Altina Without Tights for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III

Altina Without Tights

Overview

As the title says, this is a MOD to remove Altina Orion’s leggings. And various other character edits – Requires Special K MOD “guide included”

Introduction.

Hello all!
So as usual I do a few personal edits to most of my games, and as I was playing around with the uv maps I thought it would be interesting to see if I could color Altina’s Tights.

Well it didn’t look half bad so I figured I would share it with anyone that wants it.

3/31/2021 Big Update!

Ok so first thing I should mention here is I had to throw out all my previous work on these textures due to an error in how I was rendering them. (except Emma Without Tights *may redo that one later)
So if you are an EXSISTING USER of my textures you will have to download them again from the links below.

In having to redo them I have also improved them. As well as adding a few new ones, with potentially more on the way.

Sorry it has taken me this long to complete this guide but, I hope everyone who uses it enjoys the work I have done fixing it up.

What you need.

First thing is to download & install Special K Global Injector. (SKIM)

Here is a Guide for that

Once you have done that or are already a user, please continue reading as there are some specific settings to apply to CSIII.

Make sure you have launched the game with the injector at least once to make sure all foldersfiles are created.

Download Instructions

Download the files you want and unzip them into the following folder.
(if the path does not exist create it.)

Ex.
C:UsersYOUR USER NAMEDocumentsMy ModsSpecialKProfilesThe Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel IIISK_Resinjecttexturesed8_3_PC.exe

Make sure to run SKIM(Special K) and start the injector before playing.

Alternatively

If you don’t want to bother running SKIM every time you start playing. You can create a custom wrapper for the specific game. This is covered in the above guide for Special K but I’ll highlight it briefly here.

Originally posted by Aemony:
  1. Ensure that SKIM is running and that global injection has been started.
  2. Launch the game you want to convert to a local wrapper.
  3. While in-game, open the control panel of Special K (Ctrl + Shift + Backspace).
  4. Open the File menu and click on Install wrapper DLL for this game:

  5. What this does is automatically create the appropriate [graphicsAPI].dll file in the folder of the game executable as well as a SpecialK.central file that tells the local wrapper to use the game profile in the DocumentsMy ModsSpecialKProfiles[executable].exe folder.
  6. Restart the game to use the new local wrapper instead.

The directory for injected textures will also change so be sure to move the files to this location.

Other Special K configuration & troubleshooting.

In the following folder is the configuration file for instructions Special K is using to render the game and inject textures.

C:UsersYOUR USER NAMEDocumentsMy ModsSpecialKProfilesThe Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel IIIdxgi.ini

I am going to add a few things here that I have set to run the game smoothly and potentially assist anyone who may be having a few issues launching or displaying things properly. Have a look down this file and set it to your system specifications.

With your text editor of choice (notepad is just fine) right click and open dxgi.ini
use CTRL+F to find specific lines. Also remember to save and make sure CSIII is closed when editing this file.

Under the bracket [Window.System] are some settings to tell the game how to render the window.
Example I had noticed that the screen was cut off around the boarder, so to fix this I changed these values…

“Center=true”

“OverrideRes=1920×1080”

And that fixed the weird crop that was happening to me. So if you have specific resolutions or want to force say “Borderless=true” You can do that from here.

Another thing that happened was I had noticed I couldn’t open Steam overlay or use screenshots.

Under [Steam.System] set the command “PreLoadSteamOverlay=true”

If Textures are not injecting and you have the above folders set you may need to check the line under [Textures.D3D11] and set “Inject=true”

For those of you who wish to pull your own textures for editing make sure to set “AllowUnsafeRefCounting=true” under the [Textures.Cache] section.

Then while in game use CTRL+SHIFT+BKSpace to open the Special K api menu and navigate to “render mod tools” I would recommend looking up a guide if you are new to this process.
You will also need a program that can edit .DDS files like Paint(dot)net or Gimp.

CSIII DDS textures are saved as BC7 (Linear, DX11+) make sure to check the box for generate mip maps.

Final thoughts.

Sorry if this seems a bit long. I would have liked to pull the textures directly, but my tools for decoding the games files are not up to speed yet and I’m not skilled enough to do it myself.

Special K is a good tool nonetheless, I use it in several games as it allows me to take full advantage of my system. CSIII is a well done port on its own and I am able to max the game out on all settings @1080p 60* with my two 980s in SLI. Even in the problem areas I can’t say I’ve seen my frame counter drop and my system is pretty dated at this point.
So even if you don’t use any of my textures I highly recommend trying Special K if you haven’t. It may just give you that extra push in performance you need, Plus its free.

Anyways, I always have a lot of fun doing these things so please enjoy my little contribution.
I look forward to CSIV releasing though at this time I don’t have any texture ideas in mind.
