Overview
This guide will tell you how to get every achievement providing a short but accurate description and some images to show you where to get them and to help you locate all the collectibles. It’s possible to get all of the achievements in a single playthrough, except for Speedrunner for obvious reasons. You’ll find more infos in the Introduction section. This is my first full achievement guide and English is not my first language, so any suggestion and/or correction is more than welcome.
Introduction
To get 24 of the 25 achievements in a single playthrough you’ll need to keep in mind what follow.
- This game has 3 endings and an achievement for each of them. To get the first two, you’ll just need to save at the very last part of the game and load that save after the credits. For the third ending, you’ll have to die in order to trigger an event that will change the game creating an autosave that will overwrite your previous save. Since there’s an achievement for completing the game without dying, the third will be the last ending you’ll get.
- There are 5 difficulty settings: Peaceful, Easy, Normal, Hard, and Ironman. My advice is to play the game on Easy or Normal, depending on your skills, to avoid death and get the related achievement, and then to play it on Peaceful for the speedrun, because the enemies will ignore you on that difficulty. Don’t play the 0 deaths playthrough on Peaceful because you won’t get the achievement.
That said, let’s get started!
Audiophile/Bibliophile
Obtain every audiolog
Obtain every page
Audiologs and pages are the collectibles in this game. There are a total of 14 audiologs and 30 pages and they will help you understand what happened to the Xanadu. Some of the pages are not actual pages but magazines, sticky notes and even a picture.
I made a map where I marked their locations. You’ll find images of their exact location at the bottom of the guide.
Balls of Steel
Beat the game without dying
Self explanatory.
You can die if you smoke too many cigarettes (I’m not joking) or if you’re killed by the enemies. There are four types of enemies:
- Pillbots. They are like Daleks and they shoot lasers. You can aim at their red parts for a 1-hit kill or you can sneak behind them to switch them off.
- Flybots. They are flying little pests that can electrocute you. They are pretty agile but shouldn’t be much of a threat.
- Turrets. Classic turret behaviour, except that they also have an energy shield. You can sneak behind them, deactivate their shield and then destroy them.
- Recreational Droids. I don’t know what kind of “recreation” they offer, but their first purpose is to hug you. They will explode while doing so and kill you.
Watch out for cameras because, if they see you, they’ll call for back up and don’t shoot at those electric boxes on the wall when you’re near them or you’ll hurt yourself.
There is also a way to make things easier. Once you’ve found the sticky note in the Recreation area, go back to the Engineering Officer room and use that code on the locked door. You’ll find a terminal where you can deactivate robots, turrets and cameras.
Sign him up for the Knicks!
Score a basketball goal
In the Crew’s Quarter there’s an area called Recreation where you’ll find 3 lockers. Open the one in the middle, pick up the basketball and score taking the position shown below.
Silver Shower
Destroy a robot with the showers
You’ll find the showers in the Crew’s Quarters, inside the Recreation area.
There are a lot of enemies in this area but you won’t need any of them, so get rid of them but DON’T destroy the cleaners. One of them will eventually go to the showers and commit suicide.
The King of the Dead
Become king of the zombies
You’ll find an arcade game in the Crew’s Quarters, inside the Recreation area.
Survive 5 waves of zombies and beat the boss in the sixth, then pick up his crown to become King of the zombies!
Smashed
Get drunk
In the dining hall of the Crew’s Quarters there’s a table with some beers on it. Drink 6 of them in a row.
Ruined Breakfast
Sabotage your breakfast
In the Crew’s Quarters there’s a kitchen where you’ll find a toaster and a burner with a pot full of water on it. Use the toaster 2 or 3 times and activate the burner to boil all the water.
Trumpet-Major
Experience an attack of flatulence
In the rear of the Kitchen in Crew’s Quarters, you’ll find a storage room and a fridge. Go inside the storage room and eat what you find there.
Old School
Unlock the bonus mini-games
Once you’ve found the sticky note in the Recreation area, go back to the Engineering Officer and use those numbers on the locked door. You’ll find a note inside with a code that will sound familiar to old school gamers. Save the game, go to the Main Menu and press those buttons to unlock the mini-games.
Xanadu Book Club
Find and read “The Unusual Death of Governor Li”
Go into Zaho’s Office and shoot at the wall behind her desk to find a secret passage. Crawl inside and read the book you find at the end of it.
Impulse 101
Obtain every weapon
The first one in on a table in Shuttle Bay and it’s pretty impossible to miss.
For the second one, you need to crawl inside a vent located at the end of the the corridor that leads to Crew’s Quarters. Once inside, keep going until you fall down, then take the right path and follow it until the end.
The third one is inside the locked closet in Zaho’s Office. The code to open it can be obtained from a sticky note that you can find in her room. If you can’t decipher it, take a look at the last section of this guide.
Killing Spree
Destroy 3 bots in 2 seconds or less
I’ve got this achievement in Medical Bay.
Deactivate turrets and cameras using the terminal inside the locked room in Engineer Office and get the rifle from Zaho’s Office. Save the game, then go to Medical Bay where you’ll find two turrets and a camera. Turn off the turrets’ shields and wreak havoc with the rifle.
You can also get it in the Offices area, where there are two turrets and a pillbot patrolling the corridor. Deactivate the pillbot when it reaches the turrets, turn off their shields, go behind one of them and use the rifle.
Scanners
Scan the Xanadu with the Survey Bot
Once you reach the area with blood on the ground, go into the Survey room. Look for the only working console and choose “Perform survey”. Let the survey bot do its work and you’ll get the achievement after its return.
Murderer
Destroy every cleaner bot
Cleaner bots are those harmless little blue bots and they are pretty easy to spot. There are 6 of them: 1 in Shuttle Bay, 1 in Engineering, 2 in Crew’s Quarters, 1 in Offices and 1 in the Research/Survey area.
Homer’s Odyssey
Eat every donut
There are 4 pink boxes with donuts inside and they can be found in the relax room inside Recreation, in the dining hall of the Crew’s Quarters and in the Laboratory.
Please put your seats in the upright position
Put every toilet seat up
There are three bathrooms on the Xanadu, with 3 toilets in each of them. One is in Engineering, one in Crew’s Quarters and one near the Storage. There are also 2 toilets in the Brig for a total of 8. Remember to flip up their SEAT and not only their lid.
Oh, and wait for your turn.
No New Mail
Read every e-mail
There are six terminals where you can read e-mails. There is one of them in each crew member’s room and in each crew member’s office.
Mission Successful
Fly the Xanadu back to Earth
You’ll get this achievement for what I consider the “normal ending”.
Fix the engine, restore the power, repair the cryogenic pod, find and place all three data drives, then save the game.
Go to the Bridge’s main console, turn the autopilot ON and the orbital clamps OFF, set the Earth coordinates found on the page you’ve got at the beginning of the game, then click on GO. Reach the Medical Bay, interact with the pod you’ve repaired and enjoy the ending.
Note: If you didn’t die, you’ll unlock the Balls of Steel achievement too.
Sacrifice
Fly the Xanadu into a star
You’ll get this achievement for what I consider the “good ending”.
Once you’ve got the Mission Successful achievement, load your last save. If you’ve collected all the pages, you should have noticed that some of them comes from a book and that they have numbers written on them.
Put those numbers together following the pages order and you’ll get new coordinates.
Go to the Bridge’s main console, turn the autopilot ON and the orbital clamps OFF, set those coordinates, then click on GO. Reach the Medical Bay, interact with the pod you’ve repaired and enjoy the ending.
If you are too lazy to gather the coordinates, take a look at the last section of this guide.
The Other Half
Join the crew of the Xanadu
You’ll get this achievement for what I consider the “bad ending”.
Now that you’ve got the other two endings, you can focus on this one. First of all, you need to find 17 masks that are scattered on the Xanadu. I made a map where I marked their locations. You’ll find images of their exact location at the bottom of the guide.
You can’t touch them nor take them and they disappear when you go near them so, if a mask is not where it should be, it just means that you already found it without noticing. The only mask that won’t disappear is the one in Zaho’s room but you don’t have to worry about it.
Found them all? Good. Now it’s time to die. Don’t worry if you destroyed all the enemies, you can still kill yourself by getting the Surgeon General’s Warning and the Wasted achievements.
Keep dying until you trigger an event that will turn the game black and white. You’ll hear a music and a floating mask will appear in front of you. Follow it to the Laboratory, interact with the artefact
and enjoy the ending.
A bomb?
Get killed by the suicide droid
Let a recreational droid hug you and enjoy its explosive love.
Unintended Death
Get killed by the environment
Go in the Kitchen and turn on the four burners on the right. Turn left, jump on the cabinet, crouch and go cook your ass to death.
Surgeon General’s Warning
Smoke yourself to death
In the rear of the Kitchen there’s a storage room with a box full of cigarette packets. Spam the F button until you get the achievement.
Speedrunner
Beat the game in 10 minutes or less
This achievement is easily obtainable on you first try. I even had to backtrack a couple of times because I forgot one data drive and something else but I still got it.
It doesn’t work on Peaceful so set the difficulty on Easy, run instead of walking and follow these steps:
- Go to Engine Room and fix the engine
- Go to Engineering and take the fuse from the upper right drawer of the Engineering Officer desk
- Go to Auxiliary, place the fuse in the fuse box and restore the generators power
- Go to the Storage room in the same area and take the data driver on the table
- Go to Cornell Johns’ room in Crew’s Quarters and take the data driver on his desk
- Go to Cornell Johns’ office in Offices and take the data drive on the yellow cabinet
- Go to Medical bay, open the left panel of the left pod and take the coolant canister, then place it inside the right panel of the pod in the middle
- Go to Bridge and place the data drives into the nav system, then go to the main console
- Turn the autopilot ON and the orbital clamps OFF, insert 0356.3480.1147.3636 as coordinates and then click on GO.
- Reach the Medical Bay and interact with the pod in the middle

- Once you’ve unlocked all the endings, start a new game and go to Agnew’s room in Crew’s Quarters. You’ll find a new file in his computer with some commands written upside down. You can use them on a Laptop that you can now find inside the last room in Reaserch.
- There are three secret rooms on the Xanadu. You’ll hear a distinctive sound when you’ll be near their entrance and, in order to find it, you’ll need to shoot at the wall.
The first one is in Engineering, behind the Engineering Officer desk.
The second one is in Zaho’s office.
The third one is in Research, in the last room.
Dunno if there are more, but here is what I’ve found.
- If you look at the ceiling in Shuttle Bay, you’ll find a poster. I’ve no idea of what it could refers to though.
- If you look under the desk in Engineering Office you’ll find some writings. They could refer to Kublai Khan but I don’t know why.
- The Balls of Steel achievement could be a reference to the Big Brass Balls achievement from Bioshock 2, where you have to finish the game without dying.
- Inside the locker in Zaho’s room there’s a poster. The art belongs to Audrey Kavasaki and you can find the original in her gallery[www.audrey-kawasaki.com].
- Inside the locked closet in Zaho’s office you’ll find a box that’s a reference to Metal Gear Solid. Shoot at it for a second reference.
- If you use the command piss or pissfilter on the Laptop, you’ll get a Deus Ex: Human Revolution reference.
- The code to unlock the retro games is better known as Konami Code, a cheat code that appears in many Konami video games.
- The code to open the closed door in the Brig it’s a nod to Deus Ex where it was used to unlock a vault. It has showed up multiple times in a number of video games, including Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Bioshock, and the code itself is a reference to the book Fahrenheit 451.
- If you go to a vending machine and try to get an Orange, it will give you a Lemon-Lime instead.
It’s a reference to Gunther Hermann from Deus Ex.
