Overview
I present to you my strategy for doing jigsaw puzzles…… disclaimer: I am no expert jigsaw puzzler, in fact I’m just a beginner :)Find and place all the edge pieces — While doing that, sort out all the pieces of a similar colour (such as the sky)Place the pieces collected in (1), using trial and errorLook for distinctive features in individual piecesFinish off by looking for piece edges that match the existing placements — as the puzzle nears completion, this becomes easier and easier… Yes, in retrospect I could have chosen a better jigsaw puzzle to demonstrate… but, I’ve started so I’ll finish 🙂
1: Find and place all the edge pieces

… While doing that, sort out all the pieces of a similar colour
2: Place the similarly coloured pieces
Place the pieces collected in (1), using trial and error
3: Look for distinctive features in individual pieces
Take another look at that image in (2). I’ve found some pieces with streetlights on (which I’ve placed on the lower left hand side), and some pieces that clearly belong with a big church, or basilica (which I’ve placed on the lower right hand side).
… and there we have the church, and the lights.
We’re nearly done. This last segment looks intimidating because most of the pieces are black: but there’s only so many places they can fit, and each one placed makes us that much closer to the end game 🙂
4: Finish off by looking for piece edges that match the existing placements
… as the puzzle nears completion, this becomes more and more easy.
