From the Title Screen, if you wish to obtain this content, simply click on, “Download Content” (which will have an exclamation point when you start up since they added DLC) and it will go to the Mark of the Ninja: DLC page. You can add it to your Steam inventory for $4.99 USD.

How does it Work? – Developer Commentary

Developer Commentary is – by default – turned ON. This means as you’re going through levels, you will see speech bubbles you can open up by pressing E or RMB.
Some speech bubbles require you to use L CTRL with the darts to access them.
If you’re speedrunning or working on other acheivements and don’t want to be distracted, you should go to the Options from the Pause Menu or Title screen and turn it off. At the Pause Menu, you may view ALL the available commentary.

How does it Work? – Dosan’s Tale

-Each playable level has the option to play, “Dosan’s Tale” in Normal Mode OR New Game Plus (One hit kills you and warps you to the last checkpoint).
Even though it’s available from every level, the only difference is whether you access Dosan’s Tale via Normal or New Game Plus.
Dosan’s tale outlines his life and early turmoil within the clan. The DLC gives you insight into the Original Mark of the Ninja storyline and controversial ending.

Earning these New Achievements

If you 100% the game before the DLC, awesome!
If not, it’s pretty easy to complete these tasks.
Here are specifics on how to complete the acheivements that were added with the DLC release.

Achievement: “Behind the Curtain”

Turn the Developer Commentary back on via the Options Pause menu or Title screen (If you turned it off previously).
Press E or RMB when you encounter a Speech bubble.
You can find them all throughout the main storyline. Press Pause and go to Commentary to read them all in one place. They’re sorted by Chapters and important checkpoints.
If you start with Chapter 1 – Ink and Dreams, you can find one right outside the doorway of the place where you wake up and start your journey.

Achievement: “Well I Think it’s Interesting”

-Find a history lesson speech bubble (hard). Need to have Developer Commentary turned on.

You must interact with this in-game, meaning you go to Oshi City – The Fall of the Hessian Tower. The speech bubble comes a checkpoint AFTER the cutscene with Corporal Kelly.

Achievement: “Days Long Past”

Complete Dosan’s Tale.

Tips:

  • Takedown any and all enemies possible. Even if they can be revived in a matter of seconds, it’ll buy you time to take down someone while they run towards a downed guard.
  • “Knocked out” enemies are infinitely downed until revived.
  • Tag one light fixture with dusk moths, and the moths will migrate to nearby lights as well. The effect lasts only a few seconds, so be ready to find a new hiding place as soon as the effect fades.
  • Make sure you throw darts at all lights possible while guards are alive to get points for distraction (“That wasn’t the wind..” As they would say 😉
  • Work toward the extra seals while you’re in the level
  • Use your ninja tools. You’ll earn one back at each checkpoint
  • Move knocked out bodies to avoid raising an alarm
  • Watch out for exploding, hanging blocks. You can disable them from a distance using your regular darts.
  • Look for artifacts on ledges and stuff to increase your score
  • Get the undetected bonus for extra points (Be hidden when a guard walks by).
  • Hang knocked out guards….or hide them.
    ———————————————————————
[*} Move bodies over spike pits and drop them in for indirect kills (600pts each). Handy since you have no sword
  • Terrify guards with bloack traps to increase your score. Friendly fire helps 😉
  • Chuck bodies you can’t drag into spike pits. You can do this by grabbing a body, then using the attack button (LMB)
  • Chuck knocked out guards off high-risers to get a slippery slope kill. Also, hanging them from a lamp post may be high enough off the ground that it’ll kill them when you cut the chain

Seals to earn:
1) Knockout an enemy after stunning them with moths (L CTRL with Dusk moths, then use Takedown)
2) Arm 2 fortress traps without being seen (Use hiding spots, planters..knock out guards and drag them away. Then hide.) Spike pits to the left, Exploding vases to the right, and falling grappling hook ledges above. Whichever combination you choose, choose wisely. You can rack up points quickly with indirect kills from the spike pit. However, you will have to run carefully in air vents. Exploding vases can be used to get rid of a pile of bodies (again, indirect kills are 600 points). Falling ledges are handy to distract, but still, you need live people to use it on.
3) Use a block trap to terrify a bandit (When you enter the building after the first checkpoint, head inside and jump on the ledge to the right. There’s a lever. Pick up a body with that trap and poke another guard with a dart. Once he sees that he’ll be terrified.
———–
Extra objectives: The Conservatory
-Terrify 5 bandits
-Knock out or kill 16 bandits
You can accomplish both of these even though the audio says otherwise

Achievement: “What Could have Been”

Objective: Complete an Original Mark of the Ninja Level using the mark of Wisdom.
First you must complete Dosan’s Tale to unlock his abilities in the weapon loadout/upgrade screen

  • While you’re at it, be sure to equip Dusk Moths and Toxic Fungus, so you can work towards those acheivements if you haven’t already.
  • Make use of Dosan’s Takedown ability. You can still get points for indirect kills, despite not having a sword.
  • Make use of the tips I mentioned in completing “Days Long Past.” You can use many of them in the orginal levels, too.

Achievement: “Cordyceps”

The Fungal Spores can be obtained less than halfway through Dosan’s Tale.
They’re right before the Fortress entrance.
You need to dispatch 2 guards at once using 1 infected body. How?
I suggest finding a place with 3 or more guards and tossing some fungus to one. As soon as the other guards RUN to check on him, they’ll be infected.
-Toss a spore and it’ll infect anyone who walks over it in a few seconds.
-Guards die instantly when infected and the infection lingers….And spores will generate every few seconds. They won’t hurt you. Ever.
If there’s an area with stairs and a guard on each level, they will travel between levels to assess threats such as darts thrown at them.
Even if guards are terrified, they may pace around and still inspect the infected body.

You can rack up hilarious combos with the fungus. I would definitely recommend using these in the original levels.

Achievement: “Couldn’t do that Before”

Disable a spotlight using moths.
Most of those won’t be in the, “Dosan’s Tale” level. You need to be in the maingame to find one.
You must find a light fixture guarded by a cage. Those are considered spotlights. They’re the ones you can’t destroy using darts.
Use L CTRL with dusk moths.
EDIT: you can find most of these in above-ground industrial areas, such as the first few levels staged in Europe. Breaching the Perimeter is a good place to start.

Achievement: “Back to Bed with You”

Explanation:
Takedown an enemy that was revived after being “knocked out.” Take down = Knock out NOT kill. And no, before you ask, NO ZOMBIES.
Dosan’s Tale provides an option to instantly incapacitate an opponent at the expense of them being revive-able. You also cannot carry a sword, or stop time by focusing when tagging targets with darts and such. in a sense, the Path of Wisdom is much like the Path of Silence. Because you are not as obviously combat-oriented as you could be. Takedown is LMB by default instead of where your sword usually is. For hand combat, you can still jump-kick and karate chop if you are detected before you execute a takedown.

Strategy: You can acheive this early in Dosan’s Tale. Just after the Dusk Moth upgrade, there is a checkpoint. Below is a guard on a ledge. There are lights between him and a guard to the left. Knock out the guard on the ledge and get the other guard’s attention. You can do this by distacting him and destroying lights, OR – even better – use some dusk moths to put out the lights, then poke the guard with a dart. It’ll make for an easy getaway on your part, and he’ll turn his flashlight’s power up enough to see the downed guard. Once he revives the guard and goes back to his post, come out of hiding. Takedown the guard on the ledge again.

Make sure not to move the body because he may wake up in a position you’re not ready to handle. There needs to be enough room between you and his headlamp to perform takedown without making a big fuss. Also, if you move the body on that ledge, It’ll likely fall down where you can’t get someone to revive him.
A guard that can be revived will be referred to as, “Someone is down!” in-game. Normally that’s when you get at alert about an alarm being raised. Instead, someone will just run over and bend down. Both guards will stand up, as before you did the takedown.
~Acheivement Earned! “Back to Bed with You”

Achievement: “The Humble Moth”

Stun an elite guard with the moth, then dispatch him

  • You obtain the Dusk Moth early in the Special Edition Level.
  • It looks like a package when you first pick it up.

You will need to kill the guard after stunning him, so the Path of Wisdom may not be the greatest choice. Having a sword and the moths on your inventory is a plus. However, you can kill guards with explosive vases, chucking them off high-risers, and dropping them in spike pits. If you can’t find most of these and you’re in the Path of Wisdom, consider hanging a guard, then cutting the chain. It might be a steep enough drop that you’ll kill them via “slippery slope.”
YOU ARE ABLE TO HANG “knocked out” guards.
You can find elite guards early-mid game. Ink and Dreams is not a good stage for this acheivement, nor is Breaching the Perimeter. Try the Hessian Castle – Inner Keep stage.
