Overview
This guide is here for people who need Lights Out tips for Don’t Starve. Most of the stuff doesn’t work in Don’t Starve Together, and really only works if you have the Reign of Giants DLC. I hope this guide helps.
Getting Started
Before you start you have to go to world settings and set the presets to lights out. After that make sure you pick a good character for lights out like:
Wilson: no downsides, and awesome beard that will help with the cold
Willow: that infinite duribity lighter is awesome early game, and sanity gain from fire
Wendy: her sanity makes life easier, and perament night means Abi does 40 damage always, which is awesome
Wickerbottom: her books are super OP
Webber: his sanity my be hard and spiders don’t come out at night, only dusk, but his beard and spider powers will help a lot
The characters you shouldn’t be are:
Woodie: when you go werebeaver and come back you will be in utter darkness, and you will die
Wes: unless you are really good, he has no upsides.
Ok when you start there should be a chest that has life supporting goods. Make some torches and get on your way because you want to get a lanturn ASAP. This video, NOT MADE BY ME, helped me A LOT.
Once you get a lanturn, build your base as you normally would, with a few exceptions.
Sanity
Ok lets be honest, sanity is a huge pain. But here are some easy ways to keep your sanity up
Pick Flowers: super simple pick flowers, and don’t worry you don’t need them because bees never come out
Making new things: every time you prototype something you get 15 sanity
Top Hat: looking dapper is a great way to beat that -5 sanity loss
Dapper Vest: if you get 8 hounds teeth and 6 silk you can stay sane easily
Cooked Cactus: If you live near a desert, cactus is the best
Taffy: Get that honey and make that taffy mmmmm
Jerky: Jerky is super awesome 25 hunger 15 sanity and 20 hp
Tamo: in winter make getting a Tamo your number 1 priority
Hibearnation Vest: The Hibearnation vest is OP, you need to kill Bearger though.
Tips and Tricks
Now, you may be thinking, its lights out that means No Pig King, no honey, no birds, no crops, no pigs, and no day light, well there are exploits to help with all of this.
1.) The Pig King: on a full moon got to the Pig King and relog. Once you do that he should be awake, and you can give him meat to your heart’s content.
2.) Honey: Bees never come out at night right… WRONG! Light their hive on fire, and catch all the bees that come out. Then make one bee box away from your base. Every two days that goes by without you seeing the bee box on your screen should make a honey appear in the box. If you pick that honey, more bees will come out. You can catch those bees, and make more bee boxes. Once you get maybe 20 bee boxes you get 40 honey in 4 days. Side Note: This works in non lights out worlds and in winter.
3.) Birds: Ok first you need to get 3 seeds. You can get seeds in lights out from farming tumble weeds, you’ll have to do it for a long time its only 1% chance to get seeds I think. When you get 3 seeds make a bird cage and a bird trap. Then place the bird trap on the ground and place the seeds in it. Either relog or walk 2 screens away and come back. BOOM! There is a bird in your trap which you will put in cage for the rest of time.
4.) Endless Light: This is soooooo simple its sad. To get a infinite lanturn chuck a lanturn on the ground, and relog. There you go endless lanturn.
5.) Full Moon Glitch: When it turns a full moon its a huge gasp of relief. But what would you do if I told you can get a perament full moon? I know crazy OP and you can get it. All you have to do is during a full moon relog. BAM! Thats it, you got a perament full moon, but if you relog, sleep, go in a cave, or have lighting strike the permament full moon will be gone.
6.) Crops: Crops only grow if there is light. So simple enough just use the infinite lanturn glitch and there you go crops.
7.) Pigs: To get pigs out of there house catch it on fire, pigs will always come out if there house is on fire, always. To get rid of the fire use a luxury fan, ice staff, or fling-o.
8.) Rabbits: To get rabbits all you have to do is dig up their hole. There is only limited number of rabbit holes.
9.) Desert: This isn’t a glitch but just a big tip. Live in or near a desert. There are many reasons to live in the desert, cactus (for sanity), tumble weeds (for junk), boulders (for rocks), hounds (for teeth and meat), and goats (for ice cream and meat).
10.) Cold: In lights out its perament night and that also means perament cold. It will always be colder than you think so in late autumn and early spring you have to wear winter gear or else you will freeze. An upside to this is in early and late summer you don’t overheat, but you still need fling-o’s because for some reason your crockpot is going to burst into flames at night.
Late Game
The longer you live the easier things get. Once you get tamos, bee boxes, and a good base things get super easy.
Anyway I hope this guide helped with all your lights out questions. If you have any questions be sure to ask in the comments below, I will try to answer them as soon as I can.
