Matic NV Mission Mojave – Ultimate Edition Yukichigai Unofficial Patch – YUP Inventory Assistant – iAssist Flashlight NVSE NVInteriors Project
The list could go on, However i think these are enough to pain an image of what mods could be causing the most issues. Most issues are mainly compatibility & DLC issues, NVSE heavy mods.
Game Load – Load Order Error – Fix:
Recently been getting a few issues with an error on loading Fallout: New Vegas related to the load order. It seems to be linked to a new mod I’ve recently tried, However after uninstalling all my mods im still getting the load-order error. How i fixed this was to Verify your game via Steam -> Steam Library -> Fallout: New Vegas -> Right Click -> Properties -> Verify Game Cache. After finishing the download DO NOT launch your game with any mods enabled. Disable all your mods (Via Data or NMM, *Don’t need to uninstall them) make sure you keep Fallout:New Vegas & your DLC enabled in the Load-order! Then launch your game WITH the original .exe file (Do NOT launch with Fallout:NV 4G or the NVSE launcher) I used Steam to launch Fallout. After you do this let the game load up to the main screen, If the game loads fine then re-enable your mods and continue playing as usual using your usual launcher. If it continues giving you the error i got, Verify your cache again, and try again. After doing this it tend to fix it for me.
My Load-Order
This part of the guide can be skipped this is just an example for users asking help on loadorders.
This is my working load order for my current Fallout: New Vegas game. As you see i use alot of mods and yet i barely crash.
This load order may contain mods not shown in this guide and is purly to provide a visual sight into how i have my loadorder setup.

Visual – User Interface
Unified HUD Project – uHUD [www.nexusmods.com] When using multiple mods that change the in game HUD a lot of problems start to appear. This mod helps solve most HUD related problems. Re-install this mod every time you install any form of UI mod. Would highly advice switching to “UIO – User Interface Organizer” however this mod still works.
Darnified UI v4[forums.bethsoft.com] Possibility the best UI mod out there to date. However the install is a little more difficult as it requires you to edit config files for the UI to work correctly. Due to this i wouldn’t recommend this mod to any one that doesn’t know how to edit the files required.
MTUI [www.nexusmods.com] My second best UI i would recommend. That can be installed with the Nexus Mod Manager and needs no advanced edits.
Visual – Heads-up Display
One HUD – oHUD [www.nexusmods.com] An all in one HUD. Contains 3 HUD mods. Links below incase you wish to use one specific mod. Dont install iHud, aHud, pHUD. While oHUD is installed else your game will crash.

Yams Pinup Parade[www.nexusmods.com] Adds a lot of posters to the wasteland making it feel more alive.
HQ Dust Storm FX[www.nexusmods.com] Hi-Res re-texture for the dust storms. May have a negative effect on performance.
Re-textures – Weapons
Weapon Animation Replacers FOMOD[www.nexusmods.com] Replaced weapon animations. Make sure you read the mod page on how to install this mod. Don’t download directly from the website to NMM.

DYNAVISION 3[www.nexusmods.com] All in one visual package. Contains 3 visual mods. Links below incase you wish to use one specific mod. Dont install IMAGINATOR, CINEMATECH, Directors Chair. While DYNAVISION 3 is installed else your game will crash.
The IMAGINATOR – Visual Control Device [www.nexusmods.com] Allows you to controll your ingame Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Light Output, Depth-of-Field, Focus, Motion Blur. Making the game look completely different.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Gameplay – Core
Project Nevada [www.nexusmods.com] Project Nevada revamps most of Fallout: New Vegas. Dynamic Crosshair, Bullet Time, Sprinting, Grenade Hot-keys, Variable Zooms, Helmet Visor Overlays, Enhanced Stealth, Enhanced Vision, Explosive Entry, Inventory Sorters, Chargeable Weapons, Player Implants (Cyberware), Full Game Re-balance, New Weapons & Armor & many more.

More Realistic Aiming [www.nexusmods.com] Adds weapons sway to your weapons depending on your condition of your character.
JIP Selective-Fire [www.nexusmods.com] With this mod your able to make Automatic weapons be Single Shot or Burst fire. With increased benefits with doing so.
JIP Fast-Travel Anywhere with Random Encounters [www.nexusmods.com] Don’t get this mod wrong, Its not Fast Traveling as you know it. You can actually move to any where you want. Not specific map markers. However you do get random encounters, that can get you killed.
The Weapon Mod Menu [www.nexusmods.com] Allows you to see what weapon mods are available for weapon with out having the mod it self. Also allows you to add & remove a weapon mod from a weapon. instead of the weapon mod being permanently attached to that weapon.
Ammo Ingredients as Loot [www.nexusmods.com] This mod should have made it into my Core Mods & Game-play section. However i just feel like its a cheat in some way due to the amount you get from looting. Rewards you for searching which i like i just wish it didn’t give as much as it does. Could be because i search every thing though..
Runner [www.nexusmods.com] A mod that allows you to run slightly increase your speed over time when your out doors. The speed is limited and its not game breaking. However I’m not 100% sure if i like this mod or not it feels a little bit cheaty but at the same time i kinda like it…
Gameplay – Bug Fixes
Mission Mojave – Ultimate Edition [www.nexusmods.com] This mod fixes over 27,000 bugs for Fallout: New Vegas such as flying objects, clipping, broken scripts, mission fixes and so much more.

Inventory Assistant – iAssist [www.nexusmods.com] Probability the best mod I use. With this mod you can pick up all items that are close to your cursor automatically by holding down your E Key instead of having to pick them up individually, However the best part of it is you can also use this mod to automatically store all your items of a specific kind into a container by holding down E at a container.
FPS Weapon Wheel [www.nexusmods.com] Allows the use of your mouse wheel to switch weapons.
Quicker Pip-Boy Light [www.nexusmods.com] Takes less time to enable your Pip-Boy Light. (Recommend the 4 Second Version)

The Storyteller Companion – Official Mod of The ShoddyCast [www.nexusmods.com] A must have companion. This companion comes with his own companion ED-NA who will over time interect with objects and the companion him self. The main companion is fully-voiced and provide him with Pre-War books and he’ll provide you with 1 out of 50 fallout lore videos inside the ingame it self!
Russell[www.nexusmods.com] The only true companion mod that fits Fallout New Vegas well from my view. This companion requires
The Someguy Series[www.nexusmods.com].
Re-texture – Companion
KORs Lily-NCR [www.nexusmods.com] Re-texture for Lily. Ever hate how Lily looks? yeah me too. This mod changers that.

Mobile Truck Base [www.nexusmods.com] Adds a mobile truck home. Has a little problem with companions getting in the way due to the size but other wise a great player home.
Mobile Vault [www.nexusmods.com] Working mobile vault truck.
Hidden Bunker[www.nexusmods.com] A small well themed bunker with every thing you would need to survive.
Content – New Items & Weapons
AG Supplementary Uniques [www.nexusmods.com] Adds a lot of Unique weapons to the wasteland if your like me and like adventuring this mod is for you. There’s nothing like getting rewarded for adventuring.

Unique Items and Collectibles[www.nexusmods.com] Adds over 100+ high quality collectible items to the wasteland. Unique Books, Whiskey, Poker Chips and many more. However the best part of this mod is that there’s special unique items that provide a benefits other then just looking cool such as the “Aladdin Lamp” which will gives you 50 Caps every time you pick it up. (can be repeated).
Signature Weapons[www.nexusmods.com] Select a gun to level up along side you! Hate how you have to change a gun you like out for a more higher power gun? This mod stops that as your chosen gun levels up the more you use it.

Content – New Lands & Extended Play
A World Of Pain [www.nexusmods.com] Largest new worlds content mod available for Fallout New Vegas. Adds: New – Buildings, Interiors, Bases, Caves, Sewers, Massive Linked complexes. New – Quests New – Tougher Enemies New – NPCs New – NPC Dialogue New – Vendors New – Weapons (Special Weapon’s M) New – Armor (Special Armor’s M) New – Music & Ambient Sounds DLC Support
The New Bison Steve Hotel and Lucky Casino[www.nexusmods.com] Run the Bison Steve in Prim! Probably the most balanced mod I’ve seen. Perfect for starting a new game with as you basically need to complete the main quest line to get this casino up and working. Adds well over 4+ hours into the game if not playing from fresh.
New Vagas Bounties I [www.nexusmods.com] Brilliant mod. Cant fault it at all. Adds a new building to the world where you can pick up Bounties to kill people for Caps. Whats impressive is this mods fully voiced by the author and works so well with the Fallout: New Vegas world. Now im sure your thinking that sounds a little over powered getting paid caps for killing some one. Don’t get me wrong here the bounties you go after are like min-boss’s to kill, there hard. and some times there in groups of four or more that jumping you after exiting an area.
IWS-Increased Wasteland Spawns [www.nexusmods.com] (Balanced) My favorite mod. Increases the spawns of creatures and NPCs. More things to kill is never bad.
Monster Mod[www.nexusmods.com] (Very Hard) Adds many new creatures to the game.
DFB – Random Encounters [www.nexusmods.com] (Balanced+) This mod is fairly balanced, it adds the o crap im going to die if i don’t fight this right. Randomly Encounter special mobs while traveling, Enclave, Creatures, Deathclaw all based on your level. So no Deathclaw or Encave face rolls at level one.. Dont forget to get the update for MCM support.
Fallout: New Vegas – Uncut (Cut Content)
Re-adds content that was originally cut from the game before release. Check the website linked for a better discripton on what these mods do.

Optional Mods
A lot of the mods in this section are not recommended and are purely for bug fixing and general stupidity on my behalf while playing.
Fallout NV Cheat Terminal Redux[www.nexusmods.com] Because using the console disables achievements. Using this avoids disabling achievements due to using the console and having to restart your game.
The Resurrector[www.nexusmods.com] Allows you to Resurrect dead NPC’s back to life. Yes this can be done by console. Using this avoids disabling achievements due to using the console and having to restart your game.
Toggler MCM [www.nexusmods.com] Allows you to enable / disable passive perks such as Bloody Mess, Animal Friend that can get annoying over time.
Flashlight NVSE[www.nexusmods.com] Adds Flashlights to the game: Head, Shoulder, Belt, Handheld.
Easy Unlocking – Easy Hacking – Guaranteed Pick Pocket [www.nexusmods.com] Kinda game breaking if you haven’t played Fallout: New Vegas before. Wouldn’t advice using unless you want a quick run though the game. Makes you able to force locks 100%, Guaranteed Pick Pocket and hacking computers only have one word to hack.
Missing Ammo Recipes [newvegas.nexusmods.com] Yet another mod that could have made it into my Core Mods & Game-play section. This mod allows you to craft all ammo types. Armor Piercing and Hollow Point rounds.. I still haven’t made my mind up about this mod. Especially with “Ammo Ingredients as Loot” installed.
Total Conversion
Tale of Two Wastelands (TTW)[taleoftwowastelands.com] Allows you to play Fallout 3 while still playing Fallout: New Vegas. Requires: Fallout 3 installed.

Community Suggested Mods
So, As a result of people asking why “x” mod isnt on this guide, I have decided to create a “Community Suggested Mods” to the guide, This section will be purly for mods that the community has recommended. Not my self.
If you have a mod that you would like to see on this list, Please comment with the name and link (if possible) to the mod. Please try to keep all links/downloads to the offical Nexus website, To prevent the linking of harmful files.
*Please note, Since these mods are Community choosen mods, I probley wont be able to provide any support for any of the mods in this section, Other then my general mod knowledge.
Milton and Hans[www.nexusmods.com] A radroach companion mod, With a twist! Suggested by: Quality Omelets
