A Streamer’s Guide to Foxhole

Overview

Welcome to Foxhole, Twitch and Youtube streamers! Before streaming Foxhole, there are a few things the community and veteran players would like to make sure is done so that the game remains fun and fair to everyone. This guide will detail these requests and how to satisfy them. THIS GUIDE IS WRITTEN WITH THE ASSUMPTION THAT YOU HAVE AT LEAST A BIT OF EXPERIENCE OF THE GAME~i.e UNDERSTAND CONCEPTS SUCH AS WATCH TOWERS.

Introduction

Seeing more and more streamers in Foxhole is always a delight. It brings in more players and gives the game more publicity. However, due to the nature of the game, an MMO with two factions at war, it can be very hard to stream the game without giving the other team critical intelligence, such as locations of player-made spawn points, resources, etc.

There are ways to avoid this while still streaming enough intelligence for viewers to have context and get a feeling of how the game works. These “solutions” are built-into the game as well as available via third party streaming services, such as OBS.

Leaking intelligence as a streamer makes the information available to many players at the low cost of FREE. Although many people will still “cheat” in this game by purchasing an alternate account and taking screenshots of the enemy map, they will still be using their own funds to do this, streaming it offers intelligence to cheaters for free.

Intel is one of the most important thing in the game, and that people go to great lengths to protect it. As such, it was advised to make a guide to help streamers avoid common info security mistakes.

Map and Intelligence

The Problem

As stated in the introduction, the map (Keyboard “m”) in Foxhole is a crucial part of the game. It shows defences, watch tower radius, resources, player-made spawn points and much more (As seen below). This can give enemy stream-snipers an advantage as they can just instantly tell which side they can flank, or cut our supply lines from.

Solutions

In-Game Secure Map Mode
– The game has a built-in “Secure Map Mode” (Keyboard “n”). This map mode only shows locations of world/player-made spawn points as well as equipment in them. Intel about defences, infantry, watch towers are all disabled in this mode as pictured below.

External Map Overlay
– An overlay (enabled via your streaming software) can be bound to your “m” key which shows a picture on top of the map. Here’s a video tutorial on how to do this using OBS (Skip to 1:31 for the tutorial): [link]

We understand that the map provides context for viewers to understand whats happening in the game as well as how the game world works. If you still want to maintain the strategic map, you can try to flash the map for a 0.7 seconds, or turn down the opacity for a small portion of the screen. Clans

While playing Foxhole, you’ll come across clans. As with any other game, these players are merely just a group of players who enjoy playing with eachother. Normally, they run operations and make clan bases. Tags such as: [82DK], [WN], [CL], [SOM], [UCF] or [UBGE] are all examples of clans.

These clans usually coordinate and gather resources, vehicles, and other equipment for personal use. These are typically employed in what many call “operations”, in which one or more clans devote their material support towards accomplishing a specific goal. Information/intel about these ‘operations’ and location of clan resources is one of the most important ‘secrets’ of the game, and are considered the highest value intel to the enemy faction. Consequently, this is where information security is paramount, as there is a high chance of unscrupulous actors attempting to use your stream to gain an advantage in game.

This does not mean you are unable to participate in these operations however, just that you should be vigilant towards maintaining information security. Feel free to ask clan members if you can assist in any way, however please inform them that you are streaming, so they know to take that into account.

Muting Players

In Foxhole, there are many players who like to play music at an inappropriate volume, or shout racial slurs into their microphones. This is obviously a very bad thing for streamers, and there are actually a few ways to mute friendly and enemy players!

Muting Singular Players
To mute singular players who are being bad, simply either hold down Alt on your keyboard and then left click on the player. This will open a menu of options to mute the player. In the chat window, right clicking the player’s name will open the same menu. Another way is to open the player menu by pressing F1. This screen with show all players in your region. Scroll down until you find the player you want to mute and right click on them.

Muting Entire Factions
To mute entire factions, head to options and then click voice. Here, there are two options. You may either turn off “Voice Chat” to disable ALL voice chat in the game, or you may turn on “Mute Enemy Players”.

Warden Unity Hub and The Colonial Sigil

Hopefully this guide has taught you about the Dos and Don’ts of streaming Foxhole. Many veterans are very serious about these things as this is their way of having fun. A few last words:

The Warden Unity Hub is an ambitious ongoing project that aims to gather all Wardens in one place in order to cooperate, coordinate and also simply hang around with, chat and exchange stories and experiences. Use our state of the art calculators (Logistics and Artillery), interactive planning maps, mods and resources to make your game experience even better.

Anyone that actively plays Wardens can join in using our simple verification process. If you need help with anything or don’t know where to start you can count on our diverse moderation team to give you a hand.

New player or experienced vet, everyone has a place and is welcome to contribute towards a better and more engaged Warden faction.

As a warden streamer, we’d love it if you joined WUH as we can give you feedback on your streams as well as tell you want is okay to stream and what isn’t (For example, if there’s an operation planned and we want to keep EVERYTHING a secret). We’d also be able to plan operations that you’d want to do with your viewers! So, c’mon in and join in, be among the legends of HelpingHans, Versace and KatieRouu!
