All the Possible Employment Status for Viscera Cleanup Detail

All the Possible Employment Status

Overview

I didn’t see a guide with the reports and notes for each employment status after cleaning up a level, so I figured I’d make one myself.

Is this you?

Are you a strong or a weak janitor? How well you clean a level dictates your employment status.

For the most part this is cosmetic but if you manage to get the fired status or below everything you have been collecting in the office will be removed, essentially meaning you packed your stuff (or the company trashed everything you owned) and a new janitor has been assigned to your office.

During normal “cleanup” mode you have no means of checking your completion rate until you clock off but during speedrun mode you can check at the punchomatic anytime you want. Pressing the “Keep Working” button will let you check your completion rate later but pressing “Great” ends the level and sends you to the main screen.

You will not lose your collected stuff if you play in speedrun mode.

On an online or LAN game (local split-screen doesn’t count) if a cleaning crew of more than one janitor were to get fired only the host of the server will have their office cleared out but they can set up game rules before starting a game to prevent griefing and even kick or ban during gameplay. This also means if the crew gets employee of the month only the host gets rewarded with a plaque.

Employee of the Month | 100% or above

Gameplay effects:

  • Rewarded with “Employee of the Month” plaque.
  • Keep trophies and anything you have or had brought to the office.
  • Unlock any achievements in the game.
  • Keep your indubitable fidelity to Aerospace Sanitation Inc.
  • Dishonor the spirit of Bob, he will haunt you in the workplace from now on.

Promoted | 95% to 99%

Gameplay effects:

  • Keep trophies and anything you have or had brought to the office.
  • Unlock any achievements in the game.

Demoted | 70% to 94%

Gameplay effects:

  • Keep trophies and anything you have or had brought to the office. Getting demoted again will not result in being fired.
  • Can NOT unlock level completion achievements, you need to get 95% at least.

Fired | -25% to 69%

Gameplay effects:

  • Your trophies and anything you brought to the office gets deleted the next time you load the level but doors remain unlocked.

Company Liquidated | -24% or below

Gameplay effects:

  • Your trophies and anything you brought to the office gets deleted the next time you load the level but doors remain unlocked.
  • Aerospace Sanitation Inc. shuts down, panic arises in the galaxy.
  • Eternal gratitude from Bob, he will buy you a cold one in the afterlife.

Speedrun Mode & Hidden 6th Status

Since speedrun mode does not send you back to the office your status is displayed on the punch-o-matic screen in an abridged form with different terms. There is also an additional status below Company Liquidated that will only show up if you seriously wreck the place.

In this mode the tallying of your score works different, it uses a combination of time spent and cleanliness achieved. This essentially means that you can obtain an employment status outside of its regular range if you’re cleaning fast enough. This is more noticeable when getting demoted.

This nuance might or might not be affected by the time allowance slider in game rules. From my tests using the default game rules and cleaning under 20 minutes I was able to get demoted at 4x% instead of 70%, you can see the results in the next section.

Employee of the Month & Promoted
Demoted (under 70%) & Fired
Company Liquidated & Company Terminated From Orbit (the hidden status)

Addendum: Lowest Demoted%

These are just the results I gathered from investigating how status work in speedrun mode, they should be the lowest % you can get away with unless you dedicate serious time to speedrunning.

One thing to note and you will see, is that you can perfectly achieve both demoted and fired at the same percentage. This is partially because of what was explained before, but also due to cleanliness values actually being decimal despite being truncated in-game.

I’m a VCD speedrunner so you might see better times and more levels in the future but I personally mainly run what I call “Best%” so don’t expect to see new Demoted%’s frequently.
