Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin Guide

100% Achievements: Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin for Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin

100% Achievements: Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin

Overview

How to get 12/12 achievements in this VR Psychonauts interlude!

Introduction

Welcome to Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, a game that was a PSVR exclusive but now suddenly is on PC! Yay! It’s an easy game to 100%, taking about 2-3 hours to do so if you choose to do everything in one playthrough.
7 of the 12 achievements are unmissable storyline-related achievements, 4 are random fun things to do throughout the game, and 1 is finishing a sliding puzzle in a minimal number of moves.
The hidden achievement is story-related, and you will get it near the end of the game. Be weary of reading the guide for it (it will have spoiler tags, don’t worry).
On a related note, look past the spoiler tags at your own risk as they’re there for a reason. They may give away puzzle solutions or plot points you might not want to know.
This guide is structured chronologically, so follow it this way.
You can do everything in one playthrough, and I would advise doing so.

After completing the game, there is a level select option. If you’d rather play through the game once and go back for the other achievements, you can do so easily this way, but the missable achievements won’t spoil anything really anyways.

This guide is NOT a walkthrough for the game, but a guide to get each of the achievements. For hints for each section, check out this guide: [link]

Fire in the Hole!

Fire in the Hole!
Help Coach out… with fire

In the beginning of the game, Coach Oleander will request for toilet paper. It’s located within the lower cabinet across from the squirrel. Just pick it up with telekinesis and light it on fire with pyrokinesis (hold down the grip button on the right VIVE controller, or B button on an Oculus Touch controller). After lighting it, quickly hand it to the Coach, or else it’ll burn up into ashes. Then, listen as he yells in agony.

Where in the World?

Where in the World?
Locate the Rhombus of Ruin

This is the first story progression related achievement.
It will pop after you complete the first area of the game (the room with Truman Zanotto) and wake back up in the ship after you find the Psylirium and hear Truman speak.

Tune In

Tune In
Listen to all of the radio stations on the Bus

Scroll to the following radio stations in the Bus area via the arrows (little one makes it go up 0.2, big one makes it go up 1.0):
90.5 (5th Paul song)
94.9 (whale sounds)
98.1 (Sasha Nein speaking, lines from later in the game at the UFO section)
101.1 (piano music from Stacking, another Double Fine game)
105.7 (Milla’s dance party music; part of puzzle, needed to progress)
Upon playing all of them, the achievement will pop.

Caught on the Tracks

Caught on the Tracks
Rescue Milla

This is another unmissable story-related achievement.
Shortly after playing the 105.7 radio station, which is music from the Milla’s dance party of the original game in the bus section of the game, this achievement will pop.

Bombs Away

Bombs Away
Rescue Lili

A story-related achievement as well.
This will pop as soon as you fix the music box on the bomber.

Checkmate

Checkmate
Solve the sliding box puzzle on the Train in 20 moves or less

I would make a guide of screenshots, but that’s a bit of a pain to do and it’d be easier to just use a video for it.
A video already exists for this achievement, here it is:

Brütal

Brütal
Create the spiked leather jacket on the UFO

In the UFO, there’s a puzzle in which you must make a record needle from the cow and hay bale in the machine that splits andd combines items. Split both the cow and hay bale into their respective parts, and put the cow’s horn and needle from the hay stack in. Combine these two items and a spiked jacket will be made, granting you the Brütal achievement.

This is in reference to Brütal Legend, another game by Double Fine in which the protagonist wears a spiked jacket.

If you’re looking for a hint on how to break the forcefield that traps the cow and hay bale, here’s one: look at the colorful tubes to the left of where you came in
This puzzle was the one that had me stumped more than any other.

We Come in Peace

We Come in Peace
Rescue Sasha

Yet another storyline achievement.
This one will pop after you start playing the music from the golden disk with the Victrola and Sasha starts seeing the “aliens” (his delusion like Milla and Lili had) as the fish guard men, what they really are.

5th Paul

5th Paul
Play the song melody on the keyboard in the Cruise Ship

This one might be a little harder if you don’t know a thing about pianos, but I’ll try to make it as clear as I can.
Once you get inside of the cruise ship with Coach Oleander, take control of the pianist on the stage.
You’ll need to play the tune that’s playing in the background (was also on the radio earlier in the game, see Tune In)
Here’s the quick version if you know piano keys: A1, C2, D2, F1, G1, G1, A1, A1
(numbers as in the when they appear; for example A1 would mean the first A that appears on this keyboard, while A2 would mean the second one)
For those who don’t know any piano key names, just follow along with the numbers:
No, the position at which you hit the keys does not matter. Just hit the white keys in order of the red numbers from 1 to 8 (some keys have multiple numbers, meaning that that key is hit several times)
The speed at which you play does not matter as far as I know.

Drag Me Down Down Down

Drag Me Down Down Down
Rescue Coach

From here, every other achievement is unmissable, and you will get along the story progression.
This achievement will pop as soon as you give Coach Oleander the mermaid tail.

Rub a Dub Dub Dub

Rub a Dub Dub Dub
Save Loboto

This is the hidden achievement. View the description at your own risk, as it is a bit of a spoiler.
This is also a story progression related achievement.
You will obtain it upon going back to the ship with the golden compass after viewing Dr. Loboto’s memory vault.

Boyfriend?

Boyfriend?
Escape the Rhombus

This is the final achievement you will get if you’re doing an all achievements playthrough, and triggers when the credits start rolling at the end of the game.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this game is pretty fun! For $20 it might be worth waiting for a price drop simply due to the game’s short length, but know that it’s an absolute blast moving objects with telekinesis using your head.
If you had any trouble with any of the achievements, or think I should add something, please comment below! Feedback is highly appreciated 😀
