Crypt of the NecroDancer Guide

Aria final boss guide/tips. for Crypt of the NecroDancer

Aria final boss guide/tips.

Overview

Wanted to make a quick guide with some tips for beating the final boss for Aria.

Room layout and dangers.

Gargoyles
Now if you’re only seeing this boss for the first time the walls filled with gargoyles might freak you out, don’t worry about them too much since one of them attack at every 8th beat and take one more beat to use their fireball then their normal variants.
Just be sure to keep an eye out on either side at all times so you know which one attacks, the first one always seem to be near the bottom though.

Spawners
These will be your first priority when you start the fight but let’s get back to that in a bit.
The only thing you really need to worry about is if these spawn skeleton knights, if they don’t then you can sort of walk around the enemies for now, a good thing to note though is that a headless skeleton will keep the left spawner from making more enemies.

The Golden Lute
The Lute moves it’s head every other beat much like a blue bat does but only moves within three squares in front, and three inside itself, every 8th beat it moves all of the body instead in whatever direction you are, unless you are close to the bottom wall (then it’ll move back).
The boss itself, it really isn’t much of a danger by itself but it does have a fireball much like the red dragon if you stand on either side of it when the head is further out.
Now the attacks it does if you hit it I’ll cover later.

Update! I found out that you can hit the lute without losing your multiplier, making it possible to hit the body of it instead of using the floor traps.

Floor Traps
Those are there to help you with skeleton knights and attacking the lute by not moving for a beat, more on that later.

Attacking the Lute and it’s responses.

Basic response from the Lute
Now the first thing you’ll notice when you attack the Lute is that it will start to move it’s head every beat instead of every other, be sure to back away after each hit you do unless you attack it when the head is on the left/right side.
This state will last for 12 beats and once it ends one of the responses will happend.

Hitting hard, dealing 4 damage with 2 blows
Now the best (and easiest) way to kill this boss is to attack it twice before it recovers, by doing so you’ll deal 3 damage with the 2nd hit and make it back away, keep in mind that this will instantly trigger one of the responses.
You know those traps? By jumping on one of those (not moving) after hitting the Lute you are set up so you can move to a spot where you can hit it again, basically the head of the lute will act like a grey/red bat and as long as you avoid getting hit by it’s body you’ll be in range to hit it.

Responses, what are they? How do they work?
The way the Lute responds is in one of three ways.
-Confusion spell
-Spawn red and green dragon*
-Gargoyl fireball wave

*Will be red and blue 2nd time.

Now these attacks will happend in order so the confusion spell is always the first responce followed by the dragons.
Now I’m gonna go into detail of each response.

Confusion Spell
Simple enough, flipped movement for eight beats.

Dragons
Two dragons spawn at least 2 blocks away from you (I think), it’s always a red and green the first time but if you get them a 2nd time the green turned into a blue one, you don’t want to have to deal with that.
Being able to kill dragons in a 2×2 square really helps with this part.

Gargoyl fireball wave
All of the gargoyls will start attacking one after another starting from the top, just move side to side and move up at the right time to avoid getting hit.

Golden lute quick kill

This is just something I feel like this guide has been missing, it’s a very consistant way of beating the lute so I feel like it’s worth throwing in here.
Note: I do not take credit for the video, feel free to check out more of his stuff https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPtENXmB2z92pb8KTsklthg.

Final words.

This is my first guide I’ve ever written, I do hope it will help some people if only to reduce the amount of deaths you might have while praticing the Lute.

As for any spelling errors/terrible advice, post a comment and I might fix it. 😉
