HOW-TO GET THE HABITAT BUILDER (STANDARD)

To get the Habitat Builder the correct and standard way without using cheats, you will need to complete the first couple of hours worth of content. Don’t read ahead if you just want to complete all parts of the story without being spoiled!

After you go and find Al-An and he infiltrates your body, you will be required to send a sample of your DNA in a rocket up to the satellite using a BioScanner. Once you’ve accomplished this and they give you the a-okay from the satellite that you tested fine. You’ll need to wait a short time, but eventually you’ll get some more dialogue and have a supply drop sent down to you. Inside of the supply drop will be the Habitat Builder you’ve been looking to find!

If you’re having trouble locating the supply drop, it’s over near the creepvines in the shallows near your base.

Lore Only Section

Everything below this section is lore pertaining to the game. This section contains no pointers.

Characters

Robin Goodall

The protagonist of Below Zero.

Robin is a zoologist and xeno-linguist, and part of a research team sent to Planet 4546B to investigate the planet from a research outpost called The Vesper that sits in geosynchronous orbit high above the planet. Robin’s sister, Sam Goodall works on board the Vesper and is Robin’s main contact to the Vesper.

Appearance

Robin Goodall is a relatively tall woman, around 5’8″ – 5’9″ (174cm) with a slender build, narrow shoulders, a narrow nose, dark skin and brown eyes. Robin’s hair is dark brown and worn tied back in a long ponytail. A blue-dyed streak is present on the left side of her hair, continuing into the ponytail.

Sam Goodall

– Samantha Goodall, more commonly referred to as Sam, is a main character in Subnautica: Below Zero. She works on the Vesper and is the primary source of contact to the protagonist, Robin Goodall, who is also her sister.

Jo Jeffreys

Jo Jeffreys is a colleague of Robin Goodall, having lived in the same base as her. At the beginning of the game, Jeffreys appears to have gone missing and Sam Goodall communicates with Robin by asking her to find Jeffreys.

Research Base Zero

Research Base Zero is the primary Seabase utilized by the ground research crew of the Vesper . It serves as the home of Robin Goodall , and as such, it is where the story begins.

Research Base Zero is a large installation composed of both standard Seabase parts, as well as specialized parts made only for the base. These specialized parts include rectangular rooms similar to, but much larger than the Moonpool, as well as a series of stairs used to reach ground level. Multipurpose Rooms are used to create the bedrooms of each crew member.

The story begins inside Research Base Zero with Robin waking up to the sound of their alarm clock going off, signaling the start of their work day. The story will direct the player to Alien Research Site Zero , and upon returning, will be faced with an avalanche as a result of violent weather. The base will be overtaken by snow, and will no longer be accessible for the remainder of the game.

Vesper

Vesper Station is an installation that will be present in Subnautica: Below Zero. It will orbit Planet 4546B to serve as a base for research personnel, including Robin Goodall and her sister, Sam Goodall.

While aboard the Vesper, Sam will provide assistance through dialogue with Robin as well as occasionally dropping Supply Crates for Robin to utilize.

The Almanac

The Almanac is a name given by Alterra to a species of highly advanced and ancient space-faring beings that arrived on Planet 4546B approximately one thousand years ago, searching for a cure for the Kharaa Bacterium. Most information surrounding them is currently unknown. Though a living member who goes by the name Al-An will be present in Below Zero.

Biology

Prior to being uploaded to Data Hubs, members of the Almanac were non-bipedal (whether this refers to a quadrupedal mode of movement or another kind of movement is yet to be seen) and were approximately 50% larger than the average human, putting them at around 9 feet tall by today’s figures. They are also seemingly able to transfer consciousness’ through multiple bodies without any ill effects. According to Al-An, his kind are able to see beyond the physical realm, but are not above it.

Almanacs were most likely composed of both organic and mechanical parts, given that they were infected with Kharaa, and the bacterium was “uploaded” to their core worlds. The term of “seed” used in their description could refer to an organic seed, or possibly one inside a computer. Al-An claims that “My kind navigates spacetime in conjunction with bio-mechanical vessels, altered and evolved over time to serve our needs”, which implies that the Almanac were biomechanical in nature and had actually augmented their species to suit their needs, with bodies being easily replaceable.

They are known to have had an extremely long lifespan, as evidenced in a data bank entry by the mention of a ninety-six year old Almanac being considered very young. The same individual was near 700 Earth-years old (born 1,708 Earth-years ago) when its body became infected after the Kharaa outbreak and the consciousness was stored in a data hub. It is unknown if this lifespan is naturally long, or augmented like Paul Torgal’s, who had expected to live to the age of 160 prior to crashing on 4546B.

Almanac Bases

Alien Bases are ancient structures that will be located around the Arctic Mega Biome in Subnautica: Below Zero. They were built by the Almanac approximately one thousand years prior to the events of Below Zero. Their purposes vary, and it is unknown if any of them are focused on the studying of Kharaa, similar to those found in The Crater .

Bases

Alien Research Site Zero will be found in a surface level mountain cave. Its purpose is currently unknown, although its upper section is capable of generating a shield for reasons unknown.

Sanctuary Zero is located in the Twisty Bridges . It serves as a resting place for the minds of Almanac, and is where Al-An’s core is located. It houses a consciousness transfer device.

The Fabricator Base’s location is currently unknown. It will contain a fabricator used to construct Al-An a new body.

Alien Research Site Zero

Alien Research Site Zero is an Alien Base is set to appear in Below Zero. What purpose it serves and why it was constructed is currently unknown.

The exterior is built similarly to that of the Primary Containment Facility in the Crater, as seen in the concept art.

During her search for Jo Jeffreys, Robin Goodall will stop by Alien Research Site Zero, only to be denied access by an unknown voice, who threatens her. Taken aback by the facility knowing her name, Robin reports to her sister, Sam Goodall, who warns her that an electrical storm is coming, but lightning confirms that it’s already arrived. On her way out of the cave, the electrical storm renders the cave unstable, and an avalanche blocks the cave entrance and destroys the Research Base Zero.

Lower Section – Alien Research Site Zero

The lower section of Alien Research Site Zero is accessed via an ice cave tunnel. At the beginning of the story, the interior is inaccessible as Al-An restricts access to the inside. At a later point in the story, presumably after Al-An has been given a physical form, the force field will be shut off, granting access. Not much is known about the contents of the base, except for a single elevator leading to the upper section of the base.

Upper Section – Shield Base

The upper section of Alien Research Site Zero is accessible only by the lower level’s elevator. This section is known as the Shield Base, and is the endgame location of Subnautica: Below Zero. The Shield Base appears capable of generating a shield, but for what purpose is still unknown. It can be assumed that the shield will be activated in the later parts of the game. Al-An will be found here after the construction of his body.

In-development footage shows that a large amount of the base is jutting out of the mountain, forming what appears to be a balcony. The exterior of the upper section is far larger than that of the lower section, and it is possible that it may be visible from the surface. According to developer notes, the upper section features an Alien Arch leading to an unknown location, as well as a terminal that ends the game.

Sanctuary Zero

Sanctuary Zero is an Alien Base that is located in the Twisty Bridges. It functions as a resting place for the core that houses Al-An’s mind, and is where he broadcasts messages from. Its name suggests that it shares a similar purpose to that of the Sanctuaries from Subnautica, however it is currently unknown if any other Almanac are stored here besides Al-An.

Sanctuary Zero is a location that Robin Goodall will visit while searching for her lost colleague, Jo Jeffreys. Having been warned by a broadcast at Alien Research Site Zero, Robin shifts her focus on finding out more about the Almanac. Her investigation will lead her towards the location of Sanctuary Zero.

Core Pedestal

Within Sanctuary Zero is the pedestal that holds Al-An’s core. Al-An converses with Robin, telling her that she is not allowed to leave the Sanctuary. Al-An activates the Sanctuary’s force fields, and Robin must remove the core from its pedestal in order to escape.

Consciousness Transfer Device

It is revealed that control over the facility is currently assigned to Al-An, who functions as the Sanctuary’s administrator. Robin uncovers a machine within the facility that allows her to transfer Al-An’s consciousness from the core to Robin. With Robin acting as a new storage vessel for Al-An’s mind, she is able to turn off the force fields and leave the facility.

Sector Zero

Sector Zero is the area where Subnautica: Below Zero takes place. This mega biome is sub-divided into smaller biomes, such as the Arctic Spires, Sparse Arctic, and Twisty Bridges. It is one of the two known mega-biomes on Planet 4546B, the other being the Crater. Sector Zero sits at the planet’s equator, although experiences an unusual climate that leaves it covered with ice and cold temperatures overall.

The Sector Zero landmass can be seen in the ending scene of Subnautica, as the Neptune Escape Rocket orbits Planet 4546B.

Biomes within Sector Zero

Subnautica: Below Zero will feature a similar style of map as Subnautica, wherein the map is separated into individual biomes, each with their own unique set of landscapes, fauna, and flora. Below is a chart of confirmed biomes that will be featured.
