Batman Arkham City: The Ultimate Beginners Guide for Batman: Arkham City GOTY

Batman Arkham City: The Ultimate Beginners Guide

Overview

My guide helps new players to the wonderful Batman Arkham City, and to let them get a headstart in the gameplay and story. it won’t be too long, but It will have lot’s of information. Hope you enjoy!

1. Introduction

Hello everyone. I am nerdboy (or Brandon) and this guide is to help newbies in Batman Arkham City. Arkham City is an open world action game where you have to fight Inmates from the walled off section of Gotham City called, *surprise, surprise* Arkham City. This guide will teach the basics and complexities of combat, puzzles, and a quick synopsis of the story. I hope you enjoy.

2. Config and Settings

When you first log in to the game, you have a title screen and you get to select the game mode. I highly recommend that you use the “benchmark” functionality of the game. This will let you know the graphics and frame rate of the game. The reason why I recommend it is so that you can change the game settings so you can get the most optimal settings possible.

3. Story

I don’t really want to spoil too much of the story to Arkham City, since it’s really great, and It’s an awesome story that I hope new players will experience. But to give a short synopsis, Doctor Hugo Strange makes a deal with the Mayor of Gotham to wall off a section of the city, thus turning into Arkham City. As Bruce Wayne is giving a speech, he gets arrested and interrogated by Hugo Strange, who knows that Bruce is Batman. Batman gets out of his interrogation room and beats up Penguin. After that he finds the Joker in a bad state, and then he gets poisoned by the Joker. So now Batman has to find the cure and stop the madness that is this game’s story. There are many twists and turns, and big plot points that I don’t want to spoil.

4. Basic Gameplay

The basic gameplay of Batman: Arkham City revolves around hand to hand combat, puzzle solving and stealth(which will get it’s own section). The hand to hand combat has a lot of depth, with only 2 main attack functions! There are counters and strikes. Striking allows you to chain together attacks in a certain sequence just by pressing the left mouse button( X for Xbox controller and square for Ps controller) a few times in a row. You can also hold a direction towards an enemy to launch batman at them for a slower, but stronger attack. There are counters as well. Whenever you see 3 blue lightning bolts over an enemies head, you can counter. You can counter as many as 3 enemies at once. You can upgrade Batman’s health, bullet resistance, attacks, and even give him combo enders. There are also puzzles that require batman’s gadgets, or if it needs a new gadget, you may need to backtrack.

5. Stealth

Batman can also use stealth to his advantage. Stealth has a lot of things to do. Batman can hide in grates, crouch walk behind his enemies and take them out silently, stay on gargoyles and do inverted takedowns, he can blow up walls with explosive gel, and more. If you are caught in a stealth segment, YOU’RE SCREWED! Enemies don’t take as much damage, and the ballistic weapons that they have deal a lot of damage. You have to stick to the shadows, which isn’t the hardest, considering that there are a lot of options of stealth.

6. End

That’s it. If you have any questions or if I missed anything, please feel free to message me about it. Thank you all for reading! =)
