Overview
Just like when making my Wendy guide, I noticed there was no guide for Wolfgang. However, if you want to learn more about this fearful body-builder, look no further. If you enjoy this guide check out my Wendey guide.
Wolfgang’s pros and cons
Wolfgang is basically the opposite of Wendy. Sanity drains 10% faster when near monsters or in the dark. This does not mean that when Wolfgang is in complete darkness he looses 10% more sanity. Even if it is dusk where there is no complete darkness Wolfgang will still loose 10% more sanity. Wolfgang will loose normal amounts of sanity around things that aren’t the dark or monsters e.g evil flowers. Wolfgang’s strength is based on how much hunger he has. His hunger and health can reach a maximum of 300.
When Wolfgang’s hunger is between 225 and 300 he will be in his “mighty form”. In this form, he will have a 25% speed boost. Also, he will loose hunger 1.5x to 3x faster than normal and he will do 1.25x to 2x more damage. Both his damage and hunger loss are based on how much hunger he has. For example, if wolfgang had 300 hunger, he would loose hunger 3x faster and deal 2x more damage. If Wolfgang had 299 hunger, he would loose hunger 2.98x faster and deal 1.99x more damage. For each hunger point The rate of hunger loss decreases by 0.02x and the damage decreases by 0.01x.
When wolfgang’s hunger is between 100 and 225 he will have no speed boost or damage boost but he does still loose hunger 1.5x faster.
When Wolfgang’s hunger is between 0 and 100 he will enter his “wimpy form”. In this form he will do 0.75x to 0.5x less damage. Also, he will have 90% of his regular speed and his hunger will decrease 1.5x to 1x faster than normal. If Wolfgang had 100 hunger, he would deal 0.75x the usual amount of damge and he would loose hunger 1.5x faster than normal. If he had 96 hunger, he would deal 0.74x less damage and he would loose hunger 1.48x faster than normal.
For every 4 hunger points, the rate of hunger loss decreases by 0.02x and the damage decreases by 0.01x. It is worth noting that once in one of these forms, to get to another Wolfgang would have to have 5 more or less hunger points than said to be in that form. For example, if Wolfgang was in his mighty form he would have to lower to 220 hunger points to revert back to normal form.
Autumn
Wolfgang is a very hard character to survive long amounts of time with. His faster loss of hunger makes him difficult to manage aswell as his easier sanity loss. Infact, he looses 115 hunger evrey day in his regular form. To balance this you’ll need to eat at least 9 or 10 small foods (carrots, berries and morsels) evrey day. This should be easy to obtain but is still a set back. Now that we’ve covered tips about Wolfgang himself, lets discuss basic survival. You will want to within the first three days, cut down 3 axes worth of trees and mine 4 pickaxes worth of rocks. Make sure you mine only gold rocks unless you cant find any more.
The next two days should be spent finding a suitable place for a base. This should be near a heard of beefalo, a forest, a grasslands and have at least four rabbit holes. Using the resources you obtained in days 1 to 3, make a science machine, a fire pit and some traps. Put the traps on the rabbit holes and upgrade from a science machine to an alchemy engine. In the next few days you should prepare for your first hound attack with a spear and a log suit. Also try to make a crockpot as this will be very useful playing as Wolfgang. 4 morsels will provide you with 48 hunger, but by putting those morsels in a crockpot, you can make meatballs. Meatballs give you 62.5 bunger. That’s a 14.5 hunger boost which while it may not seem like much, is crucial for a character like Wolfgang who looses hunger faster.
Once you’ve dealt with the hounds, make two shovels. Dig up 20 grass tufts, 20 saplings and 10 berry bushes. You’ll need 30 beefalo manure to fertalize the grass and bushes, but when you place them remember to leave a hole in the middle. There’s a reason for this so just trust me. Other than that kill some clockwork knights, make an ice box, kill a koalefant, kill some spiders, make a breezy vest for winter, kill some of your beefalo, make a beefalo hat (if you have a small amount of beefalo you’ll have to make a winter hat) and then make 1 spear, 1 log suit and 2 football helmets for the deerclops. Hopefully you discovered the glommers statue. If so, make the old bell. Also, make some drying racks and then make some jerky. Going into winter you should hopefully have 1 spare dish of meatballs, 8 jerky, 4 morsels, 15 grass and 15 twigs (maybe some berries). Now you’re prepared, lets go to winter.
Winter
Winter is going to be difficult for Wolfgang. You have a limited amount of food and Wolfgang looses hunger faster! So just remember to keep making meatballs. If your berry bush grew some berries, you can put some berries as a substitute for one morsel, when making meatballs
. Try searching around for a mac tusk camp. Kill them in whatever way you choose. Hopefully, you got a tusk. In the case you did, make a walking cane for extra speed. You can survive for a while now… until of course, the Deerclops comes.
When Wolfgang says “That sounded big!”, coupled with loud roars, means the Deerclops is coming. Upon hearing this the player should get a couple torches, flee their base, with their fighting equipment and 6 small jerky, try to find the deerclops and wait until morning. The combat methods are to kite him around and as soon as he has finsihed his attack, go in and hit him twice. After this retreat, let him do his attack and repeat. Make sure before you enter battle, you are in your mighty form with a hot thermal stone.
Now you should find a winter koalefant and obtain his trunk. Make a puffy vest for next winter. Now you just need to make some preperations. Make two umbrellas and an eyebrella for spring. Mine a lot of ice for making ice flingo-matics to save your stuff in summer. Keep the ice in your coolbox. Just survive until spring now because your good to go.
Spring
Spring’s main issue is the amount of rainfall that happens. Rain drains the palyers sanity and after the players wetness reaches 35, their tools become less useful and can fall out fo their hands. On some occasion it will rain frogs. They will be an annoyance, but once it’s over you get a large meal of frog legs.
Between days 2-4, the Moose/goose may spawn. It is important that you find and kill the Moose/goose within one day of it spawning otherwise it will lay an egg. If the egg hatches 5 moslings will spawn which, if you hit them, will run to the nest and another Moose/goose will spawn. If you want to get extra down feathers, you can allow the Moose/goose to lay an egg. Between each attack you can get 3 hits on the Moose/goose. The Moose/goose has a special attack where it honks and whatever item you’re holding drops from your hand.
Unlike other gaints, the Moose/goose has no sanity drain, which is good for Wolfgang. The Moose/goose will go to sleep with just one dart which the player can use along with the old bell. You can use the down feathers to make the weather pain or a luxury fan for summer.
Remember way back in the Autumn paragraph where I said to leave a hole in the middle of your grass, twigs and bushes? Well that was for summer preperation. Using the ice you mined last season, make an ice flingo-matic and place it in that hole. Consider making and endothermic fire a short walk away from your base. You’ll need another fligo-matic for your regular base. The reason to put the endothermic fire away from your base is because the flingo-matic puts out fires. If you can find some cacti, make a floral shirt and possibly a summer frest. Make a birds nest, capture a bird and then have him make lots of eggs (at least 14). Have them spoil and then make fourteen gunpowder. Use bird traps to get supplies for making at least 4 sleep darts. Now to wait for summer.
Summer
Summer is opposite to winter. Instead of fending off the bitter cold you try and stop the burning heat.
In summer some of your plants will need fertilizing, so have beefalo manure at the ready. The giant of the summer is possibly the hardest gaint to fight. The dragonfly attacks while still moving forward. This means that while running away, the Dragonfly can still damage you. This stops you from kiting him. The best way to kill him is to put him to sleep, then put at least 14 gunpowder next to him and light.
After he’s dead you will get his scales. This in no way aids you in a specific season but allows you to give certain things fire-proof capabilities. You can keep making gunpowder for the bearger if you want but other than that, this shoukd be it. You’re good to go with Wolfgang.
