Automatically Injecting the Alias Isolation Mod Through Steam for Alien: Isolation

Automatically Injecting the Alias Isolation Mod Through Steam

Overview

How to automatically inject the Alias Isolation mod upon launching the game through Steam

Introduction

Everyone knows the anti-aliasing solutions within Alien Isolation are dreadful. In 2016, an injector .dll was created to address this called “Alias Isolation”, which people have been using for many years.

Later versions of the mod require you to launch the GUI interface for the mod before the game loads and boot the game through it that way. However, it seems like some time in mid-late 2020, the mod stopped working in the way it was intended. Users discovered the workaround was to exit out of Steam completely and have the Injector GUI load up Steam, and then the game, or else it wouldn’t work. This is obviously not ideal.

As someone who very much prefers convenience, I just wanted a way to boot the game through Steam like I normally would, and have it automatically inject the Alias Isolation .dll file and do its magic without me needing to close Steam and use a third party GUI. After a bit of research, I found a way to do just this, and can confirm as of April 11th, 2021, it works wonderfully.

This guide is taken from a set of instructions found on http://shttps://www.reddit.com/r/alienisolation/comments/krzt2l/howto_run_aliasisolation_without_steam_restart/[http//shttps]

Instructions

The first thing you’ll want to do is ensure your in-game settings are set to correctly support the mod. In your video settings, ensure anti-aliasing is set to SMAA T1x, Chromatic abberation is disabled, and that motion blur is enabled.

Next, download the latest (last?) version of the Alias Isolation mod. You can download it by clicking here.[github.com]

Extract the contents of the aliasIsolation-1.0.6 folder to your Alien Isolation installation directory. In my case, this is: D:SteamsteamappscommonAlien Isolation

With these files in place, all that’s left to do is edit the launch options for the game within Steam. Right click the game on your Steam library and click Properties. In the Launch Options field, type the following (making sure the path reflects your installation directory)

“D:SteamsteamappscommonAlien IsolationaliasIsolationInjector.exe” “D:SteamsteamappscommonAlien Isolation” %command%

*this is all one string, but may appear to be multiple lines due to webpage formatting

Conclusion

And that’s it! Booting the game through Steam as you would normally should now automatically apply the Alias Isolation mod. You will know if it’s taken affect when you get into the game and see an “ALIAS ISOLATION” watermark in the top left corner briefly.

The only downside to this is that it sacrifices the option of launching with Matti Hietanen’s Cinematic Tools. If there’s a way to enable this, please let me know in the comments.

I’ve attached a few screenshots early on in the game that I captured using this mod. It’s hard to believe a game from 2014 still looking as good as it does!
