Where to find, and how to use Chester.

Overview

This a guide on Chester from Don’t Starve.

Finding Chester

In a world, the eye bone, which looks like this, spawns Chester.

It can spawn naturally anywhere. Most often, it is found somewhat near a players spawn in the world. From personal expirience, it would usually spawn near a brick road.
Other times, I would find it in the swamp, or in a forest near spider dens. It may also spawn in a grassland, near beehives. But, as said before, it can spawn anywhere, so just check around your spawn.

If you can’t find it after hours of searching, and would like to spawn it yourself, you can do so.
Press ” ` ” to open the console. (Key located above Tab)
After, type this command: c_give(‘chester_eyebone’)
This gives you an eye bone.

Note: If you actually find the eye bone after doing this, another Chester won’t spawn from the natural one.

Chester’s Stats

Chester is a simple creature, he can’t fight, and only follows his eye bone. He is used to store items, baisicly a moble chest. Since he only follows the eye bone, you need to leave it at your base if you don’t want him to follow you. If you die while holding the bone, he will stay with your items.

• His walk speed is: 3
• His running speed is: 7
• His health is: 450

On death, he only drops his current inventory, and don’t worry if this happens, he will come back after 1 game day, to wherever the eye bone is.

Note: If Krampus steals the eye bone, and despawns, you cannot get it back naturally.

Upgrading Chester

If you grow tired of regular Chester, have no fear, you can upgrade him in two ways:

Snow Chester

Snow Chester has the same ammount of storage space as regular Chester (9), but keeps food from spoiling. He doesn’t gain any other special abilities, other than keeping food from spoiling as fast.

In order to get him, you need to put 9 blue gems in each slot of chesters inventory (1 in each). On a full moon he will transform.

Note: In RoG, snow Chester does not keep ice from “spoiling”.

Shadow Chester

Shadow Chester is exactly like regular Chester, except he has 3 more inventory slots, bringing the total up to 12. Other than this, he has no special abilities.

In order to get him, you need to do the exact same as snow Chester, but with 9 nightmare fuel.

Note: You can’t transform Chester again after making him shadow/snow. If he dies in a special form, he will respawn as regular Chester.

Other Things Worth Mentioning

If Chester has fireflys in him, he glows slightly.

Chester has a full name, as said by Wilson. His name is: Otto von Chesterfield, Esq.
It is possible to get two Chesters with console commands, just spawn a Chester, and then an Eye Bone. c_spawn(“chester”)
Chester can’t be healed with items, however, he does regen health at a fast pace, so don’t worry.
