Actions in Claire’s campaign that influence Barry’s campaign

Overview

An overview of the actions you can take as Claire that have a direct influence on how Barry’s campaign plays out. Don’t worry, story-related spoilers are hidden so you need to highlight the text if you want to read it, like this: spoiler.

Episode 1

At the end of episode 1, Claire and Moira can turn on a flamethrower to keep the afflicted at bay. At the start of Barry’s campaign, he too will need to find a way out of the prison building. If there isn’t a huge flamethrower in the way, he can just walk out of the building. If Claire and Moira did activate the flamethrower, Barry will have quite a fight on his hands in order to shut down the flamethrower.

Note: if you decide to use the flamethrower while playing through Claire’s episode 1, make sure you turn it towards the cells first and then activate it, or you’ll destroy the weapon part that’s on the blade trap when you turn the active flame thrower towards the cells. Also, when you first enter the room as Natalia, make sure to grab the weapon part before turning the flame thrower around or the weapon part will be vaporized, too.

Episode 2

To kill or not to kill a boss

After Pedro mutates into an afflicted, you have a boss fight on your hands. At first, the best thing to do either way is run. After a short while, Neil will kick down a ladder and you can climb on top of the roof. Now you have a choice: you either run or you kill Pedro. Killing Pedro from the roof is easy: the normal afflicted can climb ladders, so they will follow and need to be dealt with, but Pedro can’t. So you can just pick him off from the rooftop (shoot at him, throw bottles down at him), as long as you keep the afflicted in check.

Whether or not you kill this boss has a huge impact on Barry’s episode 2:

  • If you didn’t kill him as Claire and Moira, Barry will have to face him near the end of his episode 2 in a rather small, enclosed area so the fight will be a lot more stressful.
  • If you did kill him with Claire and Moira, Barry won’t have to, of course. But also Pedro’s drill will be lying on the floor of the Wossek, meaning Barry can skip quite a chunk of his chapter 2 and pretty much just walk right out of a large building he would otherwise have to go through.

Barry will also be able to access a room in the warehouse where he’ll find some small treasure like an emerald.

Use crowbar to remove the wooden board from a door to allow Barry to enter that room

When you enter the building you see here in the distance, the one whose entrance you see through a circular opening when you leave the previous building:

You’ll see a workbench immediately after you’ve entered the building:

When you go through the next door (i.e. the only way you can go from the room with the workbench in it), you’ll see some letter boxes in front of you. Don’t go there yet, but turn left and you’ll see a corridor with three doors. The door on the left has a wooden board that Moira can remove using her crowbar:

If you remove the board from this door, Natalia will be able to open the gimmick box in the room behind it, and find a parts box for Barry (Capacity 2).

Episode 3

3 things to do in the sewers

1) From the old man and the workbench, go around the corner, go right at the junction (ahead is a dead end), and then right again at the next junction. You’ll see a waterfall:

Go through the waterfall and you’ll be standing in front of a gate. Turn around, so you’re facing the waterfall again, and spot the large pipe above the waterfall:

Climb the ledge you see to your left and cross the pipe to a small niche with a wheel:

Turn the wheel to open the gate. When Barry gets here, he’ll be able to take the AK-7 assault rifle that will have appeared behind the gate you just opened.

2) From the waterfall, continue (east) and you’ll see a balcony up high:

Climb up to the balcony and throw down the box you find here:

Barry will be able to use the box to climb the balcony opposite from the one you’re on right now. He’ll find a weapon part there (Firing Rate 3).

3) After killing the ‘Vulcanblubber’ in the sewers, go up the stairs where it appeared. Before having Moira open the door ahead with her crowbar, look to your right. You can jump across here:

Do so, climb up to the higher platform and across to the next ledge:

Drop down. You’ll see another wheel that opens the gate to this area:

When Barry gets here, Natalia will be able to open a gimmick box in a crawlspace beyond the gate you just opened. That gimmick box contains an Assault Rifle Ammo Case.

Who kills the boss?

At the end of the chapter, you’ll fight a cool bossfight against mutated Neil. When he’s down, get in the elevator. When the elevator stops, have Claire open the doors. Neil busts in again and the three of them fall down. Shortly after, Neil falls on top of Claire and you have a major choice to make: the boss needs to be finished off by either of the ladies.

You can switch between Claire and Moira and choose who delivers the final blow. Depending on who does this, you’ll get a different ending of the game at the end of episode 4:

  • If Moira kills Neil, you’ll get the ‘good ending’. This also means you’ll get an extra fight against the final boss, to actually kill her for good.
  • If Claire kills Neil, you’ll get the ‘bad ending’.

Episode 4

When you go through the first door at the very start of Claire’s episode 4, you’ll be in some sort of a control room. On your left, you’ll see a monitor and a switch that changes the flow of a waterway:

Whether or not you flip this switch determines the route Barry will have to follow at the start of his episode 4. This also means you’ll be able to reach only one of the following two weapon parts as Barry:

  • If you didn’t flip the switch: Piercing 1
  • If you did flip the switch: Anti-Recoil 2
