RollerCoaster Tycoon® 2: Triple Thrill Pack Guide

1920x1080, windowed mode, steam overlay, custom window colors and more for RollerCoaster Tycoon 2: Triple Thrill Pack

1920×1080, windowed mode, steam overlay, custom window colors and more

Overview

This guide will help you set up rct2 in windowed mode, change the game resolution to 1920x1080p and more 🙂

Setting up

This guide is for those who wants to play rct2 in 1920x1080p and for those who wants to play rct2 in windowed mode. It’s surprisingly easy to set up and will only take about a minute of your time. 🙂

step 1. Go to openrct2.org/downloads and download the OpenRCT2 Launcher

step 2. Once the download is completed, run and install the program, all you have to do is specify the install-directory of rct2. It’s usually under
C:Program (x86)SteamsteamappscommonRoller Coaster Tycoon 2 Tripple Thrill Pack Unless you’ve installed the game elsewhere

step 3. Use the launcher to play the game with all the extra features. If you want to play the vanilla game then open rct2.exe from your steam games folder. Same directory as above 🙂

From there on you should be able to play the game as you normaly would. Since OpenRCT2 uses the sourcecode from rct2 to run itself, all of your saved games, scenarios, saved rollercoasters and so on will work perfectly fine 😀

1920x1080p / windowed mode

The game should run, by default, at 1920x1080p after OpenRCT2s installation. If not, just open up the options menu and change the resolution back to whichever resolution fits your screen 🙂

You’ve got three screen modes to choose from. Fullscreen, Fullscreen (desktop) and Windowed. Fullscreen does exactly what you think it does, the screen is covered by the game. (the best way to enjoy rct) Fullscreen (desktop) is a bit special though as it runs the game as if it was in windowed mode but it removes the borders from the game so that it seems like the game is running in fullscreen. (Basically) Windowed mode is just windowed mode, you know what it does.

Custom UI Colors 😀

First open up the options menu and select Controls and Interface. Then select Edit Themes and select either roller coaster tycoon 1 or 2 as a theme to base your theme around. Then select Duplicate. You do this to avoid changing the original look of the game (very obvious, I know, but I feel like I needed to point it out just in case) From there on you just go from tab to tab changing the looks of the game until you’re satisfied!

Why was this tab included in the tutorial? no idea, but it’s cool that you can do that and I know some people don’t like the “old” look of games from 2010 and back. (Because 2010 is old for some reason) This just let’s you change the colors to something more “modern”. 🙂

Keep in mind…

I just want to make it perfectly clear that OpenRCT2 is still in early development and could be a little bit bugy. I’d suggest you report any bug you may find to the openrct2 team over at OpenRCT2 Forums [openrct2.org]. Just to keep the game bug free!

If you’ve got any questions, let me know! 😀
