Beginner’s Guide

Overview

This guide will give you some tips and tricks in building a good squad, where to put your points for upgrading your club, and some more tips for beginner’s trying to make their way up to the premier league (or top league in your country). The guide is a work in progress and if you have any points to improve it or if you’d like me to cover a different section, let me know in the comments.

Starting your Journey

Welcome to the league! I am a player with the Hero achievement for this game as I took Chesterfield from the Amateur league to the Premier league where I eventually won it 6x, National Cup 6x, and European Cup 5x.

General Tips

– Don’t worry about staying in a league for a few years until you are comfortable about the step up
– Don’t be afraid to sell players you don’t like
– Don’t teach your players skills that are useless in their position (i.e. tackling for a striker)

Disclaimer: I enjoy building squads and finding right formations more enjoyable and therefore have simmed a majority of my games. A lot of my tips will be off field.

Transfers

One of the first temptations you will encounter will be to dip into the transfer market and spend fame on upgrading the market age and amount of players you see.

STOP

As the game has a youth system that gives you one every 6 mo, it is best to use that and use your gold to upgrade your stadium and a better youth level. I didn’t buy anyone from the transfer market until I was in my 4th premier league season. At that point, I was just looking for young players that looked like they had good potential.

Building Your Team

Formations

Adjust your formation based on your strengths. Only have 2 really good strikers? Use 2 up top.

I primarily used a 4-3-3 and for 3 seasons, a 3-4-3. Although, I was lucky enough to have 2 good strikers and a good developing one.

It seems like having 4 in midfield is a bit of overkill, imo. I haven’t tried anything crazy and not even sure if that is possible, like having 4-5 strikers.

Where to put players

I like to put my stronger players in the middle as I found that to be most effective.

So if I’m playing 3 strikers up top, put your strongest in the middle – same for midfield. In defense, I like to put my strongest as the ‘sweeper’ which is the last one right in front of the keeper.

What stats to look for

This is really personal preference, but I like to have my players be really strong in the trait for their position. These are the types of players that I take chances on and let develop. If I get a youth player that has rounded out stats, I don’t like them as much. Don’t be afraid to sell off players you don’t like

High ACC for Strikers
High PAS for Midfield
High DEF for Defenders and GK

I really don’t pay attention to CTR

How to Spend your Fame/Gold on Upgrades

Fame Upgrades

I left transfer age and transfer amount of players until the end.

I started by putting 1 point into each of my position’s trainers so that they get more experience from matches. I go in order so I am not maxing out striker first, then midfield… I am putting 1 in striker, then midfielder… By point, I mean each time I am able to upgrade. So my upgrading process went like this.

– put a point in striker exp
– put a point in midfielder exp
– put a point in defender exp
– put a point in gk exp
– put a point in bench exp

rinse and repeat until they’re full

Gold Upgrades

I waited to upgrade my stadium until I had more fans than space. My youth player upgrade was usually further along than the stadium.
