Overview
Overview (1080p / 1440p / 4K).. what to expect from your system.. how to tweak settings..
Intro
Welcome.. to the possible solution of your problems.
Since there is a real lack of basic info regarding FPS-settings for modern Ubisoft games and most guides just address specific issues (besides being outdated), I made this Guide in hopes of saving the forums many threads about “new system still performs poorly” in games from 2017-2019 ^^
Goal of this Guide:
– rough Overview regarding Hardware-Requirements
– Tweaks/Settings to get stable 60fps
– links to other Guides that focus on special issues
The baseline for 1080p is Radeon RX 570:
1080p @ 45fps – veryHigh
1080p @ 50fps – High
-> ULTRA should be avoided unless you enjoy 30-40fps
*stable fps in native Preset with ALL features enabled
Overview – GFX card requirements
Now the big question: “What specs can your graphics card run smoothly ?”
This game has very similar Specs to newer Assassin´s Creed titles.. also UBIsoft games
-> barely any card runs those above 40fps in 4K ..lol
Let´s see.. AC:Origins (2017) / AC:Odyssey (2018) / AC:Valhalla (2020)
gtx1070/1660super______ 65 / 45 / 40 fps
rtx2080super/rtx3060ti___ 108 / 76 / 68 fps
gtx1070/1660super______ 50 / 35 / 33 fps
rtx2080super/rtx3060ti___ 81 / 56 / 55 fps
gtx1070/1660super______ 30 / 23 / 21 fps
rtx2080super/rtx3060ti___ 48 / 36 / 34 fps
rtx3070_____________ 60 / 45 / 40 fps
rtx3080_____________ 78 / 60 / 51 fps
rtx3090_____________ 88 / 69 / 54 fps
*stable fps in native ULTRA-Preset
Btw, GR:Wildlands is similar to AC:Origins in first row.. also the rtx2070 would be in between. Like it or not… even modern High-End-cards struggle ;(
For reference (and to verify my numbers) the Ubisoft Specs for Assassin´s Creed: Valhalla
General Settings (ingame)
This game (as most modern AAA-titles) benefits a lot from fast SSD/NVMe and good Multicore.. especially when 20-30 NPCs fight each other with you in the middle 😉
Also smooth gaming in Coop, If Host has decent Rig.. otherwise stuttering, temporary slideshow, etc..
If you want to tweak your FPS.. use the common procedures:
1. Enable FPS counter in Steam or Uplay (UbisoftConnect)
2. High Preset… shadows medium.. -> see what you get
3. If it works -> VeryHigh.. otherwise run -> Medium
4. work your way up from wherever you´re now
note:
Draw Distance is critical.. same for Details. Don´t max it, unless you have a real HighEnd-system.
Even those might run into issues once you enter big fights and use Vehicles
60fps vs ULTRA ??
Not sure where to set priority !? Let me say this..
1. generally, stable 60fps should be your goal for smooth gaming ..60fps High > 45fps ULTRA
2. if 60fps is out of reach, 50fps can be a solution.. but it depends on your gfx-card and monitor
3. the same accounts for Freesync/Gsync -feature @45-60fps
note: according to my testings.. 1080p @50fps High+ is very close to @60fps on stronger cards like gtx1660super / rtx2060, and most likely the go-to option on notebooks and older hardware without much loss.
Tweaks + Fixes
Some common problems can´t be solved INGAME, so check..
– 60fps “Vsync-on” setup usually requires no changes
– if you play above 60fps via Gsync(Nvidia) / Freesync(AMD)
– of course use recent gfx-drivers (not older than 1 year)
– borderless Window works better than Fullscreen (ResolutionScaling 1.0)
– make sure Process-priority is high
– Antivirus and Restrictions can also hamper your experience
@1080p VeryHigh : ~2.7GB VRAM
-> ULTRA Textures alone adds 1-1,7 GB VRAM.. Full ULTRA is 4.5GB VRAM (..which exceeds older cards´ capacity)
Example to counter FPS-Drops:
Let´s say your average stable fps in full_VeryHigh (without the 4 Ultra options) sits ~65.. then looking to the empty sky will get you 70-80fps, while Vehicles, Nps, etc will drop it to 60fps. Now in fights ~55fps is quite normal.
-> As a result, you should reduce your fps-Limit to 55fps ..or reduce settings
Wildlands (2017) vs Breakpoint (2019)
Those wondering how big the “difference” between Wildlands and Breakpoint is:
-> compare AC:Origins with AC:Valhalla ^^
That means, you can use this Guide to get a good idea of your Breakpoint-Performance
Ofc there are people that cheat themselves to get 55fps.. by modified Low/Medium Setting with crap like AF:2, Scaling, etc.. whereas High @30-40fps is way better in Breakpoint
