A Zombified World, Should Be A Unified World!

Overview

OverviewLooks like I need to explain to people why it’s sooo important that you stick together as a team, justify why you should stay together and share things you find, as you move from area to area on a map, and as you find good gear respectively.I mean, its not like this is a ZOMBIE SURVIVAL game or anything… Keep reading!

Introduction

A zombified world is a unified world

So, you’ve just started playing NMRiH, or you’ve been playing for some time, and have been playing… In a way which only benefits you. This needs to stop. It needs to be about us, the whole team. You know, that thing that increases the chances of survival by quite a bit.

You’re in luck. I’m here to help you buddy! We need all the help we can get in a world full of digusting, stupid, vicious zombies! Yes! Zombies!

A zombified world is a unified world. < counter-intuitive right? Move on!

Well, if you’re part of a larger group of humans, let’s say 4 – 8, and you’re hunkered up somewhere, or have an objective to get somewhere, logic says, “let’s all go together and make sure we’re ALL appropriately armed, and that we stick together in AT LEAST pairs or threes” (UNITY!)… Right? Well, it’s come to my attention that there’s quite a few people out there who are incapable of not being total jerks, and not taking the correct preventitive steps to ensure everyone’s well-being.

If you take SOMETHING away from this guide, even if it’s to stop and think twice the next time you have an unecessary amount of weapons, and you see a fellow survivor who could use that hatchet right now, I’ll be a happy guy! Honest. 🙂
When you’re faced with this…
Wouldn’t you rather be in a situtation like this…?
I mean they look pretty prepared right?

Onwards…

Stick Together! (… Before I glue you together!)

For the love of God…

No joke. The number of games I have played, since it launched on Steam, and since I’ve been playing waaaay back on Desura, it’s amazing how many people literally sprint off as soon as the round starts, and either:

  • Gets killed
  • Steals the best gear
  • Attracts a ton of zombies and gets us all killed
  • … I could keep going…

It’s happened too often for me to be able to handle. I’m not over exagerrating. Fair enough you don’t want to just stand around waiting for the oppertune moment, because in a game such as NMRiH, you are spawned in such a way so that there’s nearly always a pack of zombies you need to kill to continue, and so waiting will probably get you nowhere.

All I want to see, even if you don’t have a mic (if you’re in a lobby with people who don’t speak the same language as you then well… there’s not much me, you, or the zombies can do) at least use your common sense and make a rational judgement as to what the best course of action is at any one time. – Oh, just incase you need a helping hand:

  • Should you… I dunno. RUN back the way you came!?
  • Use precious ammo, create a loud BANG and attract a bunch zombies and just pop the mofo in the face?
  • Mele the poor soul until its/his/her face explodes?
  • Chainsaw them?
  • Burn them!?
  • Blow them up with grenades…! You get the point!!!

Regardless of your current situation, I will never believe that at least 1 of those options above is never available to you.

Hell if you’re always with at least ONE other person, then there will always be someone to watch your back…
Which brings me onto the next section of this incredibly useful, witty guide to No More Room in Hell… 🙂

Look Out Behind You! (… I saved you! (Maybe) That was close!)

*Wipes blood off face*

Whew. That was close! I saved yo a** dude! What would’ve happened if I didn’t have your back bro? That zombie would’ve crept up behind you (do zombies creep?) and mauled you to death!

This happens.
Believe me it happens.

Why’s it so hard to keep and eye out for zombies… It benefits everybody! Honest!
Just today I someone round the corner of a building getting DONE harshly by about 4 zombies, none of us were there, helping him out. All he had was a hammer bless him. Yeah he died. We couldn’t save him in time.

It’s quite upsetting actually, because these sort of situations can be dealt with and avoided, assuming the necessary precautionary measures are met.

First of all, you’ll have to stick with at least one person, as I mentioned in the first part of this guide. If you don’t do that then well, you can’t move on to this next part.
When you’re playing, be it on an objective map or survival map, don’t move throughout the areas in *static* way. By that I mean always try and be aware of everything happening around you. The zombies can be quite crafty at times a start following you from behind without you knowing. Hence why if you say have someone moving towards to next objective, keep an eye on what’s happening behind you, as well as to the left and right of your squad.

If you can consistently and continuously report back as to what’s happening nearby, you increase the chances of surviving marginally. It also prevents dying from shock. (Heart attacks and such)
You give your team so much more time to prepare a counter attack if there’s a pack of zomies woddling towards you – This gives them time to:

  • Reload their weapons
  • Charge up a mele attack
  • Fire up their chainsaws
  • Light a molotov cocktail
  • Place some dynamite
  • Cook a grenade
  • … And the list goes on

Now, the list above is very explicit in its detail and I understand how it may only be in extreme conditions where your team might need x,y,z amount of time to prepare themselves, however there are an abundance of other things of which its success relies on how aware the team are of their surroundings.

Of course, all of this time given to them is pointless if all your teammates do is shoot you in the face. Generally, you should tell your team everything, but if they seem to be more triggerhappy than a firing squad ordered to mow down a crowd of sheep, it might be for the best to not tell them you been infected until you have no other choice. Sometimes your teammates are the worst danger to everyone’s heath.

Listen to your teammates! (They’re all you’ve got!)

HUGE shoutout to [ZE]Sgt.Santa Luxray for suggesting this section! A really helpful one, and also one I could go on and on about forever!

Note: Added [ZE]Sgt.Santa Luxray to the contributors list due to his commitment to the project! 😀

OK so Zombies can’t talk (most of the time) and they certainly won’t suddenly betray the whole zombiefied population and start watching your back for you – but not to worry! It’s not like you have a team of sane (really?) humans who are willing to help you out!

Wait, they haven’t read this guide have they?

This theme and whole idea of teamwork runs all the way through zombie games, and it always has. You can link pretty much every aspect of a zombie survival game to teamwork in one way or another.

It’s literally impossible to survive a zombie apocalypse without aid from others, and HMRiH is absolutely no exception.

As [ZE]Sgt.Santa Luxray mentions in the comments below:

I can’t tell you how many times there is one guy left alive, alltalk is on so the guy had no excuse,
and the last remaining zone on a survival map was being taken over, the guy was right outside…
and ignored everyone telling him to get back inside and kill the lone zombie that made us lose the
map.

This has also happened to me a number of times. In fact something even more annoying happened to me back in the early beta stages of the game, slightly off-topic, but nevertheless I would like to share it with ya’ll:

I joined a server with two survivors on (map time was set to infinite) with no-clip enabled in the server settings. They both openly refused to die, just so that the other 3 of us spectating wouldn’t get to play the objective map… Really? That’s just going out of your way to be a total ♥♥♥♥.

I’m sorry, but if you want to troll a somewhat (back then) hardcore community, go play COD and be camping n00b or something. Foreal.

Remember, when a team member dies, they are able to spectate and move freely around the map. Their advice could be invaluable, and as Sgt.Santa Luxray oh so painfully recalled previously, it was the ignorance of their team member which cost them the game.

Just downright ignoring the advice of your team members can be one of the most infuriating things to have to deal with in a game. You shouldn’t be playing a survival based game if you’re not willing to receive help from those on your team.
The whole point of zombie survival games such as NMRiH, is to test how well a group of survivors can deal with eachother under (assumingly) pressure.

Now, NMRiH is not an easy game. Far from it, and it normally chucks you in a scenario at the beginning of a zpo map, whereby you have to kill a number of zombies to make any serious ground. It’s at this point where you need to start strategizing and thinking how best to move through the hoard. Chances are you have at least one/a collection of the following items in your inventory from the outset of a map:

  • A flashlight (very common to find it at the beginning of a map, considered a critical tool)
  • A pistol (also common to find it with at least a full mag of ammo)
    – common to find colts and berretas early on

  • A melee weapon (these are the most common types of weapon to find)
    – ranges from wrenches to baseball bats

So there’s no excuse not to have the necessary tools to fend for yourself or your team – collectively, you have ample weapons and tools at your disposal, so the tools to defend yourself are there, it’s just a matter of how well you can utilise them as a team to make the most of them.

It’s literally beyond me how people plan on having any chance of survival in a zombie game if they’re simply unwilling to co-operate effectively as a team.

If you’re that incapable of working together to accomplish an objective, then NMRiH may not be the game for you.

That’s it for now.

I know it’s short, but I will constantly update this guide with more content as I produce it, mark my words, I will return! (=

Any comments, ideas, suggestions, corrections/erros etc. please post them in the comments!
I would love to hear what you thought of this light hearted, humourous (it was a little bit funny right?) *guide* .
(Can you believe it? A guide on how to survive a zombie apocalypse!?)
