EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair Guide

All Loading Screen Tips for EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair

All Loading Screen Tips

Overview

Loading screens going by too quickly for you to read the info on them? Here’s an organised collection of (hopefully) all the loading tips present in the game.

Quick Intro

Tried to read some of the text that shows up during loading screens, only to suddenly find it disappeared because you loaded in nice and quickly? Here’s a compendium of all the loading screen tips present in the game, sorted by category to boot (general, class-specific, etc.)!

This guide will be updated as I find any tips I’ve missed. Any spelling errors may be intentional as I’m directly typing out the text for each loading screen (ow my hands hurt please appreciate what I’ve done here).

General

Fight a Bite
You can aim and fire even while you’re being bitten. Blow a few holes in whatever’s chewing on you, and you just might convince the creature to spit you back out.

Webs and Weapons
You can switch weapons even after you’ve been caught in a web. Aim for the webbing and go on firing until it breaks! …Just preferably not with explosives.

Using the Radar
The radar is full of information.
Red: Enemy
Blue: EDF Soldier
Green: Item
Yellow: Vehicle
White: Civilian
Circles with letters in them represent other players. The letters indicate their classes.
The radar also shows Air Raiders’ kill zones.

Escaping Entrapment
You can aim even when you’ve been caught in a web. Aim for the webbing and fire until it breaks and lets you loose.

Choosing the Proper Utensils
You can switch weapons even while you’re being bitten. Pick the best weapon for the situation (hint: not explosives) and make the enemy choke on it!

Don’t Let Them Drag You Down
Getting caught in an alien creature’s web and dragged toward the jaws of death can be demoralizing to say the least. Remember that you can still escape by destroying the webbing or the creature who created it, depending.

You’re With Me!
When you see friendly soldiers with icons over their heads, get close to recruit them. The soldiers you recruit will fall under your command and work together with you. If you recruit a team leader, the entire team will fall under your command.

Beware of Retiarius Webs
Retiarius webs are extremely dangerous. Not only can they ensnare you, but they’ll pull you toward the Retiarius with tremendous force. The only way to save yourself is to defeat the Retiarius at the other end of the web.

Multiplayer

Not Everyone Can Drive
Air Raiders and Rangers are the only ones who can drive vehicles. These two soldier classes can ride in either the pilot’s seat or the gunner’s seat. Wing Divers and Fencers cannot ride in the pilot’s seat, only in the gunner’s seat

Cutting Your Friends Loose
If you find an ally who’s been caught in a web, destroy the web immediately to save them.

Ranger

Ranger
Rangers are combat experts who can handle a wide range of weapons. These versatile soldiers can handle any situation and serve as the core of an infantry unit.
*This soldier class is the easiest to use and has the highest combat strength. If you are playing the game for the first time, you should start out by choosing this soldier class.

Medic!
By taking healing items, Rangers can heal all the soldiers under their command.

Rolling Rangers
Rangers train to make their bodies tough as steel. Colliding with objects doesn’t faze them, and any small object they happen to roll over will be destroyed.

Ranger, On Your Feet!
A Ranger’s body armor is tough, but also easy to move in. Among the four soldier classes, they’re the quickest to recover from a knockdown.

Wing Diver

Wing Diver
An all-female special forces unit equipped with jetpacks. This unit was formed as a secret weapon against giant creatures. They use high-tech armament born from extraterrestrial technology.
*This soldier class is swift and deadly. However, their low armor strength makes them particularly susceptible to attacks.

Aerial Recovery
When Wing Divers are knocked down, they can recover quickly by pressing the flight button. Be aware that this consumes energy.

Air Raider

Air Raider
The mission of the Air Raider is to coordinate air strikes and bombardments from the ground. The Air Raider annihilates the enemy by designating attack targets and ordering explosive strikes. Air Raiders can call in bombers, artillery, cruise missiles and even vehicle drops.
*This soldier class is for intermediate players. Because the main purpose of this soldier class is to assist allies, it is best suited for cooperative gameplay. You should probably select this soldier class after you’ve gained a certain degree of familiarity with the game.

Wide Open Spaces
Be sure to request vehicles in clear, open areas. Otherwise, your vehicle may get caught on buildings or other terrain.

Where Credits are Due
To reload air raids and vehicle drop requests, you need credits. You’ll accumulate credits as your team defeats enemies.

Fencer

Fencer
A heavily armed soldier fully equipped with a power frame and armor. Thanks to their power frames, this soldier class is capable of equipping enormous weapons. Also, this soldier class can carry separate weapons in both arms and wield both of them at the same time.
*This soldier class is for advanced players. Its controls are different than those of other soldier classes, and playing this class well requires learning several new techniques. Mastery of this class will grant players terrifying power, but the path to mastery is very challenging.

Thrust, Parry, SMASH!
Fencers’ armor gives them mass equivalent to a small car. Any small objects they hit, such as guard rails, will be demolished.

A Fencer’s Riposte
If a fencer is armed with at least one thruster dash or boost jump-enabled weapon, they can use that dash or jump to recover from a fall just before they hit the ground. Be aware that this maneuver requires very precise timing,

Understanding Shields
A Fencer’s shield is an extremely useful piece of equipment, but it has its drawbacks. Shields reduce their users’ walking speed while being brandished, and they can only block attacks from certain angles (which can vary depending on the shield’s make and model).

Dual-Use Weapons
Some weapons used by Fencers have two different functions. For example, if you have a vibro-drive hammer in your right hand, not only can you use it to attack by pressing the right-hand attack button, you can also use it for a thrust-dash by pressing the right-hand equipment use button.
