Rising World General Beginners Guide – as of update 0.9

Overview

This is a general guide for new Rising World players. Hopefully this will help people get started and live through the first few days in game.

Intro

Hi everyone! This is my first guide, I hope you find it helpful.
With the new update being released on November 30th as a beta and on December 5th as the stable update I’ve been on the official forums and Steam forums a lot, and I noticed that the guides are older and/or for specific things. So, I decided that it would fun to write an updated general guide for new players. I will use information from the official forums and things that I have learned myself while playing the game.
I will try to keep this updated as time passes and more new features are released. If you have any questions please let me know and I will try to answer them as best I can.
*Note – This guide is based on the single-player, survival mode of Rising World AND assumes that you know how to create a player and start a new world.*

Item Lists

Animals – Timid animals will run from you, passive animals will let you walk up to them, retaliatory animals will attack you if you attack them first & aggressive animals will attack you on site, as soon as you are within their aggro range. I have also listed the items each animal drops.
Timid: Deer (pelt), Fox (pelt), Rabbit, Penguin, Rat
Passive: Cow (meat & hide), Chicken (meat), Pig (meat), Sheep (pelt when killed, wool when sheared), Giraffe (hide)
Retaliatory: Elephant (hide), Goat (hide), Moose (antlers & hide) & Rhinoceros (hide)
Aggressive: Bear (hide), Tiger (hide), Boar (hide), Polar Bear (hide) & Jaguar (hide)

Trees – To get saplings from fruit trees, do NOT pick the fruit before chopping down the tree.
Fruit: Apple, Cherry & Lemon
Wood: Spruce, Maple, Acacia, Birch, Poplar, Willow, Lodgepole Pine

Crops – Renewable means that you can pick the crop and it will grow again. Non-renewable means that you need to harvest the whole plant and replant the seedling to grow it more.
Renewable: Cotton, Hemp, Tomato, Corn, Chilli Peppers, Broccoli, Strawberry
Non-renewable: Watermelon, Sugar Beets, Carrot, Lettuce, Potato

Crafting Stations – Primitive Furnace, Workbench, Blockbench, Sawbench, Anvil, Furnace, Big Furnace, Modern Workbench, Loom, Spinning Wheel, Tanning Rack, Paper Press & Grinder

Tools – Pickaxe (iron), axe (iron), Wooden Rake, Rake (iron), Hoe, Rolling Pin, Sickle, Scythe, Sledgehammer, Hunting Knife, pickaxe (steel), axe (steel), Ore Detector, Mining Drill

Weapons – Stone Axe, Morningstar, Battleaxe, Sword, Crossbow, Arrows, Musket, Musket Ball, Repeating Rifle, Ammo

Ore – Aluminum, Coal, Iron, Copper, Tungsten, Silver, Gold, Mithril, Sulfur

Biomes – Desert, Grassland, Savannah, Polar, Taiga & Tundra

*Warning*

Until you have a good weapon stay away from the heavy forest, since that is where you will find most of the bears and boars. Tigers and jaguars can commonly be found in the savannah & desert. Polar bears, obviously, are found in the polar biome. I’m not saying that the animals will only be found in those biomes, just that there are more of them in those biomes. I have found that animals seem to wander along the edges of their biome, so you might run into one sooner than you think you will.

Daily Priorities

First day

When you spawn into a new world you will now have only one item, the stone axe. This is new as of the 0.9 update. The stone axe can break trees & stone as well as function as a weapon. The first thing you want to do is find a place to set up camp. A good spot will have drinkable water (not on a beach, seawater is not drinkable), trees to chop down and a mountain close by for stone. It helps if the ground is level, but you can always move to someplace with smoother terrain later. It can be helpful to set up camp on a bit of a hill, so that you can see what is near you.
As you are walking around looking for a good campsite you should pick food as you find it. You will not be able to harvest any seedlings yet, that requires the sickle, but in the beginning it is best to pick up any food that you find. Since you don’t have a way to carry water yet, it’s a good idea to stop at the ponds you find and drink.
You will also want to chop down trees and gather up the logs. You can replant the saplings right away so that you don’t wipe out all the trees in any one area. You will want to craft the shelter right away so that you have someplace to sleep. Don’t craft the primitive furnace until you have found someplace that you plan to stay for awhile. If you see any ore deposits on the surface take the time to stop and grab them.

Second day

If you didn’t find a campsite that you really like on the first day, pick up your shelter by holding down the F key. Once you have that back in your inventory, you can keep looking for a good long-term campsite. Keep gathering food and wood as you go and any ore that you come across. You should be able to find a good long-term campsite by the end of the second day, depending on what you are looking for.
Once you find a place that you think will make a good long term site, place your shelter and gather supplies to make the following: Primitive Furnace & Workbench. Once you have the needed supplies craft and place both items. You can spend the rest of the second day gathering supplies or exploring the area near your campsite.

Third day

I am assuming that you have found a good site by the end of the second day. You should also have a furnace & workbench in place. What you do on the third day really depends on how many supplies you have. If you are low on supplies, send the day gathering. If you have a lot of supplies, you can spend the day crafting. Now is also a good time to think about building a real home. You will also need to think about the type of construction you want to use. In Rising World you have two options:

Plank & Beam

or blocks

Fourth day
By now you should have a good idea of where you want to build and enough supplies to start building. Pick your building style and start creating your dream house! Now that you know how to get safely settled and off to a good start, you can decide how you want to play Rising World. You can do anything you can imagine in this game, thats what makes it so great! Will you build a:

Massive base?

Underground bunker?
I’ve never built one, but there are some really cool photos and videos out there.

Small cabin in the woods?

Or travel the land, foraging as you go?

The choice is yours!

Handy Tricks

[F2] – If you have the option marked in the settings pushing F2 will let you fly. This is a handy way to escape from things that want to eat you.
[L] – Pushing L will turn on a bright light. Handy if you are wandering around in the dark without any torches. Right now this works in both Survival and Creative mode, latter on Red51 has said that he plans to have only available in Creative mode.
[~(Tilde Key)] – This opens the console so that you can switch between Survival and Creative modes and enter various commands.
[RCtrl] – Freezes a woodenplank, beam, log or triangle in place. Use arrow keys & PageUp, PageDown to move it.
When placing ore in a furnace, hold and drag instead of clicking the mouse to place each ore. When removing ingots, hold [F] and drag instead of clicking the mouse on each ingot.

Fueling the Primitive Furnace – There is an opening to put the fuel into. Hold the lumber (or coal) and move your mouse slowing until you see that the lumber is in the furnace. See the screenshot below.
