Overview
This guide lists the location of all collectible items and upgrades available in the game. While this is not a 100% guide or complete story walkthrough, finding all the items in this guide should make it more likely to get all achievements.
Introduction
This guide applies to both the Steam and Switch releases.
This is a guide lists the locations of all items that can be found in the game. While this isn’t specifically a 100% completion guide, finding everything here and completing the game is likely to result in unlocking all achievements.
The overworld is an 11×7 grid. I use a simple reference system to point out where items are on the map, using A-K for the column and 1-7 for the row, where A1 is in the upper left and K7 is in the lower right. For inside areas, the coordinate will be the entry area on the overworld.
If you haven’t completed the game or still want to look for things on your own then you probably don’t want to read this, as it will give away many details of the game.
Thank you to those in the community who helped catch some errors in an earlier version and to the devs who not only brought us this game but also helped tie up some loose ends in the details. The full discussion can be found here. And thanks to Daisy for reporting that the guide is compatible with the Switch release.
Update 7 March 2018: Some minor reorganization, and added information about drop items and where to trade them.
Update 5 April 2018: The heart piece, energy crystal, and scroll sections have been reordered to be consistent with the 100% Walkthrough guide.
Hearts
Lily starts with 3 hearts, and will max out at 20. 5 full hearts are obtainable:
- Defeat Rat King (Castle Dungeon)
- Defeat Stone Golem (Runestone Temple)
- Defeat Flame Guardian (Boiling Caverns)
- Defeat Spirit of the Monks (Frostroot Shrine)
- Complete the post office delivery quest
There are 48 heart pieces located around the land for 12 additional hearts:
- Castle barracks <F4>: The bed in the upper right can be dragged to reveal a chest.
- Blossom Town <G4>: Four quintuplets’ house: Look in the chest.
- Blossom Town <G5>: Jar collector’s house: There’s a small house with jars stacked outside. Enter and find the place filled to the brim with jars. Locate the chest toward the lower left corner and open it. For bonus dialog, you can choose to smash all the jars.
- Blossom Town <G5>: Near Carmine’s house is a large rock that can be bombed. Jump into the hole and claim a piece.
- Blossom Town <F4>: Talk to Gambling Gabby in the house just above and to the left of an Orchid I statue. Play her game to win prizes. Since it costs 30 gold each attempt, you’ll probably need to come back later with gold to spare.
- Blossom Town <F4>: Play Gambling Gabby’s chest game.
- Blossom Town shop <F5>: While it may be possible to acquire this sooner, you probably won’t have enough gold to spend before this point. Buy for 250 gold.
- Outside Blossom Castle <F5>: Immediately after exiting the gate, check the woods to the right for a hidden passage. Follow it around and up to a chest in a small clearing.
- Stan the Merchant <E6>: Stan is a merchant who has camps scattered about the world, and this is the first one you’ll encounter. He’ll only appear between the hours of 9AM and 5PM, based on your PC’s current time. If you haven’t bought it at this location, it will be available anywhere you run into him. It costs 100 gold.
- South Blossom <F7>: Win the first race course. Reach the end before time expires and claim the piece.
- South Blossom <D7>: Look around above the ferryman’s dock and find a cracked wall. Bomb it to get inside and claim a piece.
- Golem’s Haven <B6>: Solve the 3 button puzzle to get a prize chest. See below for more information on button puzzles.
- Golem’s Haven <D5>: Jump into the hole in the ground and talk to the fairy.
- Golem’s Haven <B5>: This is the first of the three ancient statues, and arguably the easiest to miss. Find the hidden path inside Stan’s camp and talk to the statue.
- Runestone Temple <A5>: Find a room that looks like a mouse, a head and two big ears. Bomb the cracked wall at the top of the right ear and go inside.
- Blossom Town <G4>: Go to the Bouncing Flower Inn. Find the table in the lower left that can be dragged and move it to expose a hole. Jump in and use the bow to activate all three targets at once. This will be easier to accomplish with the Tri-Bow upgrade.
- Golem’s Haven shop <B7>: Buy for 250 gold.
- Golem’s Haven <A6>: Talk to the Tree Lord and he will tell you there are ten tree spirits that need to be freed from a curse. Eight are inside the dungeon, one is in <B6>, and one is in <C6>. Use weapons against them to cure them and each one will refill your health. Talk to the Tree Lord again when all ten have been cured.
- Stan the Merchant <E6>: Stan will offer a second heart piece for 80 gold. He has a few more items to sell before offering the second piece.
- Golem’s Haven <C6>: A rock blocks a doorway in the hillside. Bomb it and solve the puzzle inside.
- South Blossom <E7>: Find a rock surrounded by white flowers and bomb it. Jump in the hole and claim a piece.
- Bandit Camp <G6>: Just beyond the entrance is a large rock. Bomb it and fall into the cave below. In the center chest is a heart piece.
- Bandit Camp <H6>: Defeat Bandit Ninja or Pirate Queen, depending on which one you choose.
- Gasping Marshes <I7>: There’s a hole in the ground next to the Archaeologist. He’ll tell you she won’t talk to him, but if you go inside, she’ll give you a heart piece.
- Gasping Marshes <J7>: You’ll get something each time you throw money into the well, with the price increasing each time. At 500 gold, you’ll receive a heart piece.
- Gasping Marshes <K7>: This is the second of three ancient statues. Find a hidden path in the woods and talk to the statue to get a piece. If you encounter the Archaeologist first, he’ll provide a hint that it’s there.
- Boiling Caverns <K5>: A long horizontal hallway leads to the final boss of the dungeon. On the right end is a cracked wall. Bomb it and find a piece inside.
- Castle Dungeon <F4>: After defeating Rat King, return to the dungeon and bomb the cracked wall in the first room with a chest.
- North Blossom <H2>: Toward the upper left is a large rock surrounded by flowers. Use a bomb, then drop in to solve a puzzle for another piece of heart.
- North Blossom <H1>: Win Sage the Mage’s singing stones game.
- North Blossom <E2>: Win the second race course. Earlier versions had a bug allowing Lily to sneak into the course without paying the entry fee, but this has been fixed.
- North Blossom <F3>: On the upper area is a large rock surrounded by flowers. Approach from the east or west side and bomb in to grab a heart piece.
- Winterthaw <D2>: In one house, a man talks about having a secret basement. Move the table to expose a hole. Jump in and race the collapsing floor. This is probably the most challenging heart piece to acquire. Beware of the bat halfway down on the left side.
- North Blossom <C4>: Bomb the cracked wall just above the east entrance.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Win the first round of the archery game. Take your time and lead your shots.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: In the North Council, the head Council Lady tells you her mother is sick. Donate a health potion and she’ll give you a heart piece in return.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Just before the exit to the cemetery is a house where four villagers live. Be a rude guest and snoop in their chest.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Enter James’ house. In the upper left is a table. Drag it out of the way to reveal a chest.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Dr. Zombehz is trying to find a cure to prevent necromancers from using dead bodies (or so he claims). He will give you a heart piece for the first 20 brains you give him.
- Frostroot Shrine <G1>: Above the room with the 8-block sliding puzzle is a corridor where zombies spawn. In the middle is a cracked wall. Bomb it and head inside to collect a piece.
- Gasping Marshes <J6>: Return here after winning the Magic Shoes in the third race to solve the 2-button puzzle. There are no items around you can place on the buttons, so you should be able to think of another way to do it.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Buy a piece for 250 gold.
- North Blossom <E3>: Bomb the rock to reveal a hole. Inside are four glyph stones. Set them to the correct order to get the heart piece. This can be done earlier with brute force, but a hint is available outside — use the fire spell to burn vines hiding glyphs.
- Wastelands <K4>: This is the third of the three ancient statues. Talk to the Ancient Axeman and he’ll give you a heart piece.
- Wastelands <I3>: There’s a hole in the raised area near the center. Fall in and get a heart piece.
- Wastelands <I4>: Solve the 4-button puzzle to reveal a chest. Most of the buttons are hidden under obstacles that need to be cleared.
- North Blossom <H3>: The Botanist will trade you a piece for ingredients to make fertilizer. Since one of these is a skull, you won’t be able to get this piece until you’ve made your way into the cave that leads to the Wastelands.
- Blossom Town <G4>: If you talked to William earlier, he’s told you that he’s an actor and he needs a skull. You can get one from an orc in the cave leading to the Wastelands, or in the Wastelands.
Button Puzzles
Necessary for collecting all hearts, there are four multi-button puzzles scattered around the land. All have a similar solution: Figure out how to press all the buttons at the same time. Where to find:
- <E6> South Blossom – 4 buttons, awards a random loot chest
- <B6> Golem’s Haven – 3 buttons, awards a heart piece
- <J6> Gasping Marshes – 2 buttons, awards a heart piece
- <I4> Wastelands – 4 buttons (some hidden), awards a heart piece
Energy
Lily starts with a moderate amount of energy but can gain upgrades. One full energy upgrade can be obtained by finding all of Elissa’s scrolls, and four more upgrades can be obtained by collecting crystals around the world:
- Castle dungeon <F4>: Bomb the wall behind the chest where you got the bombs. Go into Crocus’ hidden lair, and open the chest in the upper left.
- Blossom Town <E5>: Just above Lily’s house is an unoccupied house blocked by rocks. Bomb the obstacle and find a chest inside.
- Blossom Town <F4>: Play Gambling Gabby’s chest game.
- Blossom Town <F4>: Play Gambling Gabby’s chest game.
- Golem’s Haven <B7>: The rightmost house on the middle tier has a chest containing an energy crystal.
- Golem’s Haven shop <B7>: Buy one in the shop for 250 gold.
- Runestone Temple <A5>: You will find yourself barred in a room with bandits. Bomb the cracked wall and go in to collect an energy crystal.
- Golem’s Haven <B7>: The Fletcher will give you an energy crystal for the first 20 feathers you give him.
- Blossom Town shop <F5>: Buy one in the shop for 250 gold.
- South Blossom <H7>: Pass through the lumberjack camp to find a path blocked by webs. Cut through the webs and go east to find a rock. Bomb the rock and go inside. Follow a long path to get to the energy crystal. You’ll exit on a hillside in South Blossom.
- Gasping Marshes <I5>: Scarrel the witch will give you an energy crystal for the first 20 souls you give her.
- Gasping Marshes <J7>: You’ll get something each time you throw money into the well, with the price increasing each time. At 250 gold, you’ll get an energy crystal.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Win the second round of the archery game. It’s similar to the first round, but the targets and shields move a bit faster.
- Snowy Summit <C3>: A long path winds through the woods and leads to a monastery. Speak to the disciple inside and he’ll give you an energy crystal.
- Snowy Summit <C1>: A lone hermit needs some sun. Give him a Sunshine in a Bottle and he’ll give you an energy crystal in return.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Buy an energy crystal in the shop for 250 gold. This crystal doesn’t appear in the store initially. You’ll need to buy items here and possibly in other stores before it becomes available. (Credit to Desticler for bringing this to my attention.)
Scrolls
- Blossom Town <F4>: Enter the abandoned house. Drag the cot to reveal a hole. Jump in and open the chests.
- Blossom Town <E5>: A bit above Lily’s house is a house with a girl who talks about her father. Look in the chest next to the bed.
- Golem’s Haven <B7>: One house has hedges lining the path to the doorway. Go inside and get the scroll from the chest.
- Golem’s Haven <B7>: Buy the scroll in the shop for 100 gold.
- Golem’s Haven <C5>: A shallow path through the water leads to a waterfall. Step into the waterfall and play a singing stones game to obtain the scroll.
- Runestone Temple <A5>: At the top of a vertical spike ball gauntlet room is a cracked wall. Bomb it and go inside.
- Runestone Temple <A5>: A chest sits against the upper wall of the first room of cursed trees. Open it to get another part of Elissa’s tale.
- South Blossom <G7>: Open the chest by the tents in the lumberjack camp.
- South Blossom <E7>: Bomb the lone rock to uncover a chest.
- Gasping Marshes <J7>: You’ll get something each time you throw money into the well, with the price increasing each time. At 100 gold, you’ll get a scroll.
- Gasping Marshes <K6>: A chest slightly obscured by cattails sits below a tree.
- Boiling Caverns <K5>: One room is a long serpentine hallway that leads up then down then back up. Near the exit is a cracked wall. Bomb it for another scroll.
- South Blossom <D6>: Just east of the river a rock blocks a doorway. Bomb it and head inside. Use the bow to light all the pyres.
- North Blossom <G3>: Jump into the open hole. Use the boomerang to trigger all the switches at once, which lowers the gate.
- North Blossom <B4>: On the screen east of the base of the lift is an open hole in the ground up on a ledge. Go east to C4 and get to the ledge by going up the stairs.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Open the chest in the North Chapel.
- Pinecone Village <A2>: Open the chest in the North Council.
- Frostroot Shrine <G1>: A few rooms after defeating Ice Worm, follow a long horizontal hallway west. At the far end is a cracked wall. You know what to do.
- North Blossom <G2>: After lowering the gate inside the Wastelands passage, bomb the three sarcophagi. The rightmost one hides a chest.
- Wastelands <K3>: Barrels hide a chest. Move them or bomb them to find one last scroll.
Recurring Drops
Certain enemies across the land have a chance to drop items which have multiple uses. Each has a corresponding NPC you can talk to who will trade items in groups of 20 for coins or other useful items. The NPCs will have additional dialog when you make your fifth trade with them (100 total items turned in) and will offer a bonus.
Mushroom: These are dropped by the mushroom enemies found in South Blossom, and later in North Blossom.
Trade with: Chef in the mess hall of Blossom Castle <G4>
Feather: Multiple enemies around Golem’s Haven can drop these. The explanation is that they fall from high flying birds and get stuck to monsters.
Trade with: Fletcher in Golem’s Haven <B7>
Spirit: Ghosts that haunt Gasping Marshes will drop these when you kill them.
Trade with: Scarrel the Witch at her house in Gasping Marshes <I5>
Honeycomb: Break the honeycombs and fight off the bees in North Blossom <D3> to collect these.
Trade with: Beekeeper in North Blossom <D3>.
Brain: The zombies on Snowy Summit aren’t exactly brainless idiots but they will be when you take their brains from them.
Trade with: Dr. Zombehz in Pinecone Village <A2>
Skull: Orc not like Lily! Lily smash! Lily get skull.
Trade with: Grunda at her house in The Wastelands <J4>
Equipment and Consumables
- Shield: This can be used to block many types of projectiles. Lily obtains this (along with her sword) when she gets knighted.
- Health potion: Drinking a potion restores Lily’s health to full. These can be purchased in shops, found in chests, and occasionally be excavated from dig spots.
- Bombs: Your standard explosive and all around useful tool, will consume energy when used. You first get bombs by defeating the Rat King in the Castle Dungeon, and you can make them more powerful later by paying the Bomb Maker in Winterthaw 300 gold.
- Butterfly Spirit: This item summons a butterfly familiar that will attack enemies for a short while. These can be found in dig spots (see below), but can also be obtained by talking to certain NPCs.
- Resurrection Flower: The flower will resurrect Lily and restore her health if she dies. It’s used automatically.
- Shovel: This tool can be used to dig in various spots around the world. Dig spots look like small darkened indentations in the ground and can appear in most areas of the world. Digging one of these areas can turn up Health Potions, Sunshine in a bottle, Butterfly Spirits, or coins. In Golem’s Haven <A7> you should find a small area blocked by cobwebs. Cut away the webs and jump into the hole. The archaeologist should be there and will tell you he lost his shovel and wants you to help him find it. There’s a minor puzzle to cross an open space, but it’ll be in the chest, and he’ll let you keep it when you get back.
- Bow: Your standard ranged weapon, will consume energy when used. You get this by defeating the Dragon in Runestone Temple. Along with taking out enemies at a distance, it’s also necessary for solving some puzzles. The Blacksmith in Blossom Town will upgrade it to the Tri-Bow if you give him a silver ingot (available in the Golem’s Haven shop), a hand-crafted steel gear (available in the Blossom Town shop), and 20 druid feathers.
- Sunshine in a Bottle: This potion will make Lily invincible for a short period of time. This is mostly found in dig spots.
- Quake Medallion: This magical item will allow Lily to stomp with great force, damaging enemies around her. The Relic Hunter in Golem’s Haven will give it to her for a bottle of Mushroom Soup.
- Mushroom Soup: This potion instantly returns energy to full without having to wait for it to regenerate. The Chef in the castle kitchen will give Lily a bottle for every 20 mushrooms, and they can also be purchased in the Blossom Town shop.
- Necklace (passive): This charm, rumored to have been lost by the witch Scarrel, lets the wearer traverse quickly through tall grass, swamps, and other obstacles that would otherwise slow her down. Protect the Swamp Guy from ghosts while he’s cooking in Gasping Marshes, and he’ll give this to Lily.
- Boomerang: The boomerang is weapon and a tool obtained by defeating the Flame Mage in Boiling Caverns. It can be used to hit switches and to pick up items from a distance.
- Automatic Sword Slash: With this technique Lily can do a sword slash without charging up, at the cost of a bit of energy. Talk to the Knight Commander in the castle training area and he’ll offer it once Lily has killed at least 1,000 enemies.
- Bee Medallion: This magical medallion summons magical bees to attack enemies, consuming some energy — and like bees they die when striking. Give the Beekeeper in North Blossom <D4> the first 20 honeycombs to earn this medallion.
- Fire Medallion: The fire medallion spreads a ring of flames out around Lily, consuming some energy. Defeat Ice Worm in Frostroot Shrine to pick this up.
- Fireball Medallion: Use this medallion to shoot fireballs at enemies, using some energy. To find this medallion, go to the shrine above the cemetery north of Pinecone Village, in <A1>. Use the fire medallion to melt the frozen barrier.
- Magic Shoes: These shoes allow Lily to dash in the direction she’s facing, using a bit of energy. Get them by winning the third race in the Snowy Summit <B2>.
- Magnetic Ring (passive): This mythical ring will turn Lily into a walking magnet, pulling in nearby items. Find this item in North Blossom in <F2>. Use fire to burn the vines blocking the cave entrance.
- Thunder Medallion: Use energy to rain down electrical death from above. Defeat the Mage of the Black Rose in Crocus’ Fortress to gain this medallion.
- Teleport Ring: This ring lets Lily warp to any teleport stone in the world from anywhere. She gets it by defeating Crocus and winning the game.
