Introduction
Hello, im Sarkubocael, im gona try and make an english guide for UFO online and it will change during my playing time as i discover new stuff.
Im not an english person, i speak a few languages and my spelling is not perfect so bear with me.
I also apriciate all info you can give me about stuff i dont have or know yet or stuff i might made a mistake with, you can coment, contact me on steam or in game, thank you.
The UI
This is how the game looks like outside of combat. To move around you use the arrows located around the center of the map. To the left you have Sector infomation and if any fights are happening it will show them here so you can join them, above it is the currency tab and bellow it a gang tab apears if you are in a gang which is something like a party in this game but if somebody dies during a fight, he loses all his loot, drops it in a box and spawns where his clone is, automaticly leaving the gang. Also being in a gang, onli the leader can move around and when he moves the whole gang moves with him, if somebody wants to move them selves, they have to leave the gang, the leader makes the moving choices on this game when you party 😛
To the right you onli have stuff you put in quick slots like first aid kits and food, and the lower part of the screen shows chat, character and system buttons.
First you have your HP that shows in a number and ur character portrait, and system button.
next to it is the chat bar with the system buttons and above it is an quest tracker if you have an active quest that needs you to collect items.
the buttons near chat open options and are hard to spot on the start, manny of us had prbs closing the sector piece of the ui and couldnt find how to get it back on, so joining fights was impossible.
here u can open : inventory, world map, PDA, Skills , gang, minimap in battle and sector.
Next come the buildings and the skills.
Peaceville 1 and The Buildings
Ah peaceville, looks so peacefull before you take your first step and get mauled by dogs hehe.
This is the first town, first piece of map you start your game on and for the first character you make on your account you will have a short tutorial explaining combat meaning i wont writte a guide about combat for now, so i suggest you follow the 5mins of tutorial to learn how to fight.
On the first part of the 2 map town, you will see 3 buildings, Arsenal, Hospital and Shop&Storage.
The aresenal will be your most important building for your first few levels/hours of gameplay, as it contains the first 3 free weapons, and first 2 free sets of armor, 2 free skills and infinite ammount of free armor. You can acess it by clicking on it and exit it by clicking on the Shut down button looka like on the ui window of the arsenal.
The hospital is your home, when you die you respawn in the hospital you have a clone set up, and you can heal by 2 means, 1: pay small amount of cash for timed heal (free until lvl 3 or 5) and pay larger amount of cash for instant heal. Both of these can also be used to get rid of timed negative stats effect like poison or electricity.
Next in line is the shop and storage, here you have your own piece of storage up to 500KG in the little window and rest of it is an auction house like sytem where you search for items, put buy or sell orders, and so on.
Peaceville 2 and The Buildings
going down by clicking the gray arrow on the bottom of the middle screen you will enter the 2nd part of peaceville map 2, where another 3 buildings are located: The Arena, the Delivery service and Clan HQ.
Arena is what the name says, you have an UI to select and specify fights you wana take against other players in pvp matches, you can eaven bet and lose alot of money 😀
Next we have the Delivery Service, its your standard mailbox building, you can send, recive and COD mail between other players.
And lastly we have the CLAN HQ where your clan can store and distribute between players the give rights to, since owning a clan costs real money and i cant afford it, im not runing one atm.
Thats all the buildings in peaceville, other towns usually have the same buildings minus the arsenal which is here just for the begginers.
The Other Buildings
At (1, -4) grid of the map you can find the laboratory, here is where you process your raw materials for pure materials like iron, proteins and other stuff used for crafting in schematics, more about that in Crafting section of the guide.
*BEWARE TODAY I DISSCOVERED A BUG WHERE IF U PROCESS A BIGGER AMMOUNT OF GOODS YOU WONT RECIEVE ALL THE MATERIALS!!*
— i processed 161 magnetite ore and i got 2022 instead of the 4044 iron ore that i was sopose to and half of copper and alluminium, doing it 10 by 10 was a 5 sec per craft but i got no prbs and i got the full ammount of materials back.–
At (0,2) grid on the map, we have the Factory, here you place a schematic and materials required to craft your items, more about that in Crafting section of the guide.
At (5,4) grid on the map we have the entrance to the mine, inside there are Extractors and Exhumators that drop ore and gas, whych when processed gives materials mostly needed for armors, weapons and bullets. Entering it will change your position bellow the normal map. Pressing M will open the map of the mine.
The Skills and Experience
So, level in this game onli represets on how much XP u acumulated and unlocks/locks the world co-op missions. It represents your strenght uptil lvl 21 then u just acumulated more xp.
Every fight u do, win or lose you get Free XP for the kills you make, pressing C will open your character window and you can see all of your stats:
To the left you see basic stats and effects, armor , etc… I wont say what what does but when you mouse over them they say what they do and what skill can increase them, for example strenght can be increased by a training skill called comprehensive training giving 2% to all atributes each skil level and strenght training that gives % depending on the skill tier.
so this is where the free XP comes, you get skills from the market house from players/ufologist (ufologist is the games npc that sells most of the items at basic price established by the game)
and then you need free experience acording to the skills requirement to learn it at lvl 1, then more experience each time you level it up to lvl 5. Max is lvl 5 but there are skills that have more varietyes like Scout that increases your traveling time has Scout:novice and then Scout:specialist, some eaven have expert and profesional and each go up to lvl 5 but you have to have the previous skill at lvl 5 to eaven learn the advanced one at lvl 1.
So generaly go out, keel some stuff gain free experience that you distribute to the skills and get to keel stronger stuff. Most stuff like armor and weapons, eaven medikits require skills before you can equip/use them. When you right click the item and click info then go to skills it will show you what skills you need before you can use/equip the item and it will show red X if you dont eaven own the skill and yellow >>> if you have the skill but not the required level of it :
so you can easily figure out what skill you need and work on your next piece of gear.
Armor and Classes
So first thing you should know this is an sandbox game, meaning there are no official classes, but depending on armor/weapons and item combinations you use you can make a custom class. For example if you use tactical armor, smgs and plant mines/granades and skill in drones at start you can consider your self an engineer, if you skill all into processing and production, with increased tresure finding and drop rates you can consider your self a crater or a looter, and so on,
So in the game its best to decide the path you wana go ASAP since on how the experience works.
There are 6 types (begginer, intial, assault, tactical, tank and special) of armor that have 3 parts Hat, Chest and Legs :
(i will split them into Tier-based which represent their strenght, meaning same class armors but diff types are same strenght.)
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*Begginer Armor-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Tier 1: these are the begginer armors you get from the building arsenal and are completly free, these consist of 2 sets:
Set 1: Bandana, Hoody and Jeans – you come equiped with these and they are best used till you unlock your first free skills Armor usage.
Set 2: Knitted Hat, Leather Vest and Field Pants – you need to unlock the free skill amor usage to use these and since they are completly free you are gona be spending your first few hunting hours in these until you get better armor.
Tier 2: these are the intial armors you can buy from the auction house in the city you start in (peace ville). they consist of 2 sets:
Set 1: Leather bandana, leather jacket and leather pants.
Set 2: Camo mask, camo jacket and camo pants.
*I suggest u skip this tier since they cost too much for the crapy protection they give, the free armor is free and not much weaker.*
Tier 3: here is where the fun beggins, this tier has 3 types of armor that have 7 sets each. I will not list the sets here since there are manny i will sort them on their class build instead.
Type 1 – Assault – Assault armor provides medium protection but lowers cover rates and gives bonuses to Assault rifles and machine guns, also it gives bonuses to trowing granades. The bonuses are bonus accuracy and damage to MGs and ARs, also Mgs take less Action Points to shoot and granades do more damage and have higer trowable range.
The first set of this type looks like this :
The later game-end game tiers look like this:
Type 2 – Tactical – Tactical armor provides low protection but increases cover rates making the weaver less likely to get shot when in cover, it gives bonuses to Pistols, Sub machine guns and Sniper Rifles and also makes mine planting easier. The bonuses are better accuracy and damage to SRs, better damage to SMGs and Pistols, less Action point cost for SRs and for setting up mines and also mines dish out more damage. This set also gives + action points depending on tier being +1 on the basic armor and +3 on the best one.
The first set of this type looks like this :
The later game-end game tiers look like this:
Type 3 – Tank – Tank armor provides the higest protection that increases when you use a shield, bullets also have a chance to ricochet hitting other players/monsters near them, this armor also gets lowest bonuses on cover since its ment to move forward and reach the enemie rather than hide and wait. It gives bonuses to shotguns and allows usage of shields, the bonuses are damage to shotgun and lesser mobility to use shields but it also gives penaltyes to minus acurracy to SRs and minus aiming time for ARs.
The first set of this type looks like this :
The later game-end game tiers look like this:
*so here is where your path is, choosing what armor you want and combining it with a weapon or chosing a weapon you want and combining it with one of these armor, Assaulters that go medium range, Tacticals that are long/close range or tanks that go close range with massive protection and a shield.*
Tier 4: this tier are the special armors, they are from what i see best in game and theres 2 sets of them
Set 1: The phoenix that gives different bonuses for different skills and more skills you have (tank armor, assault armor, tactical armor skills, etc…) the more bonuses it gives and the better it is, onli way to obtain it is from special capsules that i dont know where to get yet.
Here is the phoenix set in 2 variants i saw so far:
Set 2: Titan set, its a set that lets you carry more stuff, your normal weight is 75 with no skills and this set gives +300 also gives crafting time speed at 75%, so im guessing its a crafters set, but it also takes out -30% action points and ur travel time decreased by -30% meaning u will travel slower and combat is probably going to be hard, i have yet to see one and its the set im curently after 😀
This concludes the armor part of the guide. Hope you understood and liked it.
Here are some extras:
Weapons
So you came to my armory? well let me show you what i have. What i love about this game other than that its turn based and that every bullet, every material, every pieceof junk u find has some value is the variety of weapons and in that variety another variety like in example you have 2 types of snipers : long range/more damage and more shots/more ammo.
So in UFO online there are 7 types of weapons grenades and mines. Some have few types, some just go for a straight line meaning next gun is an improvement over the other and so on.
Pistols or commonly refered to as “Guns” are all about low action point cost and moving, they also take the least movability so they are combinable with every weapon out there, altho onli tactical armor gives bonuses to pistols. They have medium range, medium amount of damage and they have 2 firing mode, snapshot that every weapon has and aimed shot that increases the range and acuracy of the gun but costs more AP to use, they also have a nice crit rate and crit damage. They use 9mm bullets and are best combined with SRs since they both use the same armor for bonuses, and are great cuz of the low weight that they take compared to sniper that are the heavyest weapons to carry around and the low AP cost to switch to them from SRs and shoot right away to enemies that managed to come closer. They are also a great begginers weapon until you decide what path to take, the basic weapon skill unlocks a few guns on the list that are pretty decent to hunt your first resourses for cash with if you prefer to skip the free weapzies.
There are 12 types of guns starting from PMand every next one is a step up from the previous one needing more better skills and giving better stats than the previous one.
Sub Machine Guns or otherwise known as “SMGs” are the big brothers of guns, and young brother of assault rifles, they combine traits from both into a small gun like assault rifle. They have low ammount of damage, low range but they are able to use 3 firing modes : the common snap shot, the small burst of 3 bullets and biger burst of 6 bullets that do little less damage than snap shot and have lower accuracy. They have a bigger magazine than pistoles but they tend to empty out faster because of the bursts and considerable ammount of misses (atleast for me). They use 9mm bullets same as pistols, and are heavyer to carry around. I my self use SMGs with SR, its a good combination but SMGs take a bit more AP to equip, reload and shoot considering you use burst. The uzi , first smg is the best weapon for begginers other than pistols since its similar/better to the first avaliable pistols and not that expensive.
There are 12 types of SMGs starting from the begginer friendly UZI and every next one is a step up from the previous one needing more better skills and giving better stats than the previous one.
Assault rifles aka the ARs, are the bigest brothers of the pistol and smg , but instead of tactical armor they use the assault armor. They have higher ammount of damage and medium range, and 3 firing modes : snapshot, the aimed shot for bigger range and accuracy and the burst that has less accuracy and lower range but fires out more bullets at a time. They are are the most versatile weapon out there because of the differnt types of shooting and some of them are heavyer some are ligher to carry and depends on the AR it self they use diff types of ammo for example M16 uses 5.56×45 ammo while AK-47 uses 7.62×39. They have the same magazine size as SMGs, and most of the games population goes for them.
There are 23 different types of ARs and after the first pick the Galli AR they diverse into two different types the higer accuracy/crit rate and damage, lower overall damage and the higer overall damage , lesser accuracy/crit rate and damage types. Meaning you have to pick between ARs with higer damage and less acc or higer acc/crits and less damage.
The Machine Gun, the so called MGs, the rambo gun hehe, are the massive weapons that you see used in movies by people that wana shoot 3mins constantly in a scene. They use the assault armor as ARs and they have a messy range, it can go long , it can go medium but it cannot go close as in point blank range. They have 3 different firing modes: burst, burst and burst, but they are not the same, each burst differs in AP cost and range , as in the first burst is for closer enemies and uses less AP while the last uses more ap to hit targets in a higher range. They arey also use less AP if u crouch with them, so they are best used in red cover while crouching and waiting for enemies to come towards you, rather than chasing them like rambo, shooting all your bullets randomly missing and ending up dead looking at your rambo poster saying ” the ♥♥♥♥ just happened”. They are the heavyest weapons to carry nd have the bigest magazine, and they use different ammo types depending on the MG. So far i havent seen anyone in a fight with them so i cant judge their effectivness.
There are 12 types of MGs starting from the RPK that everyone talks about but you never see anyone use it and every next one is a step up from the previous one needing more better skills and giving better stats than the previous one.
Sniper Rifles, known as SRs or simply snipers, are the prime weapon for the long rangers. They have the longest range, high accuracy and HIGH damage, but also they use alot of AP and missing 1 or 2 shots with them can end up fatal for the users. Using snipers is more complex than other weapons since they have 2 firing modes snapshot and Aimed shot whych are both for high range , high ap cost and in case of a miss and the lack of ap to move while shooting can be fatal. You also have to take objects into consideration because mosnters small as dogs can hide behind a car or a tree, box and you would hit that instead of the mob. They are heavy to carry around and use 7.62 sniper ammo, they are best combined with SMGs or Pistols for close range defence as they also use tactical armor. This weapon is also the most prefered one in PVP and 2nd most in PVE after the AR.
There are 23 typers of snipers and after the first one the remington m40, every next step requires you to choose from 2 types of sniper, 1 being high range, high damage but also high AP use meaning 1 shot and bearly any movement , and lesser ammo clip, the other being a little lesser range and damage but also less ap use , so you can use 2 snapshots and move or aimed shot with snapshot with the tactical armor since it gives AP, it also has 2x biger ammo clip. I my self prefer the former since i like to shoot and move atleast a little and the 2 shot combo is great , atleast at start since some fights at 95% whych is max hit chance you can have you miss eaven 5x…
Weapons 2
Shotguns, or as other people call them “shotguns” lol yeah but i guess you can call them the mele of the UFO online, they have the shortest range, and really high damage, they use shells and are weighting same as ARs. They onli have one firing mode and thats the common snap shot they are best combined with a shield. Its a risky weapon since ur prone to die fist and not get any loot, but it might be good for soloing, especialy clsoe range mobs that tend to have alot of hp…
I never used grenades so far, all i know is they are trowable, probably aoe and assault armor gives bonuses to trowing range and damage.
There are 8 different grenades in the game.
I havent used mines yet, but i do know they are set on the ground and using tactical armor gets you higer damage and less ap to put them out.
There are 8of mines and each type of mine has 3 versions like bullets, regular, HF and AF.
Special weapons i presume are laser stuff droped from aliens, and tbh thats far far too advanced for me so this section will come much later on unless i find somebody to fill it in for me :E
There are 6 diff special weapons on the market.
Drones and Anomalyes
Theres a guide made for this called: Drone/scanning guide(with pictures! yaaay) By CrimsonStryker
