Overview
A guide for any player giving recipes for usefull items and giving tips that are well nice little gems!
Usefull Items And How To Make Them
In Escapists there are many items that you can craft, find or steal from cells and prisoners. Here are the ones that you should grab when you have the chance!
Duct Tape can be found on a knocked out prisoner, in their desk or bought from a vendor. Duct Tape is extremely useful when crafting better items for your escape.

This item can only be crafted, not found or bought. You will need: Two Pillows, (found on the beds inside cells). As well as one bed sheet, you should get one when picking up the pillow(s).
This item can be placed in your bed, this acts as a decoy for guards. This will stop them from detaining you if you’re in a vent/hole or outside, unless the hole/vent is uncovered or you’re otherwise discovered.

A Fake Vent Cover can only be crafted or found in a prison stash. It is crafted with two paper mache and nothing else. It’s perfect with the Bed Dummy as you can now crawl around inside your vent all you want. (They do have a durability so be careful not to overuse them.) You won’t need one if you have a screwdriver as using a screwdriver will give you the vent cover to place back, this is a more sustainable method.

A Tool Handle can be crafted using one File obtained in a shop or desk/prisoner and a timber, also obtained the same way. A Tool Handle is one of the most useful items in the early game, making you go from scrub, to near Michael Scofield.
IT IS CONTRABAND.
Pickaxes are used for digging through rocks underground or through walls out or inside your cell.

Flimsy Pickaxe: Is crafted using the Tool Handle a Crowbar obtained buy a shop and Duct Tape. It is the worst of all the Pickaxes but it’s needed for the better ones.

Sturdy Pickaxe: Is crafted with, you guessed it, the Lightweight Pickaxe, Timber and Duct Tape. It is the best off all the Pickaxes but isn’t the best of all tools.

Shovels are used to dig down and forward, a bit cliche but hey-ho
40 intellect
Flimsy Shovel: Yep that’s right it’s the same concept as the Pickaxes but different items. For this you need a Tool Handle, Sheet of Metal bought from a shop or smuggled out of a metalwork station and Duct Tape. It’s the worst but, shouldn’t be for long

Lightweight Shovel: Crafted with, a Flimsy Shovel, Sheet of Metal and Duct Tape. This could most likely do the job but, there’s always better.

IT IS CONTRABAND, (and does run out).
20 intellect
Made with one magazine and a Duct Tape, this can replace any wall (NOT FENCE) that you have mined through. and be picked up and placed down forever!
50 intellect
Made with 3 Wire found on prisoners/desks or bought from shops, it can replace any fence you have cut down and be taken down later for a swift escape!

Keys are made with, one key mould. Putty is needed and is made with, talcum powder and toothpaste, now the hard part. You have to beat down a guard whilst you have at least 50 intellect, take the key he has, and quickly make a key mould of that key with the putty you made earlier then put the guards key back onto his body so he doesn’t realise. Then you will have the mould. You also need Molten Plastic, this is made fairly easily with a comb and lighter. then craft the two together and you should have yourself a working replica, plastic key.

Early Game
Hello! You should be reading this if you’re in the early stages of the game.
There’s a few things you can do at the very beginning. One of which being shielding your cell from the guards, you can do this with three bedsheets. You can quickly grab these before the roll call. Note: They might be taken down, just grab more and repeat, trust me you need them. Also you will start with a comb in your desk, if you highlight it with whatever inventory number it holds for example if it’s in slot 1 press 1 then walk to the wall and grind it there, making a comb shiv, not a great weapon but one none the less.
Now a great bet would be selecting your way out, depending on the prison you can go, out under or above. You’ll need to know the tools to do so. They’re all in another part of the guide.
Once done so get your first preparations sorted, for example if you plan to dig through one of your cell walls, make a poster and get it all sorted. A great thing to do is hide your contraband. You can do this in a vent, hole in the wall or underground. My Favourite is the hole, but beware if there’s a door to the wall then it may be searched. A vent is very safe however.
Also make sure your strength and intellect is at least at 40 each you’re going to need both soon.
Once all of this is done you should be moving on to mid game
Mid Game
So by now you have a decent set-up depending on the prison your contraband is 100% safe. Now it’s time for the good stuff.
Make sure that your intellect is high and that you have a semi decent tool for your escape. For example if digging try to get a lightweight shovel. Timber braces are also usefull (crafted with two timber) If in a vent your next bet is to find a ladder to the roof, getting a length of rope from a shop wouldn’t be a bad idea if you have space for it in your hidden stache, you’ll need it for end game for sure! Also if in vents you will need a shovel for later, so get making a bad one. Crafting is in the other section of the guide.
If following correctly you should have at least 40 strength with a decent weapon this will let you beat down most/all prisoners. You may want to silently beat down a few from time to time, as long as you dont mind them hating you (It doesn’t matter too much) Also a great idea to do for a little extra cash would be to change your job. The Metalwork gives you the most but the Kitchen is really usefull. Giving you unlimited food so your fatigue can be refreshed whilst digging/mining or anything else.
You’re now ready for the next stage!
End Game
Ok great you made it!
You’re going to need a great weapon, check the weapon section for a few selections! You may want to get your strength up to get a key to some doors, check the items section at the bottom for the key recipe. Get ready to pummel some pigs.
So by now you should either have access to the roof with rope and a shovel, or access to outside and a shovel. With this and a few more useful items like the Bed Dummy in the items section you’re almost ready. If you have/had the kitchen job you should also be sorted for fatigue. So run! either use the rope to get down to surface or run outside and use that shovel! You may need one or two timber braces. Use the shovel you have made or be safe and make a better one. Either way you’re very close. You can now dig under the wall or fence to your sweet, sweet freedom!

“Secrets”
——- Visitation ——-
Whilst in game it’s always fun to sit in the visitation area of the game. You will be visited by one of many characters linked to your prisoner. Though the dialogue is the same regularly and the visitors don’t change with each character it’s rather fun to see
—– Time Save —–
Whilst searching a cell pause the game until very near the end of the search. This will pause time itself and will allow you to search desk without the risk of a travelling guard. It’s a nice tip and will save around half of the day you would normally spend loading
—- Glitch —-
So if you place the desks of the prisoners at the entrance of their cell they will teleport to their bed. As the AI will think it cannot move into or out of the cell. All prisoners will be sleeping constantly allowing no random fights. It will also make all of the prisoners lose their job
