Possible fix for startup crashing

Overview

Three easy steps for not confirmed success (It worked for me):

Step 1

1. Go to install folder C:Program Files (x86)SteamSteamAppscommonoblivion and open Oblivion_default.ini

Step 2

edit the following lines to 0:
bUse Joystick=0
bDSoundHWAcceleration=0
bMusicEnabled=0
bSoundEnabled=0

Step 3

Delete oblivion.ini from “C:UsersusernameDocumentsMy Gamesoblivion”

Final

Now you can probably start Oblivion without any problems and change your settings.
