Analogue: A Hate Story Guide

Analogue: A complete-ish guide.

Overview

Hello world. This is my first attempt at writing a guide, so please, be gentle with me.This guide will include all major parts of beating Analogue: A Love Story, so if you want to avoid spoilers, leave now. You have been warned. For further explanations, start reading.

Introduction and Basics

First I’d like to thank you for reading this, even though this is my first guide.
I apologize for not having added any pictures, as I simply didn’t think of writing a guide when I first played. I will probably add those later on. (Years later: Well, apparently that was a lie, sorry. <3)

So, all of you who have decided to read this, obviously want to beat the game.
To do that, you only need to reach the 5 different endings this game offers, which actually isn’t all that hard. Especially if you follow some advice.

1. Don’t be lazy, read every file you can get your hands on and show them to the active AI. If you do this, reaching 100% is a piece of cake. It’s how I handled the game, which also means that I can’t give detailed explanations as to how to get certain files.

2. Talk to that AI, it’s fun and sometimes you get information and/or progress in the story.

As for the controls… mouse and keyboard. Why keyboard? Because you’ll have to use the ship’s override terminal, at times. Don’t be scared, it’s easy. Just using the “help” command will give you any info needed. If not, try “help [command]” which will give you a detailed explanation of your commands. Use it. Seriously.

That’s it for the most part. Which is why I won’t give you a step by step walkthrough, because getting the choices and interactions right, really is easy.

And I’ll stop rambling now and get serious.

Ah, wait.. whenever I mention a terminal “command”, you obviously type it without the quotation marks.

So, now you can read on.

The Beginning

Okay, after you’ve started a new game, you’ll be prompted with the ship’s (can’t remember that name for the soul of my cat) override terminal. It will tell you some status information and so on.

The only thing you need to do here right now is to get the AI running again, so you have any chance of getting what you want: the logs. To do that, you need two things: the command and the AI’s Name. The command is already stated there, use your brain, if not use “help”.

It’s “enable_ai”, nice job. Type that, hit enter and after a few seconds the terminal will present you with the list of available AI’s. Which is only one at the moment. The terminal doesn’t care for capital letters and such, by the way. Well, we now know that our AI is named *Hyun Ae, and we got the command, so what do we do? Combine ’em. “enable_ai hyun ae” and your AI should be running.
Exit the override terminal as stated via the “quit” command. Note that using the Esc button won’t work. Annoying, but that’s how it is.

Now your AI will boot up and tell you everything else you might wanna know.

The Meltdown

This part actually doesn’t happen until you are pretty far into the game, so if you want your guide on how to get an ending, this isn’t important to you, for now, as you will be sure to run into this little nervewrecker. So why don’t read it now? Well, spoilers of course.

Okay, back on topic:
The Meltdown is a scenario in which you will have to keep the ship’s reactor from going BOOM. It will appear shortly after *Mute has given you the set of questions for *Hyun Ae. This will be indicated by static spreading over the screen. NOTE that it is highly important, which of the AI’s you have active, as you won’t be able to change to the other one for the rest of the entire game once the Meltdown truly begins. While the static is there, you have a bit of time to change to your desired AI before the sequence locks in.

Once the desired AI is selected it will tell you about the ship’s reactor acting up and a 20 minute timer will appear. You now have 20 minutes to solve the problem or go BOOM. But don’t panic, I’ll show you how to survive.

After the AI has finished talking, we know what needs to be done: the reactor must be shutdown, which sounds easier than it is.
Go to the override terminal.

First we need to make sure that, once the reactor is down, we still have energy to power the computers and AI’s. We need the emergency energy system operational. Type “pss enable” to do this…. but, what’s this? The selected main battery is at 0.1% power? Damn. Ah, but the secondary one still has 20%? Let’s switch then. “pss switch_battery”. Still… the ship is currently running at 99% power usage, because it powered everything up when we made contact. We can’t down the reactor like this. We need to get the power usage below 20%.

To do this, type “power_control list” which will give you a detailed listing of all systems working and not working right now. Look there, a ton of useless crap is running, someone forgot to turn all that off after every living thing on board died. We’re gonna do that now, though.
“power_control disable core3 core4 core5 core6 docking gravity” followed by
“power_control disable rail sensors waste” should do the trick… almost.
Of the remaining systems, you still need the coms, the main computer and at least one AI core, and it would be wise to let the bulkheads stay active, too. It’ll save you time. So.. that leaves us with.. yep, we need to disable one of the two AI cores, meaning shutting one of the two girls down forever.
And it would be dumb to shut down the AI currently in use so you disable the inactive one.
“power_control disable core1 / core2” should do the job. You will be prompted with a confirmation message. Type “y”, hit enter. Done. You’re below 20% energy usage and can now finally use the following: “reactor disable”, again confirm with “y”, enter.

Congratulations, you just saved your precious crapping-tool and that of the AI, too…. or wait… not. The timer is still running, Meltdown part two. Your AI will tell you that the reactor won’t go BOOOM anymore, but it’s reached critical temperature, which is damaging the AI core. You need to cool that damn thing off, quick, or your companion cube will be roasted. Think hard, let the AI spoil the answer or just do what I tell you, it all means the same.
Enter the override panel once again.

Here you will have to power the life support again by using “power_control enable life_support”.
And now? Well.. it’s not particulary useful, right? Wrong. You can use the air circulation to transport the heated air… where to? How about, outer space? You don’t need an atmosphere on the ship right now. Basically, open the bulkheads. “power_control disable bulkheads” will do this, and the hot air will vent. Problem solved, and the artificial girl will be oh so grateful to you.

And that’s The Meltdown. Annoying and nervewrecking if you don’t know how to do it. Which is why I explained it so thoroughly. Anyway, you can now continue.

Ending #1, Hyun Ae ~ Friend

This ending is pretty easy to achieve. Just be nice to Hyun, agree to whatever her opinion of something is and so on. Well… it is easy if you can turn your morale off at times, to follow through, but don’t worry, the way she tells the story makes that easy for you.
Ah! And you should pay her a lot of attention… not that she gives you a choice there… well actually she does.. but yeah you get the picture.
Oh, and of course: choose her in the Meltdown.
Once she finally confesses her love, reject her.
Ouch! You just friendzoned her.
After she decompiles, take her with you, when you download the logs.

Addition: I noticed that it seems like there is more than one way to achieve this ending. Try around.

Ending #2, Hyun Ae ~ Love

This is basically the same as Ending #1. Be nice to Hyun, agree with her opinions.
Kill your own morale, be amused at how cute she can be despite… naw too much spoiler.
Oh, and of course: choose her in the Meltdown.
Once she confesses, accept her feelings and agree to taking things slow.
Congratz, you just got a real waifu. Respect.
Of course, once she decompiles, take her with you when you download.

Ending #3, None of them

This is even easier than the first two endings.
Basically, once Hyun re-enables admin access, you go into the override terminal, log in as admin and type “download”. Validate the following question (“y”) and there you go.
You downloaded the logs and just left both AI-Girls.
How cruel can you be?

Addition: So, it seems like if you fail to make either girl fall for you by the end of the game, you won’t be able to download either one. Just as an incentive to try alternate ways of getting this end.

Ending #4, Mute

This one is a little bit trickier than the other ones.
But only slightly. Basically, instead of choosing Hyun for the Meltdown, you choose Mute, and agree with her in every point after the meltdown.
(Addition: I think I missed that, when she gives you the set of questions, you direct them at *Mute and have her explain.)
Then you can take her with you… well “kidnap” her. Because she is the ship’s security system she can’t actually say that she wants to leave… so she goes with real obvious implications.
How tsundere can she get?

Edit: It seems like this ending requires you to have chosen to be a male at the end, this is not the case as I have been made aware. By unlocking Block 2 of the logs and hitting on Mute it is possible to download her as a female protagonist. If you chose to be female earlier in the game, and change that decision later in the game, this specific course of action will result in an achievement.

Ending #5, Both of them

This is the most difficult of the 5 endings and actually requires some wit.
You could call it cheating… but it’s not really hidden, you just don’t notice, so… I’m not sure.
Anyway.
You follow the path for Ending #4, meaning you choose Mute for the Meltdown and agree with her after that. At one point then, she will ask if there’s anything left you want to show her. Choose the “yes” answer.
This is where it gets witty/cheaty.
You need to show her the very last diary entry of the Pale Bride. If you’ve played Ending #1 or #2, you know which one.
But how to get it in this setup?
Hyun is locked out, but you’d need to follow her route to get that entry.
Well.. if you take a closer look at the Block overview, you will see that you can search for entries based on their ID. Even the ones you haven’t unlocked in this gameplay. The ID for the entry you need… go find it yourself. … … … Just kidding, here it is: 7-EUX25
Search that ID and show the file to Mute. After that, stuff happens and you end up with both of them.
That is, if you decide to download them along with the logfiles, of course.

Afterword

Congratulations, if you’ve done as I said, you should have all 5 endings, 100% and most of the achievements. If not, review and try again. (Years later: Yeeaaah, I may have been too optimistic about the 100% here. I’m sorry.)

I actually had fun writing this guide and I’ll hope it comes in handy for some of you.
If there are any issues, suggestions, feedback and so on, drop it in the comments, I’d like to know what you guys think.

Thanks, good luck and have fun
