A Short Guide on Soloing

So here are some general tips and tricks to soloing.

1) START OFF EASY. Play it on Casual Mode. You're already essentially on Hardcore since you are playing as ONLY one character. Thus you cannot switch to another character, go back to a savepoint, and revive the one that died. Which brings us to #2...

2) DON'T DIE. You CAN press Escape and "Go back to last checkpoint." Don't rely on that mentality though. Just make sure you don't switch to another character while you're AT a checkpoint to revive a downed character. If you do, you WILL have to restart the map because the game will count it as having played as another character even if you didn't take a single step with that character. Keep in mind if you're on hardcore mode no one is there to revive you AND the "death" screen will not show an option to go back to the last checkpoint. You're better off ragequitting. Even if you die on the boss battle or at the end of the level, keep trying. I died at the snake boss battle about 3 times with each character before I got it right with Pontius and Zoya. Moreover, I realized Amadeus was just not worth my time trying to solo that level. I moved on.

3) PICK AN APPROPRIATE MAP for each character by playing through it with all 3 characters beforehand. When Amadeus wasn't a good fit for Forlorn Wilderness, I put him in Mosslight Marsh. Profit. Still you must realize, there are squirrelly ways to complete each level with each character. Solo. Otherwise, well FrozenByte would have some very angry fans. A lot of people don't like cheating in their games. There's only a few games on Steam that require you to cheat to get an achievement. And usually the preface to that achievement would say something about cheating.
But I digress. You CAN defeat the snake in Forlorn Wilderness with Amadeus. VERY CAREFULLY. The best way is to conjure some boxes onto the upper platforms. I think the weight from that, especially if you drag them downward, will make the support pillars collapse. OR Jump up your boxes, bait the snake and MOVE quickly off those ledges. The snake will destroy the ledges even if you're not there to eat. Doing this with each of the 3 ledges will cause the roof to collapse (as usual) and the snake will be crushed (as usual).

4) HAVE ALL SKILLS UNLOCKED for the character you're using. This pretty much requires you having completed story mode to get all those experience pickups. Don't worry, there's achievements for those tasks. Still, you may have to press Tab and rearrange skill points, just make sure you have 2-3 tier 2 skill unlocked among your characters to unlock your tier 3 skills. YOU WILL NEED THEM.

5) FINALLY! KNOW YOUR CHARACTERS. You will have to find crafty ways to kill things and overcome obstacles. You can grapple-kick with Zoya, float across a chasm, or kick and enemy with Pontius' shield-glide OR levitate monsters into natural hazards with Amadeus.
There will always be something there in the level to help you. But if you make those factors disappear (for example, if you destroy a wooden cage with Pontius' Sword) YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED TO RAGEQUIT. As always, you CANNOT switch to say, Amadeus and substitute a conjured cage. That's a BIG NO NO. Don't worry. Ragequitting is fine because you can start over and possibly complete the level. Solo.
