All Endings (+How To Get Them)

Overview

All of the endings in Doki Doki Literature Club! can range from taking hours to get to taking a mere few clicks to complete. And that’s okay! But the short way to get them all is right here! This is updated often (whenever something comes to my attention).

Premature Endings

Delete Monika’s character file (monika.chr) from the “characters” folder, then start a game. You can then launch the game again after it crashes to get your actual “END” screen.

Open the game once, delete Sayori’s character file (sayori.chr) from the “characters” folder, then quit the game (if it is open) and (re)launch it. You always get the same result after it crashes.

On a positive note, nothing happens when you delete Natsuki (natsuki.chr) or Yuri’s file (yuri.chr).

There is one that’s considered an “ending” to some, and that is the Ghost Menu. Whenever you start up the game, there is a 1/64 chance that you will open the game and get the “ghost menu.”

Normal Ending

Basically, play the game as normal without seeing/obtaining all of the special character graphics. This is the most common ending to get among people who just play it linearly without going out of the way to see all of the CGs.

Good Ending

In order to obtain the good ending, you must see every single special Character Graphic in the game. Character graphics are when the game switches from the usual character-on-top-of-background format and shows actual art. This includes, but are not limited to: Yuri reading a book with chocolate in her mouth, Sayori hugging the main character, and the main character pinning down Natsuki.

All of your choices don’t matter – what matters the most is that you save, write poems for a particular girl, and load. (Also, occasionally invite a particular girl over to your house.)

Useful tip: To make this go by quicker, go to “Settings” and go check both “Unseen Text” and “After Choice” under the Skip tab. This can save you a lot of time of just sitting around and using Auto, or pressing space as quick as you can. If you want though, you can just turn up the text speed and leave the entire game on Auto.

GOOD ENDING: ACT 1

  • Save at the first poem-writing segment. Write a poem for Natsuki.
  • Write the second poem for Natsuki (again).
  • Write your third poem for Natsuki (again again).
  • Invite Natsuki to your house.
  • See Natsuki’s CG, and then load the first poem-writing save. Write a poem for Sayori.
She’s energetic and lazy. Basically, any leftover words that were for Natsuki is for Sayori.
If needed, feel free to check the poem-writing guide I linked in the first part of this walkthrough.

  • Write the second poem for Sayori (again).
  • Write your third poem for Sayori (again again).
  • Choose to invite Yuri to your house.
  • Move on to the next act.

    GOOD ENDING: ACT 2

  • Go straight for Yuri, writing all of your poems for her.
  • Move on to the next act.

    GOOD ENDING: ACT 3

  • Talk to Monika for a bit.
I believe you have to read 10 random dialogue prompts while waiting in the room with her.
  • Delete Monika’s character file (monika.chr) in the “characters” folder, and then launch a new game. All is similar to the normal ending, up until Sayori talks to you.

Extra Notes

A CG is a character graphic. Any time that you get a special cutscene with a girl (i.e. reading a book with Yuri next to you, Monika staring at you, Natsuki grabbing boxes from the top of the closet, buttoning up Sayori’s outfit) you gain a character graphic. There are about three graphics for each “obtainable” character (but only one for Monika).

You can access the game files (through Steam) by going to the LIBRARY, and then right-clicking Doki Doki Literature Club. At the bottom of the list is “Properties.” Once you’re there, go to “LOCAL FILES” and then select “BROWSE LOCAL FILES.”

When you get an ending, the only thing that changes is the ending itself, not the entire game, which means;

  • Sayori will still hang herself in the first act.
  • Yuri will still stab herself in the second act.
  • Monika will still delete herself in the third act.

And this also means, whether or not you get the good or bad ending, which means whether or not everyone will be deleted by Monika because of Sayori;

  • The ending changes
  • The ending note changes

And this also means that Sayori will ALWAYS hang herself in the premature endings if you delete monika.chr or sayori.chr from the files.
