Overview

A guide for getting a good mate in WQ3!

Finding potential mates

Once you kill two elk, the game will allow you to find a mate. You can do this by:
1: Walking around and finding dispersal wolves
2: Finding a wolf in a pack

Lets talk about the first option for now. Dispersal wolves are randomly generated, unlike pack wolves. All of them are randomly generated when you start the game. They will have completely random stats, looks, and most importantly, personalities. You can attract dispersal wolves by howling, then sleeping ( for me sleeping near a pack’s territory works better for attracting dispersal wolves ). When you wake up, there is a likely chance that you will wake up and see dispersal wolves. You can also find them hunting elk, sometimes, so, even if your not that hungry, follow a elk herd’s scent, and see if you can find a wolf that is hunting a elk.

Now, lets talk about option two. Pack wolves are not randomly generated, and each have their own personalities and looks that are not randomly generated. You can find these wolves by going into their territory, and sleeping in there or just walking around. However, this option is quite risky, it is likely you will run into hostile pack wolves, but your still free to do so.

Pack Wolf Personalities

Here I will list all of the Pack Wolves personalities. Keep in mind, all of this is just speculation, there is no way to truly find out a wolf’s personality.

Wapiti Pack
Wapiti 1M: In my experience, pretty bold, a little more loner, Seems a little more energetic.

Junction Butte Pack
( Adding the Junctions later, check back soon! )

Lamar Canyon Pack
Lamar 1M: Bold, and the others I’m not quite sure, maybe something in between
Lamar 1F: Bold, social, energetic
Lamar 2M: Bold, social, and pretty energetic I believe
Lamar 2F: Bold & Lazy. A bit more loner-ish?
Lamar 3M: Bold and loner, cant figure out lazy or energetic, but seems balanced
Lamar 3F: Bold, social, lazy
Lamar 4M: Loner and energetic, slightly more bold I think
Lamar 4F: Slightly bold, social, energetic

Meeting Period

Once you find a group of dispersal wolves or pack wolves, it should tell you if you want to meet them. If you select “yes”, you should see usually a few wolves ( 1-3, in my experience ) gathered around you. A few of them might be laying down, this might be a sign of laziness. Do a few emotes and see how each of them react. Bolder wolves may walk towards you, a lazy wolf will do a emote, and lay down again, social wolves will respond back with a emote like play bow, roll, ect. Eventually, you will find a wolf that seems worth investigating, and once that happens, you will move on to the next part.

The Trial Period

The trial period is a very important part of finding a good mate. Do a few emotes at your trial mate, and then find something to hunt, the stronger things you hunt, the faster your mate will bond with you. For example, killing a bull moose will get your more affinity then killing a elk calf. Try going for bigger things, like a cow elk, or even a bull elk, or maybe even a moose?
Testing your mate on a bison might sound like a bad idea, but it might be useful. If you are unsure if your trial mate is bold or cautious, test them on a bison. Find the nearest bison herd, and began snarling, growling, and charging at a single bison. Be careful not to get hit. Eventually, try and go for a bite. See how your mate reacts. A bold mate will try and join you, meanwhile a cautious mate most likely will not.

If you think your trial mate is worthy of becoming your mate, then hunt some more with them, until your affinity is all the way up, then, you will get a pop-up, asking you if you wanna have this wolf as your mate.
