Layers & zIndex

Layers are one of the most important things in Map Making, if you want to be Better Map Maker you must know how to use the properly

To open Layers Tab click this arrow:

This Shows up:

There is seven Layers:

  • Lights
  • Layer 5 – Sprites
  • Player
  • Layer 4 – Sprites
  • Layer 3 – Blocks
  • Layer 2 – Blocks
  • Layer 1 – Sprites

    Info

  • Layers are above each other so Everything in Layer 5 si Overlapping Layer 4 and so on..
  • In every Layer you can place only what it is for, so for example you cannot put any Sprite into Layer 3
  • You can Make any Layer notVisible and Visible again

  • Same for Locking, you Cannot do anything to anything in Locked Layer
zIndex

What is that?

  • Layers of LayersLayers 1, 4, 5 and Lights has Many more Layers which you can Move Things Into
  • Example: There are two Sprites in Layer 4, Sprite 1 and Sprite 2, I want S1 to be Above S2, so i change zIndex of S1 to 3<
  • When Created All sprites has zIndex 2
  • If Sprites have same zIndexes they are Divided by When they were created, New ones are Above Old ones

Hints & Tricks

I have Found out some Things that you May Find Interesting and could maybe Help you.

Block-Sprite Trick
In Sprites you can Find Blocks like Glass, Core etc.
So if you need for example Glass block that cannot be destroied place Invisible Core and Over it place Glass Sprite on Layer 4 or 5.

Same Goes for Every other Block.

You can do same thing just for hiding Blocks.
For example you need to Hide Blocks of Stairs so you put another Sprite (Wall forex.) into Layer 4.

Stair (Ladder) Trick

You know that if you place Ladder next to the Block in same Layer it disapeares.
To prevent that easily you can place Ladder next to the Block than Another one Over/Behind it in different Layer OR you can put Sprite of Ladder Over it (i use this more)

Without Trick:

With It (Second Layer Way):

With It (Sprite Way):

Map Maker as Private Server

I don’t know Why but People say that you cannot use Map Maker as Your Server to play with your Friends on.
You CAN

How to:
When you are In Map Editor just press ESC and Invite your Friend through Invite a Friend

Or tell him your Room’s ID

Buildings in Distance
You can make a building that looks like it’s in the distance…. you reduce the scale of the building (sprite) then put it above the ground and place dirt wall under it (set all of them under the 3rd. layer so it won’t cover/block you) Idea by: RhimFlesS

END

I Hope it helped You at least a little bit.
