Overview
This guide is made for bringing those who are not wholly familiar with the game into a better understanding. It will cover Classes, Equipment, Dealing with Geoprisms, Item World, Leveling Locales, Achievements, and Secrets.
Introduction
We shall keep this very short and sweet. I will be placing my personally collected knowledge about the game here for others who may be in need of a different view.I hope this is helpful and will remove your need to search. I am obviously not the only person who has collected this information, and I do not claim to be unique in my findings.
If you have found this information useful, please rate, give a like, comment, and/or favorite. I believe this guide has reached potential but I will still monitor comments for suggestions.

Classes and Class Unlock Methods
Non Mage/Skull Humanoids
Each Rank after the first is attained by having reached the recorded level with any member of that class. i.e. To unlock a Rank 3 Majin, you must have had a Rank 1 or 2 that reached level 60.
Mage/Skull Humanoids
All monster classes are unlocked by killing the corresponding monster, including prinnys. You can decrease creation cost by killing more of the creature.
Additional Note: A relatively easy way to unlock the higher monster tiers is to fight the Dark Assembly.
Additional Note 2: Capturing enemies is a less mana intensive method of gaining the mosnter class if need be. This can be done by throwing the enemy into the base panel.
Additional Class Features
Transmigration
Introduction to Transmigration
Transmigration is one of the games more advanced functions and this can get as complicated as you are willing to make it. For those who want to get heavy in the numbers, there are plenty of indepth guides online. I will be focusing on the basic and immediate benefits.
What is Transmigration?
To put it simply, transmigration is like new game plus for an individual character. The character will return to level 1 keeping some of their original stats, masteries, and skills. How much they keep is determined by the type of transmigration.
How to Transmigrate and Types of Transmigration
At demon rank 3 of the Dark Assembly you will open up a new choice.
When you do make the decision to do this, you will be allowed to pick a new class and then allowed to pick the type of migration.
The differant types will change in cost depending on the type of migration, class, and rank of the new character.
Why Should I Transmigrate?
There are several reasons for this of which I will mention a few.
- A transmigrated character is ALWAYS stronger than a nontransmigrated version of the same rank and level.
- Continued transmigrations will breed incredibly powerful characters rather quickly.
- This provides an easy transfer method when upgrading classes to the higher ranks.
- Creating a Genius Pupil requires approval from the Dark Assembly and Genius Transmigration does not.
Transmigration Tips and Notes
- When appyling Ability Bonus points focus on your weapon’s damage stat (ATK for Swords, HIT for Guns, both for Bows, and INT for Spells).
- If transmigrating at Genius level, you need a small amount of experience in a spell to keep it.
- This can be used to collect all the differant class abilities on one character without using Pupils (the ones that can’t be transfered like the Scout’s Dark Cannon are exceptions).
Equipment: Weapons
In Disgaea there are 8 unique weapon types: Combat Gloves, Swords, Spears, Bows, Guns, Axes, Staves, and Monster Only weapons. Normal Humanoid characters can equip all weapons types with the exception of the Monster Only class of weaponry. Each weapon type has a minimum of 40 different items and 3 variations of 39 of those- the Rank 40 weapon is always Legendary. The Monster Only weapons are an exception to this in that they have 42 Ranks. I will include retrieval methods in weapon information for weapons ranked 40-42. As for Rank 39 weapons, they can be stolen or received as rewards in and out of Item World. I will also list a guaranteed location if I am aware of one for Ranks 37- Max.
Rarity: Equipping multiple items of the same rarity number increases the stats of the items, this can be done in all slots of a character’s equipment.
Combat Gloves and Swords
Each Combat Glove is listed beside its in game rank. To obtain the rank 40 weapon one must enter and then steal it from the -Item God- on the final floor, 100, of the rank 39 weapon. In this case a Legendary God’s Hand is required.
Each Sword is listed beside its in game rank. To obtain the rank 40 weapon one must enter and then steal it from the -Item God- on the final floor, 100, of the rank 39 weapon. In this case a Legendary Cosmic Blade is required.
Spears and Bows
Each Spear is listed beside its in game rank. To obtain the rank 40 weapon one must enter and then steal it from the -Item God- on the final floor, 100, of the rank 39 weapon. In this case a Legendary Longinus is required.
Each Bow is listed beside its in game rank. To obtain the rank 40 weapon one must enter and then steal it from the -Item God- on the final floor, 100, of the rank 39 weapon. In this case a Legendary Artemis is required.
Guns and Axes
Each Gun is listed beside its in game rank. To obtain the rank 40 weapon one must enter and then steal it from the -Item God- on the final floor, 100, of the rank 39 weapon. In this case a Legendary Infernal Gun is required.
Additional Note: All Gun skills are single target.
Each Axe is listed beside its in game rank. To obtain the rank 40 weapon one must enter and then steal it from the -Item God- on the final floor, 100, of the rank 39 weapon. In this case a Legendary Durandal is required.
Staves and Monster Only
Each Staff is listed beside its in game rank. To obtain the rank 40 weapon one must enter and then steal it from the -Item God- on the final floor, 100, of the rank 39 weapon. In this case a Legendary Galactic Staff is required.
Additional Note: Staves do not have skills and instead increase casting efficiency and range as proficiency levels up.
Each Monster Only Weapon is listed beside its in game rank. To obtain the rank 40 weapon one must enter and then steal it from the -Item God- on the final floor, 100, of the rank 39 weapon. In this case a Legendary Lucifer Force is required.
Additional Note: This is the only weapon class with weapons ranked above 40.
Additional Note 2: This weapon type is exclusive to monster types and cannot be equipped by regularly obtainable humanoids.
Additional Note 3: Irregularly obtained humanoids use these weapons.
Equipment: Other
Other than weapons, one also has access to an assortment of other gear that can be equipped alongside a weapon. Only 3 may be equipped at any one time, but the combination is up to you. There are 8 categories: Armour and Shields, Muscles, Belts, Glasses, Orbs, Shoes, Symbol, and Special. Each has its own benefit for equipment.
Rarity: Equipping multiple items of the same rarity number increases the stats of the items, this can be done in all slots of a character’s equipment.

Mainly obtained by stealing or obtained through other special situations.
Hands and Stealing
Hands
Stealing
This is the main reason to invest into the Rogue tree if you are going to as they are the only ones capable of reaching 99% steal rate; they are also the only class capable of stealing stats permanently -with the exception of the story mode character Thursday. All other classes are capped at 50% steal rate regardless of Hit or character level. As you may have guessed from the previous statements, the governing factors are HIT and character level. The greater these two things are, the better your chance to steal. If needed, you can add Marksman to the stealing hand to increase chances even further (they will never excede the maximum chance previously stated).

Dealing with Geoprisms
Geoprisms are the pyramid shaped nonaggressive neutral targets on the battle field that apply affects to the coloured tiles on which they sit. There are several types.
Prisms
Removing Prisms
Though some of them give benefits, the majority of them are a hindrance. So how do you get rid of them? You kill them, chain them, move them, or any combination thereof.
- Invincible on a No Lift- a few methods
- Fist user to push it off the colour.
- Throw an enemy from a non No Lift onto the Invincible or No Lift prism.
- Break a prism that is the colour of the tile that the invincible is on while having a second prism of a differant colour break during the chain, this will cause the geochain to break the invincible prism.
- Invincible on a No Lift and No Colour Change- a few methods
- Fist user to push it off the colour.
- Throw an enemy from a non No Lift onto the Invincible, No Lift, or No Colour Change prism.
- Break a prism that is the colour of the tile that the invincible is on while having a second prism of a differant colour break during the chain, this will cause the geochain to break the invincible prism. Ensure that you have either broken, moved, or planned for the No Colour Change to start the Combo.
Item World
For the unfamiliar, Item world is where completionists will spend the rest of eternity. To complete the game regularly you will only be required to enter the Item World on one instance and aquire a singular level 10 equipable item. To gain access to the more powerful equipment one must travel deep into the item world and spend much time there. Most equipment can be found here with only a few exceptions. This is also where high end leveling will take place because of the abundance of high level creatures.
Most Rank 40 equipment can exclusively be obtained here by reaching the final floor of a Rank 39 legendary piece of the same equipment.
Tip: to make item world harder find higher ranked gear and fill the slots with any available specialists, do not combine unless you are planning to take them out.
Additional Note: Item World can be unforgiving; remember to exit often and save. I personally suggest that you bring a spear user for some rare situations. It is advised that you bring at least one person who uses fists in the case of an invincible Gatekeeper. It is also advised to bring along several sacrificial characters for throwing and/or attack blocking.
Additional Note 2: Investing in a spellcaster with staff mastery, though lengthy, can make Item World fairly quick and painless.
Additional Note 3: Bring a Mr. Gency’s Exit, it is a useable item that allows you to escape Item World and is awarded every 10 floors in the Item world as well as awarded once in the story-line.
Additional Note 4: If you are using Item World to level up gear, it is important to rememeber that it does not matter if you skip or clear floors as long as you kill every boss and exit after killing without using a Mr. Gency’s Exit. You can exit at any time through a Mr. Gency’s Exit but will lose the buffs if used after killing a boss.
Additional Note 5: This one is very important, in order to get the next ranked piece of equipment from the Item God, one must go from floor 1 to 100 of that item without entering a differant item. If one fails to do that the Item God will have random equipment.
Additional Note 6: When going for a rank 40 item DO NOT use a Mr. Gency’s Exit on the floor with the Item God. When you return they will NOT have the item. If you need to exit, do it on floor 98 or 99.
Specialist
Within the Item World there are also special enemies that increase stats, cause status defects, increase resistances, and apply other beneficial effects. These enemies must be found and “subdued” -killed- within the items in which they live. After being subdued they can be transfered and combined within the item of your choice.
-Place these in Weapons-
Generals, Kings, and Gods
While inside Item World one will encounter a boss every 10 floors. These bosses will sport increased levels, stats, and superior equipment -opinion- compared to their brethren. Consider the Rank of the item, Specialist Slots filled, and numer of Stronger Enemy bills passed when going in.
Leveling Locales
The story-line of Disgaea can be beaten without any major grinding needs, but the rest of the game…. like 90% of it will require massive amounts of leveling. This is a list of grinding spots. The final grinding areas are Item World, Dark Assembly, and/or Demonhall Mirror… I will provide two images for the purpose of making sure that you are on the correct map. There are other Leveling places listed in Secrets.

Secrets
Disgaea has many small secrets that are not necessarily spoilers. I shall do my best to avoid anything that may reveal story-line. If you are worried about this sort of thing then DO NOT read any further as I will be revealing secret bosses and other tid-bits.
Not Bosses
During your time in the castle you have the opportunity to unlock an additional game-play mode as well as a piece of equipment. This is done by activating two separate switches.
After activating both switches you will gain access to a new area. This area is accessed by going into a specific corner and pressing confirm.
This new area will have Etna’s memoirs and will have new information every chapter until the last chapter. As long as the Player has read every entry BEFORE the last chapter, they may receive a Testament by entering the area on the in the last chapter. Once a Player has done this they will be free to choose Etna mode on their next play-through.
Etna Mode Code
If one enters the area from within Etna mode it will give the player a button combination to unlock Etna mode without beating the game. The version of Etna mode unlocked with the code is much easier than the New Game Plus version.
Button Combination: 4, 3, 2, 4, 3, 2, 1
Keyboard Combination: I, J, L, I, J, L, K
Xbox/Steam Controller Combination: Y, X, B, Y, X, B, A
The above listed maps of Vyer’s Castle: Magnificent Gate, Cave of Ordeals: Cave of Ordeal 3, Sea of Gehenna: Fervent Melody are now even more effective for leveling as the creatures are stronger. New maps are also available for leveling.
Sea of Gehenna: Wasteland of Woe
Sea of Gehenna: River of Lava
Leveling Up and Killing NPC’s
Yes you read that correctly. It is entirely possible to kill the Humanoid NPC’s in the Overlord’s Castle. This in no way has any bearing on the game with the singular exception that you will have to either Save, Quit, and Load your file or Quit and Load your file to restore them. To do this one need only encounter them in the Dark Assembly. This can also be used to level them up feeding, throwing other monsters onto, them.

For those of you who actually want to buy all the music, which is extremely expensive, I have a simple solution for you. Assuming you have already beaten the optional bosses below, or atleast Baal. You can replay the Uber Prinny Baal fight infinitely. This may not seem all that impressive but remember what can be stolen! Nemesis MKII and Prinny Costume will always be equipped and are vendable for ~1,875,000,000HL and ~12,400,000,000HL respectively. Rinse and Repeat.
