A basic guide to playing Songs of SyxWith Pictures!

A basic starting guide by Lord Dundar

Welcome to my super basic Songs or Syx guide.
Intro
Songs of Syx is a city building game on a grand scale. You will have thousands of subjects under your care and your choices can determine if they starve or grow fat, or if raiders will torch your city.

Once you have installed the game please understand that this is an early access game and many things will change in the future.

Starting your first game
This is the basic starting screen not much here but the Generator and tutorial.

Right now the Generator starts up a new game it will give you a couple of options but really just start your game and it will create a world map for you.

Placing your capital
Your capital is the only city you will control for right now but you will be able to tax the people that live in your kingdom outside of the capital. Also any trade that moves through your country you can tax.

The things you need to pay attention to here are the fertility numbers and the amount of water, forest and mountains.

Fertility will let you know roughly how well your crops will do. The higher the number the better.
Forest will let you know how much tree cover your city map will have this is a basic resource for wood.
Mountain will let you know how much of the map has mountains on it. If this is to high you may have a hard time finding open space to build a large city.
Water is the amount of rivers and lakes or ocean on your city map. Water can be used for fishing and land near water is more fertile.

Pick a spot that has good Fertility and Forest. water and mountains are less important.

The Landing Party
When you start you will have to place your landing party. The landing party is a throne room and your starting resources and subjects.

Open the map up in the far upper right side so you can see the whole city map.

You can see the resources and plan your city from here. Don’t worry time is not moving so you can look around. Look for coal, metal, rocks and fertile ground with trees nearby.

Once you have found a spot that has your basic resources close by place your landing party and the fun begins.

The main window

Take a minute to look around and scroll over things to learn what they are time will not progress until you start it moving.

The top left has your building menu as well as your population and reputation next the that is the military menu. Click on the building menu.
This is everything you can build if you have resources.

To the right you have the mini map and your resources information.
This lets you know what resources you have in storage and if there is an * you have resources on the map not in a warehouse.

The top middle has the speed controls and the time clock with seasons for growing.
You will start in spring but you don’t have any farms built so you can’t start planting crops.

Lets start building your city!

The First Steps

Now that you have a Throne room lets get your city going
You will want to build a woodcutter and a quarry. Both rooms are a small box but they collect from a large area. Woodcutters and Quarries each employ 2 subjects.

Then you will want to build your first warehouse. Many people will build the infrastructure of a wooden building then the warehouse inside but a trick is to build your warehouse in your throne room.

Now get started on feeding your people. Build your first farms, one grain, one fruit, and one veggie. I would not build a mushroom farm yet as they require wood or stone and the same goes for livestock.

Each farm takes one employee if the size is small around 10×10. If you make the farms to big to start out if will take a long time to build them and they will use many of your subjects.

Increase your speed by hitting 2 or the speed buttons on the top and watch your subjects work.
That’s it for now but I will add to this or create another quick guide soon.
