Overview
A detailed guide about Paint Chips with the most recent regular update V1.5.0. Much of the information from the “Paint Chips Basics” guide was also used to help create this guide.
Controls
Here are the basic default key controls for the game:
Keyboard/Mouse
- Movement: WASD
- Aim: Mouse cursor -or- Arrow Keys
- Use Weapon/Fire: Left-Mouse Button
- Throw Bomb: Right-Mouse Button
- Swap Weapon: Q
- Zoom: C
- Interact with objects and weapons: Press or Hold E
- Emote: Keys 1 through 8
- Text-Chat: Enter/Return
- Cancel/Menu: Escape
- Net Info: ` (Backquote)
- View Scores during matches: Tab
You can choose to set custom key bindings and also reset keys to the default settings in the “Settings” option in the “Controls” tab.

Title Screen
Before playing Paint Chips for the first time, the Paint Chips Rules prompt will show up when you start the game. By clicking on the “I Agree” button you are allowed to view the title screen and connect to the game or click on the other available button options. Clicking on the “Quit” button will close the game.
Under the Paint Chips logo is a “Choose a Server” list.
- Currently there is only one server available and it is the “North America” server.
- Clicking the “North America” server will connect you into the Social Lobby.
On the lower left corner of the title screen are the “Settings” and “Quit” buttons.
Clicking on the “Settings” button will give you two options for “General” and “Controls” settings.
- “GENERAL” settings allows you to change RESOLUTION, change REFRESH RATE (HZ), to toggle FULLSCREEN on/off, change VOLUME for SFX and MUSIC, to toggle sfx and music PLAY IN BACKKGROUND on/off, to toggle MATURITY FILTER on/off, change UI SCALE to SMALL, MEDIUM or LARGE (default), change “CVD FILTER” to “NORMAL” (default), “PROTANOPIA”, “PROTANOMALY”, “DEUTERANOPIA”, “DEUTERANOMALY”, “TRITANOPIA”, “TRITANOMALY”, “ACHROMATOPSIA”, or “ACHROMATOMALY”, and also to change “SCREEN SHAKE FREQUENCY” to “ALWAYS”, “COMMON”, “SOMETIMES”, “RARELY”, or “NEVER”.
- “CONTROLS” settings allows you to set custom key bindings and to also to RESET KEYS TO DEFAULT settings.
- Clicking on the “Quit” button will close your game.
On the right side of the title screen are the “Rules”, “Play Guide”, “Discord”, “Twitter” and “Credits” buttons.
- Clicking on the “Rules” button will let you view the Paint Chips Rules that you had to agree to before playing Paint Chips.
- Clicking on the “Play Guide” button will show you the link to Advanced Paint Chips Guide, which is this guide.
Clicking on the “Confirm” button will take you directly to the guide in your browser. - Clicking on the “Discord” button will show you the link to our official Paint Chips Discord[discord.com]. Clicking on the “Confirm” button will take you directly to the invite link in your browser and may automatically launch your Discord app to let you join our server. If it doesn’t you can click on the “Continue to Discord” button that is on our invite link to join our server.
- Clicking on the “Twitter” button will show the link to our official Tweets by PhatRobit. Clicking on the “Confirm” button will take you directly to our PhatRobit Twitter page in your browser.
- Clicking on the “Credits” button will show you the names and position of the three members of our development team and where we got our current Paint Chips music.
In-Game ESC Key Options
Clicking the ESC key in the Social Lobby brings up four options:
- Clicking the “I’m Stuck” button will teleport you near the house with the green roof in the bottom right corner of the Social Lobby.
- Clicking on the “Settings” button will give you two options for “General” and “Controls” settings.
- “GENERAL” settings allows you to change RESOLUTION, change REFRESH RATE (HZ), to toggle FULLSCREEN on/off, change VOLUME for SFX and MUSIC, to toggle sfx and music PLAY IN BACKKGROUND on/off, to toggle MATURITY FILTER on/off, change UI SCALE to SMALL, MEDIUM or LARGE (default), change “CVD FILTER” to “NORMAL” (default), “PROTANOPIA”, “PROTANOMALY”, “DEUTERANOPIA”, “DEUTERANOMALY”, “TRITANOPIA”, “TRITANOMALY”, “ACHROMATOPSIA”, or “ACHROMATOMALY”, and also to change “SCREEN SHAKE FREQUENCY” to “ALWAYS”, “COMMON”, “SOMETIMES”, “RARELY”, or “NEVER”.

- Clicking the “Disconnect” button will take you to the Paint Chips title screen.
- Clicking on the “Quit” button will close your game.
Clicking the “ESC” key in the custom and quick play lobbies brings up only two options:
- Clicking on the “Settings” button will give you the same settings options as in the Social Lobby.
- Clicking the “Leave” button will take you back to the Social Lobby.
Clicking the “ESC” key in a match brings up three options:
- Clicking the “Resume” button closes the options list.
- Clicking on the “Settings” button will give you the same settings options as in the Social Lobby.
- Clicking on the “Leave” buttons will take you back to the Social Lobby.
This is the settings options:
Daily Login Bonus
Log in Bonus Day 1 begins the next day you log in after you first start the game. Logging into the game each day consecutively will award you with some Bukkits and Chips, depending on the number of consecutive days you have connected.
The current rewards are:
- Day 1: 1 Bukkit
- Day 2: 1 Bukkit
- Day 3: 1,000 Chips
- Day 4: 1 Bukkit
- Day 5: 1 Bukkit
- Day 6: 2,000 Chips
- Day 7: 10 Bukkits
Once you reach day 8, it will reset back to day 1, starting the loop over again.
There is a Steam achievement: “Log in Streak – Log in for seven consecutive days”
GM Title
GM stands for Game Master.
It is a title reserved only for the development team and moderators. It is a title created so that players could easily identify us in-game and so that nobody else could try to impersonate us. GM’s also have a GM icon next to their name and pink text color when they chat.
Social Lobby
- You enter the Social Lobby when connecting to the game, and when exiting matches.
- It’s a gathering spot to hang out, chat, group up, and make friends before playing matches.
- You can also customize your character here in the Item Shop, purchase VIP, choose your emotes, view the weekly Leaderboard, view the notice board, view Your Stats and view the Daily Challenges you could complete for the day.
- You are also able to view the current amounts of Chips and Bukkits you have in the lower-right corner of the Social Lobby.
You can see your local system time displayed in the upper-right corner of the Social Lobby.
On the lower right corner of the Social Lobby there are five buttons you can click on starting from left to right: Quick Play, Custom Games, Daily Challenges, Your Stats, and Item Shop
Chat
- In the social and pre-match lobbies the purple chat icon can be found on the lower-left corner.
- In matches the purple chat icon can be found on the upper-left corner.
- You can click on the purple chat icon to toggle chat on and off.
- You can chat by pressing the Enter key.
- You can chat in all the lobbies and in matches.
- You cannot chat when the match results screen is showing.
- Chat logs are stored up to a max of 50 messages.
- Chat logs are saved and carried across lobbies and matches.
- GM and VIP players have a special color and icon associated with their chat messages.
- You can move the input caret via click or arrow keys to edit your messages more easily before sending them.
- You can select, copy and paste text in the input box.
Adding Friends
- Currently you can only add friends through Steam.
- The purple friends icon is on the upper-right corner of the Social Lobby
- If any of your Steam friends are playing Paint Chips, then you will be able to see who is currently online by clicking on the friends icon.
- A number indicator will be shown on the friends icon to indicate how many of your friends are on Paint Chips.
- After opening the friends icon, you will be able to click on your friend’s name to add them to your party if they are in the Social Lobby.
An in-game friend feature will be coming in a future update.
Making a Group
- You can add players who aren’t on your friend list to your group by clicking on their character in the social lobby.
- You can add up to 7 other players to your group.
- Anyone in your group can invite others to join the group.
- While in the Social Lobby, the group leader will have a unique party leader icon on the upper-left corner of their name to indicate that they control the group.
- Only the group leader can take the entire group in and out of matches.
- Only the group leader can remove other players from the group.
- If the group leader leaves the group then the unique party leader icon will move to another player to give them control of the group.
- You can leave the group with the “Leave Group” button that appears at the upper-right of the Social Lobby when you have joined a group.
- You can also leave the group by leaving the match lobbies and a match before the group leader takes the group out of these areas.
Weekly Leaderboard
- If you go across the first bridge to the left in the Social Lobby, there is a “Leaderboard” you can view when you press the E key.
- It shows your current rank on the “Leaderboard” and the current Top 10 players of the week.
- Scores are based on paint, kills, and wins.
- Scores are reset weekly, each Sunday at 12am PST.
- A record of the top 10 are also sent to our Paint Chips Discord[discord.com] every week in this channel: #weekly-leaderboard, in order to keep a historical record of our top players.
- There is an in-game timer on the upper left corner of the “Leaderboard” to show when scores reset.
- There are four Top 10 exclusive items in the Item Shop that only players who have ranked in the top 10 of the weekly leaderboard are able to purchase.
Notice Board
- There is a Notice Board located in the Social Lobby to the left of the house with the green roof.
- You can view the Notice board when you Press E while standing next to it.
- The notice board will display current, future and past events.
- It will also display announcements, news and updates.
Double XP Bonus
Notice of Double XP weekend bonus for Team Doubles.
- Every weekend (Friday to Sunday) there will be a Double XP bonus event applied to a random gametype for Quick Play matches.
- You will be notified the first time you log in each weekend about what gametype the double xp bonus will be applied to for the current weekend.
- When the gametype with the double xp bonus shows up on the voting selection list in the Quick Play lobby, there will be a double xp icon on the gametype that will give the double xp.
Emotes
- There are several emotes available for you to express yourself with.
- The emotes are located on the lower-right side of the game.
- You are able to choose up to eight of your favorite emotes that you can set to your 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8 keys.
- You can set emotes in the Social and pre-match lobbies.
- You can use emotes in all lobbies and matches.
Quick Play
- Clicking on the “Quick Play” icon on the lower-right corner of the Social Lobby will enter you in to a Quick Play match lobby where a 45 second timer begins counting down.
- You can also enter the Quick Play match lobby by walking up to the door of the first house with the green roof in the Social Lobby and clicking on the “Find Match” button.
- Up to 7 other players may join you before the timer runs out.
- Up to 8 players can Chip Boost the match before the match begins
- The Chip Boost button will show up in the lower right corner of the match lobby if you have 5 Bukkits or a free VIP Chip Boost available.
- Once the wait timer hits zero, the lobby will no longer accept more players and will display a voting panel.
- Players will then be able to vote on a random selection of gametypes and map choices.
- The gametype and map that have the highest number of votes will be selected when the countdown reaches zero.
- If there’s a tie, it will select one of the tied selections at random.
- If 8 players fill up the lobby before the timer runs out then the remaining time is skipped and the voting panel will appear immediately.
- Daily challenges can be completed in Quick Play matches to earn bonus Chips.
Gamemodes and Gametypes
- There are currently 7 gamemodes: Paintmatch, Territories, Blasterfight, Rocketfight, Swordfight, Shotgunfight, and Sniperfight.
- Each gamemode has a gametype of 2 teams of 4 and free-4-all.
- Only Paintmatch gamemode has an additional gametype of Team Doubles, which is 4 teams of 2.
- There are a total of 15 gametypes.
- Depending on the gametype, players will be either be placed on the map with their teams or be spread apart individually at the beginning of each match.
- Players that are grouped together will be placed on the same team, unless their group size is larger than the team’s capacity, at which point the remaining players in the group will be placed on the opposing team.
- If not enough players join the match, the remaining positions will be filled with substitute bots that will help even out the teams and to offer extra support in painting the map and chipping the opponents.
- Your hair style color will change to your team color for the match and is also your paint color.
- The score at the end of the match is determined by amount of paint coverage and your team or individual score.
- Your team or individual score is the total amount of paint and kills your team or you were able to acquire during the match.
- The team/s or top 4 players with the higher total score are the victors.
- The goal for all current gametypes is to paint as much of the map in your color as possible, and to chip as many of the enemy as you can.
- Team Paintmatch is 2 teams of 4, Paintmatch is free-4-all and Team Doubles is 4 teams of 2.
- Can be painting and/or chipping focused.
- You can pickup, swap weapons and use bombs.
- Normal paint limitations.
- Team Territories is 2 teams of 4 and Territories is free-4-all.
- Can be painting and/or chipping focused.
- You can pickup, swap weapons and use bombs.
- Normal paint limitations.
- Paint will only stick to un-painted ground and cannot cover enemy paint.
- Team Blasterfight is 2 teams of 4 and Blasterfight is free-4-all.
- Can be more painting than chipping focused.
- You cannot pickup and swap weapons.
- You can only use Blaster and Bomb weapons.
- Normal paint limitations.
- Team Rocketfight is 2 teams of 4 and Rocketfight is free-4-all.
- Can be more chipping than painting focused.
- You cannot pickup and swap weapons.
- You can only use Rocket Launcher weapon.
- Unlimited paint.
- Team Swordfight is 2 teams of 4 and Swordfight is free-4-all.
- Can be more chipping than painting focused.
- You cannot pickup and swap weapons.
- You can only use Sword weapon.
- Unlimited paint.
- Team Shotgunfight is 2 teams of 4 and Shotgunfight is free-4-all.
- Can be more chipping than painting focused.
- You cannot pickup and swap weapons.
- You can only use Shotgun weapon.
- Unlimited paint.
There are Steam achievements: “Match Start – Complete a Quick Play Match”, up to 3x “The Daily Grind” for specific amounts of overall matches completed, up to 3x “The Wins” for specific amounts of overall matches won, and also “Paint Novice/Expert/Pro” for specific amounts of overall paint points earned.
Paint Mechanics
- You move faster on your own team’s paint.
- You walk slower on ground without paint, but even slower on enemy paint.
- You regenerate paint faster in your own team’s paint.
- You regenerate paint slower on ground without paint, but regenerate paint even slower on enemy paint.
- You can only regenerate health on your own team’s paint.
- Stepping off your own team’s paint before you finish regenerating health resets the regeneration timer.
- Using weapons on your own team’s paint consumes less paint.
- Using weapons outside of your own team’s paint consume a lot more paint.
Chip Boost
- “Chip Boost” is a feature that doubles the reward for the entire winning team of the quick play match it is used on.
- The entire losing team also gets a bonus, but it is not as substantial.
- Players can choose to add a “Chip Boost” to a match while in the quick play match lobby area before the match starts.
- The “Chip Boost” button is located in the lower right corner of the quick play match lobby.
- The button will only be displayed if you have enough Bukkits or a free VIP “Chip Boost” to activate it.
- Every player in a match can choose to activate a boost, stacking up to 8 times.
- You will not be charged for the “Chip Boost” until the match begins.
- Each “Chip Boost” costs 5 Bukkits or one free daily VIP “Chip Boost”.
- Players who have purchased the VIP package receives one free daily “Chip Boost” that they are able to apply to one match each day.
- A free indicator will appear on the Chip Boost button when a VIP player has a free chip boost available to use.
- A free chip boost does not stack and must be used each day or it is lost.
There is a Steam achievement: “Chip Booster – Use a chip boost in a match”.
Medals
These are all the medals you are able to earn for being skillful in a match and the requirements for earning the medals. You receive a medal bonus at the end of each match and are able to earn several medals.
Example of medals won and the medal bonus received in a single match.
- First Chip – Get the first kill of the match
- Chipjoy – Kill someone who is on a Chipping Spree
- Assist – Earned when a target you dealt any damage to is killed by someone else
- Revenge – Your next kill is against the player or bot that killed you last
- Avenger – Kill a target that has recently killed one of your team mates
- Double Chip – Get two consecutive kills within 4 seconds of one another
- Triple Chip – Get three consecutive kills within 4 seconds of one another
- Quad Chip – Get four consecutive kills within 4 seconds of one another
- Ultra Chip – Get five (or more) consecutive kills within 4 seconds of one another
- Chipping Spree – Get 5 kills without dying
- Chipping Frenzy – Get 10 kills without dying
- Chipping Riot – Get 15 kills without dying
- Unchippable – Complete a match with 15+ kills and 0 deaths
- Rocket Spree – Get 5 Rocket Launcher kills without dying
- Shotgun Spree – Get 5 Shotgun kills without dying
- Sniper Spree – Get 5 Sniper kills without dying
- Sword Spree – Get 5 Sword kills without dying
There are currently several Steam achievements for earning different amounts of each of the above medals. All of the above and below medals count toward the medal collector Steam achievements.
- Painting Spree – Get a paint score of 400 without dying.
- Painting Frenzy – Get a paint score of 650 without dying
- Painting Riot – Get a paint score of 900 without dying
- Paintcasso Medals – Complete a match with a paint score of 900+ with 0 deaths.
- Dyetastic – Cover the enemy paint with a paint score of 200 without dying
- Dyetacular – Cover the enemy paint with a paint score of 450 without dying
- Dyenamite – Cover the enemy paint with a paint score of 700 without dying
- Dyebolical – Complete the match and cover the enemy paint with a paint score of 700 or more and 0 deaths
- Triplicity – Earn a Paintcasso, Unchippable and Dyebolical Medal in a single match
- Decoy – Awarded to the dead player when someone else gets an “Avenger” medal on the target that killed the dead player
- Speed Painter – Be the first to get a paint score of 100
- Paintjoy – Kill someone on a painting spree
- Paintstar – Get the highest paint score at the end of a match
- Chipstar – Get the most kills at the end of a match
- Shooting Star – Receive both Paintstar and Chipstar medals in a single match
- Rocket Party – Get a paint score of 400 with a Rocket Launcher without dying
- Sniper Party – Get a paint score of 400 with a Sniper without dying
- Shotgun Party – Get a paint score of 400 with a Shotgun without dying
- Sword Party – Get a paint score of 400 with a Sword without dying
Steam achievements are planned for these newer medals as well as higher counts of earning each of the different medals in the future, but can not be implemented right now. Your collection history of these medals will be saved in your stats and counted toward the achievements when they are implemented.
Weapons
Paint Chips currently has six different weapons, but only five are changeable in non-weapon specific gametypes because weapons cannot be changed in weapon specific modes. You are also not able to use bombs in weapon specific modes with unlimited paint. Players can carry two weapons at once and swap between them using the Q key. When a player is chipped, they will drop their weapons on the ground for anyone else to pick up. You can pick up weapons that you aren’t holding using the E key.
There are several weapons that can be seen on the Twin Isles map above.
This the default bomb weapon that is currently unchangeable and doesn’t take up a weapon slot. You can throw bomb by Right-Mouse Button -or- F key. It costs a very high amount of paint and spreads some paint upon impact.
This is the default starting weapon. It’s a short range, rapid fire weapon. It costs a small amount of paint per shot and spreads a very good amount of paint.
This weapon fires a rocket that explodes upon impact with any object. The explosion will instantly chip anyone nearby. The rocket’s range is high, but not unlimited. It costs a high amount of paint per rocket launched and spreads some paint upon launch and impact.
Rocket Launcher Respawn Timer: 2 minutes
This weapon fires a powerful blast in a straight line with a long range. It requires the player to hold the fire key to charge it, and releasing the key will fire it. It costs a medium-high amount of paint per shot and spreads a good amount of paint.
Sniper Respawn Timer: 2 minutes
This is a medium range weapon that fires a powerful spread out blast. It deals a significant amount of damage to anyone within range of its blast and could instantly chip anyone directly in front of the blast. It costs a medium-high amount of paint per shot and spreads a good amount of paint. It also has a knock-back with each shot.
Shotgun Respawn Timer: 1 minute
This is a short to medium range weapon that can be used to slash and dash. It has a dash utility feature, which requires the player to hold the fire key to charge it. This allows the player to perform a short and straight dash that will instantly chip any enemy within its direct path. You can also slash at nearby enemies without having to charge it. It costs a high amount of paint per slash and dash and spreads a good amount of paint.
Sword Respawn Timer: 1 minute 30 seconds
There are currently several Steam achievements for using each of the above weapons for chipping different amounts of enemies and total overall kills using any of these weapons.
Ranks
You gain experience at the end of each match equal to the amount of chips you earn, and have a rank number with an icon. This is purely to display your progress while playing the game and has no impact on matchmaking or skill level.
- Bronze Rank is the first rank from level 1 – 100
- Silver Rank is the second rank from level 101 – 200
- Gold Rank is the the third rank from level 201 – 300
- Emerald Rank is the fourth rank from level 301 – 400
- Sapphire Rank is the fifth rank from level 401 – 500
- Amethyst Rank is the sixth rank from level 501 – 600
- Onyx Rank is the seventh rank from level 601 – 700
There are rank exclusive items that are available for purchase in the Item Shop.
There are currently Steam achievements for reaching Silver, Gold, Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst, and Onyx Rank.
More rank exclusive Items will also be added in future updates.
Maps
There are currently 5 year-round maps available to play on. Weapons only appear on maps for non-weapon specific gametypes.

A new year-round map and limited time event map will be coming soon in future updates: An exclusive VIP map that will only appear in the map selection when a VIP player joins the match lobby and an Autumn map for August 01 – September 30
Custom Games
- Custom games are a way for players to play together with more control over the game options.
- Clicking on the “Custom Games” icon on the lower right corner of the Social Lobby will open a list of Custom Game Lobbies, if no lobbies are available then you can click on the “Create” button to host your own lobby.
- You can also open a list of Custom Game Lobbies in the Social Lobby by walking across the bridge and up the stairs to the door of the house on the upper left corner with the purple roof and clicking on the “Open Lobby List” button.
- To host a public custom lobby, you can skip the name and password option, choose how many players you want to limit in your lobby or leave it at the default 8 players, and click on the “Create Lobby” button.
- To host a private custom lobby you can choose a name and password to share privately.
- The host of the game can select a time limit, gametype, number of bots and the map to play on.
- Custom games will award chips at the end if started with more than one player, but the total is reduced by 75% as a means of preventing players from farming chips too easily.
- Custom games will also award medal chip bonus for medals earned, but the total is reduced by 50%.
- Matches played, won, paint points, kills and medals earned in custom games count toward player stats and achievements.
- Daily challenges cannot be completed in custom matches.
There is a Steam achievement: “Custom Game – Complete a custom match”
Earned medals in custom games also count toward your achievements.
Daily Challenges
- Daily Challenges are an extra option players can try to complete by doing the challenging objectives during Quick Play matches to earn a nice amount of bonus Chips.
- Clicking on the “Daily Challenges” icon on the lower right corner of the Social Lobby will allow you to view the daily challenges along with your current progress.
- Once you complete a challenge, it will be added to your final rewards when viewing them at the end of a match.
- Every day there will be four different challenges to complete.
- Daily Challenges reset each day at midnight PST.
- A timer showing when the daily challenges will reset is on the upper left corner of the Daily Challenges list.
- Daily Challenges are sent to our Paint Chips Discord[discord.com] every day to this channel: #daily-challenges to easily view it before playing the game.
There are multiple different types of daily challenges that could show up each day:
- There are daily challenges that test your skills with specific and overall weapon types by reaching the target amounts of kills. Both within a single match and accumulated over several matches.
- There are daily challenges for playing matches, winning matches, and earning Chips accumulated over several matches.
- There are daily challenges for earning different types and quantities of medals. Both within a single match and accumulated over several matches.
- There are daily challenges for reaching specific paint scores. Both within a single match and accumulated over several matches.
There are several Steam achievements: “Challenge Accepted – Complete every Daily Challenge during a single day” and “Daily Challenger Novice/Expert/Pro” for multiple amounts of overall Daily Challenges completed.
Your Stats
Clicking on the “Your Stats” icon on the lower right corner of the Social Lobby will allow you to view your stats general.
Your general stats includes: total matches, custom matches, wins, daily challenges completed, total chips earned, total paint points, total kills, and total deaths.
By clicking the right purple arrow next to your stats general you can view your stats items.
Your items stats includes: total items purchased, total general purchased, total hairstyles purchased, total hats purchased, total clothing purchased, total pets purchased, total accessories purchased and total effects purchased.
By clicking the right purple arrow next to your stats item you can view your stats weapons.
Your weapons stats include: blaster kills, bomb kills, sniper kills, rocket launcher kills, shotgun kills, and sword kills.
By clicking the right purple arrow next to your stats weapons you can view your stats medals (1/2).
Your medal stats (1/2) include: total medals, double chips, triple chips, quad chips, ultra chips, painting sprees, painting frenzies, painting riots, chipping sprees, chipping frenzies, chipping riots, sniper sprees, rocket sprees, shotgun sprees, sword sprees, chipjoys, assists, revenges, avengers, decoys, first chips, paintcassaos, unchippables, speed painters, dyetastics, dyetaculars, dyenamites, dyebolicals, triplicitys, paintstars, chipstars, shooting stars, rocket partys, sniper partys, and shotgun partys.
By clicking the right purple arrow next to your stats medals (1/2) you can view your stats medals (2/2).
Your medal stats (2/2) include: sword partys, and paintjoys.
In-Game Currency
Chips and Bukkits are the in-game currencies.
- Chips are the in-game currency that you can earn in multiple ways.
- Chips earned counts toward your level to display your progress.
- Chips can be earned by completing Quick Play and Custom matches.
- Chips can be earned with consecutive log in bonuses.
- Chips can be earned by completing daily challenges.
- Chips can be earned by earning medals in matches.
- Chips can be earned when a “Chip Boost” is used in a Quick Play match.
- Chips can be used to purchase a large variety of vanity items in the Item Shop at a higher cost than using Bukkits.
- Bukkits are the in-game currency that you can purchase with real money.
- Bukkits can be purchased by going to the in-game Item Shop and initiating checkout using the “Buy Bukkits” button.
- Bukkits can be purchased in multiple quantities.
- There are six different priced Bukkits bundles.
- Prices will be converted from your local currency into USD.
- Bukkits prices are:
- 10 for $1 USD
- 50 for $5 USD
- 100 for $9 USD (Saves 10%)
- 200 for $17 USD (Saves 15%)
- 500 for $40 USD (Saves 20%)
- 1,000 for $75 USD (Saves 25%)
- Bukkits in the quantity of 5 can be used to initiate a “Chip Boost” in a Quick Play match.
- Bukkits can be used to purchase a large variety of vanity items in the Item Shop at a lower cost than using Chips.
- A small amount of Bukkits can also be earned for free with consecutive log in bonuses.
There are Steam achievements: up to 3x “Chippot!” for specific amounts of overall chips earned.
VIP
- Clicking on the VIP package icon located on the top right corner of the Social Lobby will allow you to view and purchase the VIP Package.
- The VIP Package is a one time purchase that costs $15 USD.
- Once you’ve purchased the VIP package you can still click on this VIP package icon to view the list of VIP perks again.
- The VIP Package has multiple perks including:
- 20% Chip discount on all items in the Item Shop.
- One free daily Chip Boost (normally costs 5 Bukkits) that you can apply to a match, which doubles the winning team’s rewards, and to a lesser extent the losing teams rewards.
- 18 VIP exclusive items in the item shop, which includes 3 of each effects, pets, hairstyles, hats, outfits, and wings.
- Gives you a “VIP” tag on your nameplate.
- Gives you a VIP icon and color associated with your chat messages.
- Allows you to purchase VIP exclusive items in the Item Shop.
More VIP exclusive purchasable items and a VIP exclusive map will be added in future updates. A VIP map will only appear in the map selection choices when a VIP joins the match lobby
Item Shop
Clicking on the Item Shop icon on the lower right corner of the Social Lobby will allow you to view the Item Shop and customize your character.
You can also view the Item Shop by walking past the first house and up the stairs to the door of the house on the upper right corner with the red roof, then clicking the “Open Item Shop” button.
In the Item Shop window, you can select various aesthetic options on your character to get a unique look. There are 7 different types of items in separate tabs located at the top left of the Item Shop that you can choose to customize your character with: General, Hair Styles, Hats, Clothing, Accessories, Pets, and Effects.
- A selection of facial features (mainly eyes) can be selected in this tab.
- You can change your selected eye color in this tab on the right.
- You can change your character’s skin color in this tab on the right.
- You can preview your selected item and color on your character on the right.
- A selection of hair styles and costume heads can be selected in this tab.
- You can change your selected item’s color in this tab on the right.
- You can preview your selected item and color on your character on the right.
- The color you select in this tab is also the paint color of your ammo while in the match lobby and the color of your nameplate.
- A selection of hats and facial objects can be selected in this tab.
- You can change your selected item’s color in this tab on the right.
- You can preview your selected item and color on your character on the right.
- Some items are animated (currently only the “Techno Visor”)
- A selection of clothing can be selected in this tab.

A new icon appears on new items that have been added to the Item Shop after each update.
Outfit Storage feature is planned for a future update.
Besides customizing your character in the Item Shop you can change your character’s display name in the upper right-hand corner of the Item Shop. By default, it will use your Steam username. You can also see how much Chips and Bukkits you currently have in the top right of the Item Shop.
- Chips can be earned in various ways, but the main way is by playing matches and completing daily challenges.
- Bukkits can be purchased by using the “Buy Bukkits” button in the lower right corner of the Item Shop. You can also earn a small amount of Bukkits through daily log in bonus.
- There are a few items you can select from for free, but most items need to be unlocked by purchasing them with either Chips or Bukkits.
- To purchase an item, you select the item you wish to obtain and click one of the “Buy” buttons on the right. There will be two “Buy” buttons, depending on which currency you wish to use.
- Some items are exclusive to VIP and you cannot have access to them unless you purchase VIP.
- Some items have a special lock and cannot be purchased unless you meet the special criteria. The special criteria to purchase special items can be a specific rank, being in the Top 10 of the weekly Leaderboard or being VIP.
- Seasonal and Event Items can only be purchased during specific dates. Once the dates have passed, then those items will be locked for purchase until the specific dates occur again. If you’ve purchased the seasonal and event items before the specific dates have passed then you can still wear the item at anytime.
Once you’re happy with your new look and finished with everything else in the Item Shop, you can close the window using the red X in the upper right corner.
There are several item collector Steam achievements for purchasing specific amounts of items in several categories, purchasing overall amounts of items and collecting all the items in each limited time event.
Limited Time Events in Paint Chips
Limited Time Events in Paint Chips could have different time durations it will be available and amounts of items for purchase in the item shop during its event. After limited time items are purchased with either Chips or Bukkits, the items are yours to keep and wear even after the event is over.
Some events will include a themed map that will be available to play for the duration of each event it is released with. Each event will also have a Steam Achievement to purchase all the items for each event, so be sure to check each event for all the details.
