Overview
Welcome back Captain! Ever wanted your empire (server) to actually welcome you back whenever you log-in to your galaxy? This guide will teach you how to set a specific message of the day for your server!
Finding the Right File
C:Users[your username]AppDataRoamingAvoriongalaxies[your galaxy name]
The first thing we want to do is find the “server.ini” file. There are 2 ways to achieve this:
The Lazy Way:
1. Press “Windows key+R”
2. In the window that popped up, type in “%appdata%”
3. Find the “Avorion” folder in that mess
4. Open the “galaxies” folder, then the name of the galaxy you want to have the startup message
5. Open up the “server.ini” file (if you don’t see the .ini then the file should just be named “server” and will open up a text document
The Manual Way:
1. Navigate your way to your Windows (C:) Drive
2. Open the “Users” folder
3. Open the folder which has your username
4. Open the “Appdata” folder (if you don’t see the folder then this[support.microsoft.com] guide will tell you how to show hidden folders and files)
5. Open the “Roaming” folder
6. Find the “Avorion” folder
7. Open up the “galaxies” folder, then the name of the galaxy you want to have the startup message
8. Open the “server.ini” file (if you don’t see the .ini then the file should just be named “server” and will open up a text document)
Editing the ini file
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS BACKUP FILES BEFORE EDITING THEM!!!
Final steps!
Now that you have your server.ini file open, you’re going to want to find the line that says “motd=”
This image shows where to find it and what it looks like (if opened with notepad):
Then simply type in whatever message you wish to appear in game, like so:
Now every time you open your galaxy, your message should appear on log-in 😀
