Chests of Oblivion – How do they work?

As with creatures, the exact loot that you will find in any dungeon is for the most part randomly generated, based upon your level. Your level will affect the amount of gold you find and the quality of the equipment you find (including whether or not it is magical).
Some loot is non-random. Most of the items that you find out in the open are non-random. Non-random loot is not regenerated.

– Time –
The contents of most chests in dungeons will be refilled after three days (game time), so it is possible to re-visit a dungeon and collect more goodies. The chest contents will be regenerated if you do not enter that area for 73-74 hours

– For interior areas, you must leave the zone (i.e., go through a door that triggers the display of a load screen) in order for the containers to respawn.
– For exterior areas, you must travel at least a couple cells away. If you re-enter the area before three days are over, the clock gets reset. (This can be useful if you want to use respawning containers for storage: as long as you make sure to enter the area within three days, items you place in containers will not disappear).

– Boss Chests –
Many dungeons contain a boss chest, typically somewhere near the boss/end. These boss chests will contain significantly better loot than normal chests; most of the best finds in the game come from boss chests! However, even boss chests have random contents, so it is impossible to predict which ones will yield that ultimate item; occasionally you will open one and only find 5 gold pieces and some mundane equipment.

– Chance –
The chance of finding good equipment is not influenced by high values of Luck. If you are looking for specific loot (eg. a certain ring or that last skill book), find a small dungeon and save just outside the front door, since chests are filled when you enter their zone. Run straight to the boss chest – if you find what you want, save immediately and fight your way out, otherwise reload and keep trying.

Note – I have only once found Daedra one time. I have found Glass a few times. Mostly you will find Elven, Mithril and Orcish ( At a high level). I have herd and seen others finding Enchanted Glass/ Daedra weapons/ armour on YouTube and other places so don’t give up.

– What can i find? –
– Alchemy Equipment: any piece of Alchemy Equipment.
– Gold: a large, levelled amount of gold (up to 745 gold possible at level 30). There is often an additional 1-10 gold that is separately added to the chest.
– Magic Armor: randomly generated enchanted armour
– Magic Ring: randomly generated enchanted jewelry
– Magic Weapon: randomly generated enchanted weapons
– Plain Armor: unenchanted armor (listed at Armor).
– Plain Weapon: unenchanted weapon
– Potion: standard potions and poisons (listed at Potions). In most cases, any potion or poison from Potions can be present.
– Scroll: randomly generated scrolls
– Skill Book: random Skill Book.
– Soul Gems: soul gems, both empty and filled.
– Staff: randomly generated staves

Note; this includes non boss chests too. (with less success rate).

Chests and Loot in the Wilderness

I will update this section with videos if enough people want it, but for now…

Key
NC – not confirmed

– At the end of a dock north of the Ayleid ruin Vilverin, just across from the Imperial City sewers exit, sits an open crate. Inside is a jewelry box along with gold or a silver nugget.
Way up in the Jeralls, east of Bruma is a nameless campsite. In a chest nearby, you will find gold and three pieces of clutter.

– Southeast of Bravil is a burned house. This ruin contains a crate of cutter and some gold, along with a small chance of a lockpick, arrows, repair hammers, etc.

– On the West side of the Upper Niben, southwest of the Ayleid ruin Culotte, you will find a disused stock/storage area. You will likely find a chest like the one above.

– At the abandoned campsite west of the Ayleid ruin Anutwyll, which is north of Bravil, you will find a chest with one or two restorative potions.

– In a burned building on the Red Ring Road east-southeast of Memorial Cave are two chests, a sack of gold, and a barrel of ingredients.

– At “Fort Coldcorn”, in the Great Forest, Northwest of the Imperial City and East of Chorrol, on the upper level (no access, you must leap-frog your way up to the level) you’ll find a sword on the ground (DO NOT TOUCH THIS) and a chest!
Inside the chest is a clue … just follow the point of the affore-mentioned sword to locate the actual treasure chest!
Good probability of a Tome in the actual chest … I found one!

– Behind the upper portion of a waterfall Southwest of the Ayleid ruin called “Ondo” (which is on the North-South stretch of the “Silverfish River”), is another chest!

– At the northwest end of the bridge that stretches northwest across Lake Rumare between City Island and the mainland, a coffin contains a three pieces of jewelry along with water walking and healing potions. (NC)

Dungeon Looting Basics

Check the How chests work part of the guide before reading these quick tips.

– Most effective way to get good loot from chests is to save outside the Dungeon. Go in, run to boss level chest, if loot is good fight your way out. (Obviously not an option for low level players).
– The most effective way to farm money is by killing enemy’s in dungeons and taking there armour/Weapon. (the accseption being if the player has a low luck level and does not often get enchanted weapons/armour, chests would be better).

Notes
– Randomly generated enemies will respawn after three days. Enemies respawn at the same time as loot.
– The Chance of you getting a enchanted weapon drop from a enemy depends on your luck attribute.

Key – Chance of finding an item from Chest.
High Chance – 75-100%
Medium Chance – 25-50%
Low Chance – 5-15%

Conjurer Dungeons

Conjurers – Great for scrolls, Gold, Potions and Soul Gems.
Conjurers are mage-type NPCs. They do not wear armor, but instead have robes or occasionally magically-enchanted pieces of clothing. When cornered, they will pull out their random weapon (sometimes a magical staff, otherwise daggers seem to be favored by conjurers). Otherwise, they generally summon level-dependent Daedra. Most conjurers will be carrying some potions (especially at higher levels). Conjurer lairs are the best places to look for alchemy equipment.

Marauder Dungeons

Marauders
Marauders are fighter-type NPCs, similar to bandits except wearing heavy armor and are armed with blades. Marauders are much rarer than bandits. Varieties of Marauders include Marauder Archer and Marauder Battlemage.

Mondter Dungeons

Monsters – This category encompasses all of the mythical types of animals encountered in Cyrodiil: imps, trolls, will-o-the-wisps, spriggans, minotaurs, land dreughs, and ogres.
Killing monsters will yield various rare alchemy ingredients. Other loot is generally limited, because they tend to carry at most a few gold pieces or a lockpick. However, containers in monster dungeons contain some of the best loot in the game; see Monster Dungeons for details.

Necromancer/ Undead Dungeons

Necromancers – are the second mage-type category of NPCs. As with conjurers, they do not wear armor (preferring robes or enchanted clothing), tend to have a staff or mace as weapon, and typically carry potions. Necromancer lairs tend to also be populated by undead. Necromancer lairs are another possible source of alchemy equipment:

Undead – There are three main categories of undead in the game: skeletons (who drop bonemeal), zombies (who drop mort flesh), and ghosts (who drop ectoplasm). At high levels, skeletons are represented by liches and ghosts are represented by wraiths.
Note – It is important to note that ghosts can be destroyed if, and only if, they are attacked with a spell, an enchanted weapon, or a silver or daedric weapon. See Undead Dungeons for details.

Vampire Dungeons

Vampiresn – are NPCs with randomly selected classes, picking from the full range of default classes. Each vampire will be equipped in a manner appropriate for their class, which can lead to some good loot. In addition, dead vampires yield Vampire Dust.

Early Poison Apple access. and Loot.

Poison apples and Lots of LOOT! – this video shows you how to access a secret base that contains poison apples (try putting them in a NPCs inventory and waiting until they eat one). It also shows you where to get several levelled swords and bow with arrows.

[Using Poisoned Apples[/b] – See my other guide on how to use them to reek HAVOC!Here

NOTES;
– The stash spawns every 3 days, you can sell each apple for 300 gold each. repeat to get lots of gold.
– If you consume a poisoned apple, you will take damage at 10 points per second indefinitely.
Since the ten poisoned apples in Fort Farragut respawn every three days and each is worth 300 gold, selling the apples is a good way to make gold.
