A “Quick” Guide To Play As Eyes.

Overview

Just a “little” guide to teach you some of the more ideal mutations and playing styles as Eyes.

Overview of Eyes

Eyes is one of the first unlocked characters in Nuclear Throne. His passive ability allows him to see in the dark during levels like the Sewers, Caves, or Labs, which is useful, but not exactly the reason people like him. His activated ability allows him to draw enemies, chests, pickups, and rads toward you, and pushes enemy projectiles away from you. This ability can be bolstered a lot by certain mutations, but that’s for later.

Useful Mutations

Mutations are generally the upgrades of this game, if you aren’t familiar with the game. Eyes can be made much more powerful with the right upgrades, which are listed and described below:

Euphoria: One of the most useful for Eyes’ ability, Euphoria makes all enemy bullets 20% slower, making them easier to push away and keeps you generally much more safer. However, this will make it so there are more bullets on screen. Choose this mutation if you spam your Telekinesis.

Throne Butt: Another useful(?) mutation for Eyes, Throne Butt gives each character’s passive a useful boost. This upgrade makes Eyes’ telekinesis much stronger, bringing enemies in faster and pushes projectiles farther away from you. This mutation has amazing synergy with Euphoria, and the pair of mutations could potentially stop enemy projectiles in their tracks. However, it attracts enemies a LOT quicker, so be wary. I’d take Gamma Guts and Euphoria before I take Throne Butt, as it can make the late-game a lot more hellish to play. Hopefully soon it gets changed.

Gamma Guts: A useful little upgrade, it damages enemies who get too close when being pulled by your telekinesis. It’s more useful if you have Throne Butt, but is handy in many ways, along with dealing with scummy enemies like Freaks and Rats who do nothing but deal contact damage with about 2 HP.

Long Arms: A handy upgrade that increases your melee weapon’s range. Eyes is a good melee user, and this mutation allows him to reflect enemy bullets (which all melee weapons except for Screwdrivers do) from a farther, safer range.

Useful Mutations in General

Rhino Skin: One of the most important mutations in my opinion. Gives your character 4 more hit points, increasing your survivability incredibly. If you see this mutation, I would strongly recommend getting it over anything else.

Strong Spirit: Useful if you’re playing offensively, this upgrade prevents your death once per level, and recharges when you return to full health. Good synergy with Second Stomach and other health boosting mutations like Bloodlust and Rhino Skin.

Second Stomach: Doubles the amount of HP given from medkits, which also increases your survivability much more, and can change your situation in seconds.

Back Muscle: If you’re going to use something other than a bullet weapon, this is very important. It increases the bullet max from 255 to 555, and all other ammo maxes from 55 to 99.

Rabbit Paw: This increases the chance enemies drop pickups, which can lead to much more survivability and much more ammo. Great synergy with Back Muscle and Second Stomach.

Trigger Fingers: Nearly instantly reloads your weapon every time you kill someone with it. Pretty self-explanatory, is very important if you’re using weapons with long reload times (i.e. most Super Weapons, many explosive and bolt weapons, some shell and energy weapons)

There are a lot more useful mutations, but I think I’ve named quite enough.

Good Weapons for Eyes

Eyes can be played many ways, as said before, but some weapons can be amazing no matter what upgrades you choose. Here are some of my favorite weapons to use as Eyes, along with some mutations that make the certain weapons stronger.

Gatling Slugger/Heavy Auto Crossbow:
These two weapons are two of my favorite weapons to find in the game. If I find either weapons, it’s basically guaranteed you’ll at least loop. Their high damage output along with their high rates of fire make them amazing in so many situations, and getting Shotgun Shoulders of Bolt Marrow can make you even more deadly. However, I don’t like having both, as I like having a weapon that has some spread to fight against hordes of enemies.

Flame Shotgun, Double Flame Shotgun, and Auto Flame Shotgun:
These weapons are really fun to play with and can be useful later in the game. They all shoot out a spray or flame pellets, with the Double firing twice the amount with a longer reload time, and the Auto shooting less, but being fully automatic. The flame damage can prove to be something deadly, and I once even defeated the Throne with the Auto. The most useful mutation for these weapons is Shotgun Shoulders, which makes the pellets bounce once before disintegrating, and makes normal shells bounce much more.

Seeker Pistol/Seeker Shotgun:
Some of my favorite Bolt Weapons in the game, the Seeker weapons fire two/seven, respectively, seeking bullets that do a respectable amount of damage, along with having a decent reload time. Bolt Marrow is useful with these weapons, but I honestly would take other mutations to help my character’s survivability.

Toxic Weapons (Toxic Bow, Toxic Launcher)
Toxic Weapons are good with Eyes as you can control the little toxic things once the projectile explodes, as you can lead the things to enemies to clear out a place where many enemies are. Currently, there are no mutations to bolster the usefulness of Toxic weapons, and I’m sure there will be as the game updates.

Pretty Much any melee weapons except for Screwdrivers:
As previously stated, Eyes is a good melee character, and there are some pretty badass melee weapons later in the game, like the Lightning Hammer, Energy Sword, and the Ultra Shovel, which are each incredibly useful later in the game.

Most Energy Weapons:
Energy Weapons are great weapons with most characters, and they have an upgrade dedicated to making them stronger. The Laser Weapons are nice, reliable weapons mid-game and Plasma and Lightning Weapons are consistently great even towards the late game and after looping.

Of course, there are a lot of good weapons, but these are some of my favorites.

Ultra Mutations

When you reach Level 10, or Ultra Level, you can choose two Ultra Mutations (three as Horror). In my opinion, Eyes has the most fun ultras in the game.

Projectile Style: As long as you have telekinesis on, your projectiles from your guns will stay stationary near you, and shoot out when telekinesis is turned off. This mutation is the more fun of the two, but can get you overwhelmed and killed if you don’t have very good weapons. Make sure you don’t have Throne Butt if you want this mutation, as it makes the ultra harder to utilize.

Monster Style: This will passively push all enemies away, whether you have Telekinesis on or not. Is useful to get Vans, Assassins, Rats and other contact-damage dealing enemies away from you and basically useless. It’s hard to use this mutation with melee weapons, though, unless you have Long Arms.

In my opinion, I’d always take Monster Style in most situations. The only time I really take Projectile Style is if I have weapons like the Lightning Cannon, Blood Cannon, or Devastator. However, it’s very fun to use, but Monster Style is generally just smarter.

Thanks for reading!

This took a while to make, and I don’t even know if anyone will read this lol, so if you are, thank you a lot for reading it, and I hope you have a great time playing Eyes.
