Overview
I’m bored and I figured that I would make a Guide for new people who have NEVER played this game before to help new players get an easy and understandable edge on how to play this game more efficiently. Please note that this is a Poorly put together by me and that I did this out of boredom and completely from memory so if its got mistakes then feel free to KINDLY point them out to me.
Selecting a Difficulty…
When you start and Select “New Game” you will be given the option to pick between Easy and Normal difficulty
All Difficulty Comparisons are based on Normal Difficulty
Easy Difficulty – Choosing this will make every enemy (even bosses) slightly weaker, making it easier for you to kill them. Enemys do less damage. Ammo will be dropped for frequently from Enemys. Healing Items (Herbs of all colors and First Aid Sprays) heal More and enemys drop them ever so slightly more. Money for Weapon Purchases and Upgrades will be dropped more frequently from Enemys (and the amounts will also be slightly higher). Weapon Upgrade prices will be reduced slightly. Some segments and enemys (such as Rocket Launcher Enemys) will be removed or are pushed back to the end of the game.
Normal Difficulty – Its Normal… Everything is Normal… It can be a bit challenging at times if you haven’t played before but its good if you want a good balance of Easy and Hard… you know… because that’s what Normal is…
Professional Difficulty – You don’t get this right from the start of the game but I guess you should know its the COMPLETE opposite of Easy Difficulty with a few extra tweaks.
Starting Out…
Things that may confuse you at first
- Controls – You move like a tank. No strafing. A and D turn you left and right. It feels weird at first but you get used to it by the time you finish a chapter or two
- Reloading – You must be in Aim Mode(holding right click) in order to Reload. Pressing Reload alone will not do anything.
- Inventory Controls – Page Up and Page down control Item Rotation and Backspace is to pick up and move an item.
- Cutscene QuickTime Events – During Cutscenes you may encounter quicktime events. Some you may not see coming. Be ready for anything.
- Melee Combat – Pressing Space will let you bring out your knife. Sadly the PC port has a 1 second delay when you pull the knife out to gain free movement but it can be drastically reduced if you hold Shift before entering knife mode.
Fighting Enemies
Once you start the game you will soon find yourself fighting enemies. These are the enemies you will encounter at the start of your game- – –
- Villager – Basic Enemies you will face through the majority of the game – No special Traits
- Dr. Salvador (Chainsaw Guy) – Enemy you encounter at the start of the game afew times and later in the game. wears a Sack on his head – Wields a One-Hit-Kill Chainsaw. Is alot harder to kill than any normal enemy.
- Colmillos (or as I call them, Convulsing Demon Dogs) – Dogs with tenticals that emerge from there back. Encountered after first boss fight – Has a special attack that deals more damage. Have slightly more health then Villagers.
- El Gigante – The Giant in Spanish. When you deal enough damage to it a tentical will emerge from its back and can be shot or attacked with a quicktime event – ITs a very Basic Boss with no special traits.
Fighting enemies more effectively
If you aim for specific spots on an enemy you can give yourself an advantage.
- HeadShot – Shooting an enemy in the head will cause him to stumble and pressing your Action Key (E by default) will cause you to kick and knock it, and any enemy around it, down. It also inflicts more damage (both the kick and the shot). *only works on Normal Enemies
- KneeShot – Shooting an enemy in the knee MAY cause it to drop to its knees and by pressing the action button you can do a Suplex on that enemy, causing heavy damage. *Only works on Normal Enemies
- The Knife – When an enemy has been knocked to the ground you can use the knife to finish it off before it gets back up. You can use this technique to conserve ammo and is at times crucial when doing Professional Mode. Fun Fact – you can kill EVERY boss in the game with only a knife.
Buying and Upgrading Weapons and Earning Money
Soon into the game you will run into This BEAUTIFUL MAN
And you will be able to Buy/Sell items and weapons and upgrades
Tips on what you should buy
WEAPONS
All weapons have stats and what not. Another guy made a Guide over weapon stats and I honestly couldn’t out do him, so I’ll just link you guys to his Guide
[link]
Upgrades
To be honest upgrades is pretty simple. Buying them will increase that specific stat. Once a weapon is fully upgraded you can get an upgrade that will Supercharge one stat about that weapon.
Treasures
As you explore the world of Resi 4 you may come across some treasures that will be worth considerably more money. Some range from 3000-15000. When you get something worth around 3000-10000 DONT sell it. Instead look at the description and see if it lists the possibility of it being apart of a set or if a set of something is missing. Combining Items that are apart of a set will raise the price of the base item considerably. Treasure will be your main source of cash in this game.
Tips and Tricks to help give you an edge
Upgrading Ammo/Free Ammo
Lets Say you got a Revolver (due to ammo being VERY scares for that weapon) and you run out of bullets and have a stack of 10 in your inventory and you ALSO see a Merchant coming up. If you upgrade the clipsize of ANY weapon that has an empty or used clip it will be filled automatically.
Striker Shotgun Speed Boost Exploit
once you get the Striker Shotgun, aim it, and before the laser shows up, go into your inventory and switch to a different weapon. You will now walk, run, and reload faster and much more. The effect goes away if you interact with anything or are forced into a quicktime event.
Easy Money/Health Item Farming
Once you get to the section of the game with the Farm you will encounter alot of chickens. They all lay an egg withing a 1-5 minute time period. Once they all lay an egg, leave the area and enter again and repeat. White chicken eggs sell for 300 Pesetas, brown eggs for 600 Pesetas, and golden eggs for 3,000 Pesetas.
Money for Heath
When mixing a Green, Red, and Yellow Herb together will Fully heal you and increase your Health. BUT! If you’re doing fine on health and really need the cash you can sell it for 10,000 Pesetas.
Killing Crows
If you see a group of Crows you can kill them for a little bit of money or ammo. Flash Grenades also kill them.
Easy way to kill large groups of Plaga (the tentacle villagers)
Flash Grenades. Insta-Kills.
Bypass the First Chainsaw Guy
When you enter the town with the ChainsawGuy for the first time, kill everyone. When the second wave of people arrives, also kill all of them. You can then go into the 2 story house and he will not come out.
Final Notes
Well I hope this helps NEW players and maybe even older players. AGAIN this is completely from memory so if I screwed something up then Kindly let me know. Thanks.
