Dungeon Defenders Guide

Accessory Set Effects for Dungeon Defenders

Accessory Set Effects

Overview

So I finally made a guide about accessory sets!Ever noticed why some players have special effects on their heroes that leave trails behind? Well, I think I am not the only one who fancies that. So this guide will help you to look as cool as them!

How do effects work?

In order to create a special effect around your hero you need to match 2 – 3 certain accessories that you get rewarded after doing campaigns or challenges. Some sets can be created by using more than just 1 accessory option. But about that I will explain later. For now, let’s get to the basics.

Each accessory can match one of these main four areas depending on the hero you have.

  • The area over “Hat” could also be a brooch, a feather, a plume, horns etc.
  • The area over “Mask” could also be a nose, a beard, a mustache, spectacles etc.
  • The area over “Bracers” could also be armguards, wristwraps, cuffs etc.
  • The area over “Blocker” could also be a shield, a targe, a bulwark etc.

Once you get familiar with the types and names of all the accessories that there are in the game, you will be able to recognize them faster and match the exact accessories that you need for each effect.

Note: None of the accessory sets can give bonus to your hero’s stats like the armor does.
This is a misconception that most players have. Accessories have only a cosmetic feature on your hero to give him a cool effect. Just some accessories are individually way better or worse in stats than others.

Tip: It is possible to farm an ultimate accessory but this is a story for another guide.

*I had to censor the picture above because Steam thinks it shows nude. Thanks to the chromatic staff members of the game who really helped me on that. *sarcasm*

Which are the accessory effects?

There are 10 accessory sets that you can create in Dungeon Defenders:

  • Christmas (Winter Mire, Winter Wonderland)
  • Crystalline Dimension
  • Embermount Volcano
  • Magus Citadel
  • Omenak
  • Palantir
  • Pirate Invasion
  • Temple of Love (blue hearts)
  • Temple of Love (pink hearts)
  • Tomb of Etheria

EVENT ITEM: There is an extra effect of an accessory that was rewarded to players in a previous event in the game. Head over to Party Horn (event item) chapter to read more details.

Let’s go through each one of them and see which accessories you need for the cool effects!

Christmas: Winter Mire, Winter Wonderland

For this effect you may match accessories from two maps. The Winter Mire, which is a Lost Quest map and Winter Wonderland which is a large Holiday-themed bonus map set in the town of Darrowcove.

Tip: Winter Mire, Winter Wonderland and Silent Night are the three maps to farm coal!

All of the Winter Mire’s accessories are interchangeable with the Winter Wonderland’s ones to still create the snowy effect. Like I mentioned in the first chapter of my guide, this effect can be created using more than only 1 accessory option because both challenges have Christmas accessories.

The accessories that you need to have for this effect are in combination of the ones below:

  • Candy bracers
  • Christmas lights
  • Rudolph antlers
  • Rudolph nose
  • Santa beard
  • Santa hat
  • Santa spectacles

As long as you have a hat, a mask and bracers from any of those accessories above, you’ll get the cosmetic effect.

Crystalline Dimension

For this effect you will need 3 of these accessories depending on the hero you have:

  • Crystalline Feather
  • Crystal Mask
  • Crystal Bracers
  • Ultimate Crystalline Defender (shield)

Note: The Crystalline Dimension challenge rewards exclusive accessories to players. The host only gets one accessory per hero while other players get two accessories per hero.

*The Ultimate Crystalline Defender is a shield awarded for defeating the Great Old One for the first time, as the hosting player. Only one defender can be obtained per Steam account.
**The Ultimate Crystalline Defender shield stays in your inventory when you beat the Great Old One boss and only you can equip it on your hero or any other squire/countess you have. You cannot drop or trade the shield with other players in the game.

Embermount Volcano

This effect gives your hero a heat trail in movement.

To achieve that you will need to match the 3 accessories below:

  • Ember Quill
  • Guise of Embers
  • Ember Bracers

Players will be rewarded the accessories above by completing the Embermount Volcano map.

Note: The Embermount shield is rewarded to players after completing the Flames of Rebirth challenge.

Magus Citadel

This effect gives an arcane looking circle (very similar if not the same as the loading screen) created at your hero’s feet. When in movement it fades away after a second or so.

You will need both of these accessories to activate the effect on your hero:

  • Magic hat
  • Magic monocle

Players get rewarded these accessories by completing the Lost Quest map of Magus Citadel.

Omenak

This effect is the darker themed version of the Palantir’s Anatar accessories with black wings and red circle that in movement gives a red trail to your hero.

For this effect you will need to match 3 – 4 accessories from the ones below depending on your hero character:

  • Omenak Brooch
  • Omenak Mask
  • Omenak Bracers
  • Omenak Shield

Players get rewarded these accessories by completing the Lost Quest Cathedral of Omenak map.

Palantir

This effect gives your hero a pair of white wings.

The accessories that you will need for this effect are the lighter version of Omenak’s ones.

  • Brooch of Annatar
  • Mask of Annatar
  • Bracers of Annatar
  • Shield of Annatar

Players get Anatar accessories rewarded by completing the Palantir bonus map.

Pirate Invasion

This effect creates a small explosion of skull and crossbones icons coming from the center of your hero.

Players get rewarded the accessories below once they complete the Pirate Invasion which is a challenge mission for Buccaneer Bay:

  • Pirate/Buccaneer Hat
  • Pirate Patch

Temple O’ Love (blue hearts)

This effect gives your hero flying blue hearts. For this effect you will need:

  • Top Hat
  • Love Links

These accessories, including the pink hearts effect set, are rewarded to players by completing the Temple O’ Love challenge.

Note: This set contradicts with the Party Horn (event item) accessory. Head over to Party Horn (event item) chapter for more details about the confetti effect.

Temple O’ Love (pink hearts)

This is the same effect with the Temple O’ Love (blue hearts) but with a pink hearts effect instead.

For this effect you will need the accessories below:

  • Bow
  • Masquerade mask

All of the Valentine accessories of blue and pink hearts effect, can be farmed by completing the Temple O’ Love challenge.

Tomb of Etheria

This effect gives your hero yellow wings made out of two Eye of Horus.

You will need all 3 pieces from the Tomb of Etheria map to activate the effect:

  • Cat Brooch
  • Mask of Bastet
  • Cat Bracers

Party Horn (event item)

There is another obtainable “cosmetic set bonus” with the Party Horn event item. You can’t farm any version of it anywhere but it does have its own unique cosmetic set for equipping it.
This one for being exclusive to an event item, the Party Horn, has a confetti explosion coming from your character when equipped. It has its own effect. It’s not part of any other set, it just works on its own.

Note: If you combine this accessory with the Temple O’ Love blue hearts set, whichever one you activated first will work while the second one gets cancelled out. You can have the blue hearts accessories with the Party Horn too but if you equip the Party Horn before you equip those it’ll cancel out the blue hearts, as it’s the only accessory set that doesn’t require a mask. Basically, you can equip the correct pieces for two different sets that way but only the one you put on first will work.

I would like to thank my awesome best friend Harlaown for helping me with the gif pictures and Saitama for completing my accessories collection. These two gamers are of the oldest OPs in the game so I trust their knowledge!

I hope you enjoyed reading this guide. Good luck farming those accessory sets. Let’s see more cool players in the game!

Give a thumbs up to this guide if you liked it and helped you!
