50000 GP & From the Grave for Wizorb

50000 GP & From the Grave

Overview

A quick tip guide for achieving Filthy Rich (acquire 50000 GP) and From the Grave achievements in Wizorb. This isn’t a walkthrough, just a few pointers on the general way to do the achievements. I think this is pretty much the fastest way to do it.

Introduction

If you are doing “Filthy Rich”, I highly suggest you do this achievement:

  • After you have beaten the first playthrough on normal, in the same save file
  • After you have finished the Good Samaritan achievement and saved the four children
  • Only if you are extremely bored and need the 100% achievement completion for this game

Now, if you are sufficiently bored with your life, you can try to get all the achievements in this game. You’ll notice very soon that most of the achievements do take some fiddling around to do–except one in particular: “Filthy Rich”. This achievement requires you to accumulate 50000 GP, which is equivalent to scoring 50000 points and not spending them. If you’ve already played your first playthrough, you should already know the following information:

  • Each coin is worth 1 GP / each gem is worth 10 GP.
  • If you get all the items (including keys, hearts, and potions), you will get +25 GP “Hoarder” bonus after the level is over.
  • Completing a level perfectly grants +75 GP for both “Complete” and “Perfect” bonuses.
  • Completing a world grants +100 GP, and completing it perfectly grants an additional +1000 GP for “Immortal”
  • Completing a world without spending any GP grants +100 GP “Frugal” bonus
  • Defeating the final boss with a star on every level grants you +5000 GP, but we won’t be using this trick here because World 5 is fairly difficult.

You should also know that:

  • Touching the insta-death curse will–wait for it–insta-kill you. It appears as a fireball.
  • Touching a shrink curse while already shrunken will kill you as well. It appears as a magic circle.

Goals

Achieving Filthy Rich requires three main things: grabbing items, not dying, and, most importantly, perseverence.

Pick up every item
Again, since the goal is to get 50000 points without spending them, every item you pick up will go toward this goal. If you manage to get every item in the level, you will get more bonus gold. Simple enough.

Try not to spend money
Don’t waste your money. At the end of every world, you will be rewarded +100 GP “Frugal” if you do not spend any money on any of the levels in that world.

Don’t die
However, your main goal should be not dying. As in most games where dying is an option, it usually isn’t the best one. In this case, one death will set you back 1050 GP because you will lose both the “Perfect” bonus for that level and the “Immortal” bonus at the end of that world. This is important because getting the “Immortal” Bonus will make your journey a lot faster.

Finish quickly
The quicker you finish the World, the quicker you accrue the +1000 GP “Immortal” bonus. Bonus levels are okay, but they are generally a waste of time here.

YOU SHOULD GET 2800-3000 GP PER PLAYTHROUGH OF A WORLD USING THESE TIPS.

Playing World 3

In order to make this easier, I have found that a good offense is often better than defense in this game. That being said, I strongly suggest you do this achievement on World 3 — Mines.

This level features very easy configurations, two very useful powerups, and a boss that doesn’t spawn adds. Here are some notes about the levels in World 3.

  • Level 3-3 has the Multi-Orb powerup in the shop. This is a necessity.
  • Level 3-5 has an Instant Death curse in the left chest. Be careful.
  • Level 3-7 is the only semi-difficult one, but that is mostly up to you to not lose a ball. There is nothing particularly dangerous about this level except that the blocks are in a hard-to-reach place.
  • Level 3-8 in particular is a complete joke once you have the Amulet. You can easily use Alter (Telekinesis) to fly your ball into the opening and open the two chests. Then, all the blocks to the left are lined up so you can destroy them all with a single Amulet blow. This level takes me 20 seconds.
  • Level 3-12 is also a complete joke because there are no obstacles involved.
  • The boss has twelve hit points and turns to stone every time you hit him, except when he is charging an attack. He will only attack if your wand appears under his gaze. This should be quick.

Use the Amulet

All the other levels have the blocks arranged in such a way that you can eliminate about half of them using the Amulet. Use the Amulet if you are about to lose a life OR at the end of a level when all you have is a column of three normal-sized bricks in width left to destroy. This will make your life a lot easier.

If you do not have the Amulet, I highly suggest you get it. After you defeat the final boss (Dark Lord), you can play through each of the Worlds again and unlock a special door. You will know if the door is in the world because there is a special symbol on the floors of those rooms. There is one door per World, totalling to four doors. Defeat the mini-boss in each world to obtain the Amulet.

To use the Amulet, pause the game and press the corresponding button–this works ONCE PER LEVEL. It will unsummon your balls and send a ray two blocks in width from your wand. You can orient your wand so the beam actually hits three blocks in width.

___________

Curses

Do not be afraid of the Drain Magic curse. It appears as a purple bat and will drain the equivalent of one Magic Potion’s worth of magic (two fireballs). There are enough Potions to offset this, and they are never lethal.

Avoid the Shrink curse because it will make it easier for you to die. It will kill you if you get two in one level, so don’t do that.

Avoid the Instant Death curse. Just… don’t touch it.

___________

Powerups in World 3

Another nice part about World 3 is that it has both the Multi-Orb and Double Damage powerups. You can purchase these powerups in the shops located on levels 3, 6, 9, and 11.

Multi-Orb — Shop Level 3 and 6

  • Multi-Orb will make it three times harder for you to die, while also increasing your damage output threefold.
  • While using Multi-Orb, do not throw your initial launch at a flat surface. This will cause the balls to ricochet back toward you at a wide spread so you will probably lose one.
  • Learn where the balls will launch. With this powerup, you lose the ability to aim your shots. This makes it easier to predict where your launch will hit. Use this to your advantage.

Double Damage — Shop Level 9 and 11

  • World 3 is full of stone bricks that take two / three hits to demolish. Double Damage will help greatly with destroying them quicker.
  • Just get it.

Now, also notice that World 3 does have a Slow Time powerup as well. I tend to stray away from this one because it does slow down your grind. The slower the balls go, the more time you will spend playing this game. Only buy this if you do not think you are good enough to survive without it.

You do not need the Enlarge Wand powerup and you definitely do not want the Magnet. There are a lot of shrink curses in this world, so there’s no point in trying to keep the Enlarge powerup from World 2. The Magnet will only slow you down and / or annoy you.

___________

The Grind

If you are able to beat World 3 without a problem, you will get 2800-3000 GP per playthrough. Do not worry if you come a little short. The main goal is to finish the world as quickly as possible.

READ: 2800-3000 GP PER PLAYTHROUGH.

Just a summary:

Good things

  • Get Multi-Orb and Double Damage.
  • Shops are in 3-3, 3-6, 3-9, and 3-11.
  • Use the Amulet to save your life–and to finish the level if possible.
  • 3-8 and 3-12 are joke levels.
  • Don’t worry about the Drain Magic curse. There are a lot of them.

Bad things

  • Avoid Shrink and Instant Death curses.
  • Do not launch Multi-Orbs at flat surfaces.
  • Don’t die, especially on bonus levels.

From the Grave

What to know

It turns out World 3 is also pretty much the best level to do this achievement as well. If you play enough of the game, you’ll realize this too. This achievement requires that you complete a level after your wand is destroyed. You can get this done by eating an Instant Death curse, an attack from a boss, or two Shrink curses (while lacking the Enlarge powerup).

I think it is easiest to do this on World 3 because you have two chances to do it per playthrough, rather than just one with doing it on World 1.

If you are pretty ballsy, you can do this achievement at the same time you are doing “Filthy Rich”, but that will probably lose you the “Immortal” bonus that playthrough, as well as a “Frugal” bonus for at least one other playthrough.

___________

Level 3-5

This level has two chests in front of you: an Instant Death curse in the left and an Extra Life on the right. It also has an army of eye monsters sequestered behind some blocks and pots. The trick to doing “From the Grave” here is to leave the Instant Death curse in the box and one other block anywhere on the map. It might be helpful to use Slow Time here.

What you need to do is isolate one block in an easy to get area with at least two fireballs worth of power left. When that happens, open the Instant Death box and wait for it to descend a little. Shoot a fireball at the last block and quickly ram yourself into the curse. This will destroy your wand.

If you do it right, the fireball will hit the last block while your wand is destroyed, netting you the achievement. This requires some timing to do because the fireball moves faster than the curse.

Make sure you don’t lose the ball while doing this maneuver–and make sure you don’t accidentally cast the Fireball Infusion spell by left-clicking when the ball is near you.

___________

World 3 BOSS

Like any other boss level, you can get the achievement by killing the Gorgon Eye boss. Do this by getting him down to one life, then putting your wand in front of his eye. Doing this will provoke him to charge a laser attack. Right before it lands, hurl a fireball.

The Gorgon Eye also has the advantage of having the largest hitbox of any boss, so it makes it a lot easier to score the hit with the fireball.

Again, make sure you don’t lose the ball.

Warning: The boss death animation will give you enough time to regenerate a new wand if your ball(s) is / are lost afterward. This will lose you the “Immortal” bonus.
