Overview
Amethyst is a pain to flawless. If you decide to flawless the bosses in chronological order, and do Amethyst first, the fight is significantly harder compared to the likes of Pr’Gora and Electram. This guide will go in detail on how to defeat Amethyst on MORTAL mode, with general tips for regular play, and most importantly, for a flawless victory.
Foreword
This guide will be talking about Amethyst on Mortal mode. I assume that the Angel and Demon versions of this fight are significantly different, but I wouldn’t know. I have a crippling fear of the easy difficulty in any game ever, and no way in hell was I trying the hard mode of a hard game on my first playthrough.

Suggested equipment
Amethyst is placed at one of two forks in the road of the game. You can decide to go through the entirety of the Sinister Grotto first and fight Dark Annihilator, as well as Terravine, or continue in the Terrestrial Vale. Of course, since most of the equipment you unlock is purely cosmetic, this only matters for the weapons, with the only suggested one being found before the fork.
- A good cosmetic set that you won’t mind looking at for over 3 hours.
- A hot drink OR a cold drink.
- Some form of food.
- A knowledge of all of Amethysts’ attacks.
- Time.
- The Darkheim watch. (Sinister Grotto first)
- Alternate weapons.
- A friend you can talk to while playing.
These items are optional.
I will go over weapons in the next section.
Weapons
7 Weapons are available in Wings of Vi, 1 by default, and 3 of which are obtainable before the Amethyst fight. If you have not obtained any of these weapons, you can check the Items Guide, which was made by Ki11s0n3, SureShot, and Psycho, linked here: [link]
The weapons you can obtain before the fight are:
The default weapon you obtain when you first gain the ability to attack. If you skip obtaining the best weapon for this battle, this is the second best option. Its fast attack speed is great for dealing a consistent 4 damage. It has a short cooldown.
Lust has a lower DPS compared to Pride, but a much longer range. It has its uses in this battle, but that would involve switching weapons on the fly, which can be difficult to accomplish when your concentration is elsewhere. It deals 2 damage on a full hit, along with a short cooldown.
The highest DPS of any weapon, this weapon is the best choice for the fight. The somewhat shorter range is offset by the full 360 range around Vi, and it can be fired at an incredibly high speed. In a fight where inflicting maximum damage is a must for a flawless win, this weapon is the best of the best. It deals 3 damage on a full hit, but has no cooldown time.
Only obtainable if you decide to do Sinister Grotto first, Wrath has the highest damage per swing, but otherwise is rather disappointing. A long attack cooldown as well as the speed of the fight results in a fairly useless weapon, from my experience. 6 damage on a full hit, alongside a long cooldown.
These 3 weapons are obtainable from later in the game, and can be used in this fight due to the existence of the Darkheim Watch. These weapons are:
A shorter range than Lust, but can be fired almost continuously. It’s a little slower, though. You could substitute Gluttony for Lust, but thats up to you, if you want to try swapping weapons on the fly. 2 damage on a full hit, with no cooldown. However, the attack itself is rather long.
Similar to Pride. It has no cooldown, but attacks at a slower rate. Stick with Pride if you lack Greed, or decide not to use it. 4 damage on a full hit with no cooldown, but is similar to Gluttony in that the attack is slower.
The only weapon I have yet to obtain myself, mostly because Twin Orcs are holding me back. Will update guide when I either obtain it for myself, or someone volunteers information.
If it isn’t totally obvious, I would suggest using Greed. In the next section, we cover Amethysts general behavior, and priority.

Inflicting max damage, priority, and speed.
Amethyst has a few unique mechanics for this fight. The main mechanic is that you can only inflict a maximum of 16 damage to her while she performs an attack. Once you reach that damage threshold, Amethyst will put up a shield that will block all further damage until she begins her next attack. This limits the amount of damage you can do, and prevents the entire fight from being won by a single good pattern where she stays close to Vi for the entire fight.
Inflicting 16 damage every attack means that you will defeat Amethyst as fast as possible. Amethyst has 170 health. That means, if the fight goes perfectly or near perfectly, the battle will end before Amethyst can launch her 12th attack. Of course, thats not going to happen, so expect to go up to about 25 attacks per battle.
Amethyst does not inflict contact damage. This is what makes the Greed weapon so effective, as it allows for max damage in a short period of time.
Amethyst has a list of attacks to perform, organized by priority. She will always start the battle by launching her Fire attack, covered in the next section. When the fire the attack spawns extinguishes, she will perform the attack again. This move has the highest priority over any others, and guarantees that Amethyst will be in a specific location when she begins this attack.
Amethyst also has the Death attack, which has a lower priority than fire, but higher than the rest. When her health reaches a certain threshold (est. 7/10 bars left, and 4/10 bars left, maybe 1/10 bars left?) she will perform this attack, unless the fire has gone out beforehand.
The rest of her attacks all have an equal priority, save for the Rocks attack, and maybe the Platform attack.
Whenever Amethyst uses her Death attack, the fight speed will increase, and attacks will gain different properties. Some attacks will be sped up significantly, some will become longer, and all of the attacks just become a little bit harder.
Whenever the attacks speed up, I will refer to them as (Battle Speed: x) where x is the number of times Amethyst has used Death.
In the next section, we cover Amethysts’ attacks.
Attacks
Amethyst has 7 attacks, and 1 rage attack. She will cycle through these attacks, adjusting for priority, which was covered in the last article. For a quick reminder, you can look at this helpful chart.

On to the attacks:
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com](Pardon my poor dodging, it just feels so good to be able to take damage again.)
The very first attack Amethyst will throw at you. It really sets the tone for the rest of the battle. Amethyst will launch several fireballs into the air, where they will then fall down and land on the ground, spawning flames that stick around for quite a while. These flames will limit your dodging area on her next few attacks, and force you to deal with multiple threats.
The smoke spawned by the fireballs on the trip up and down, as well as the boss name at the top of the screen can obscure the fireballs, but its usually a minor inconvenience.
Often, hiding directly beneath Amethyst will allow for a full 16 damage, as well as being an unlikely spot for Amethyst to target.
The fireball will inflict 25 damage, while the ground flames will only inflict 15.
Amethyst will telegraph this attack by orbiting 4 small flames around her.
This attack will come out much faster as battle speed increases.
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
This attack can come out at any point in the fight, assuming priority hasn’t picked something else. Amethyst will spawn red vertical highlights from left to right across the screen, which is where thunder will strike. Naturally, the safe place is in between the highlights. After the first set of thunder, a second set will spawn much quicker, which will strike different spots depending on the battle speed.
Remember to use your double jump and flutter if the fastest safe place near you is over a flame.
Thunder hits for 20 damage.
In addition to the second set of thunder striking differently, the first set will come out much faster depending on battle speed.
Amethyst will telegraph this attack by orbiting 4 small thunderbolts around her.
If she uses it before her first Death attack (Battle Speed: 0), the safe place is where the thunder just struck.
If she uses Death once (Battle Speed: 1), the thunder will strike slightly left of where the first set struck.
If she has used Death twice (Battle Speed: 2), the safe spot is wherever the first set didn’t strike.

Like thunder, this attack can come out at any point in the fight. Amethyst will spawn large, sharp ice chunks that fly towards where you were when it first spawned. In the image preview, I was able to keep the ice almost consistently aimed in the middle, although two other methods of dodging this attack will be shown below.
Flutter shouldn’t really be used if you have to come up with a dodging method on the spot.
Ice hits for 20 damage.
Amethyst will telegraph this attack by orbiting 4 small ice shards around her.
Dodge 1[gfycat.com] (When I fluttered, that was a bad idea. The point is to force her to aim her shots up and down, alternating so you are always moving away from it.)
Dodge 2[gfycat.com] (Ignore the flame damage)
(Battle Speed: 0) 5 ice chunks, slow speed
(Battle Speed: 1) 6 ice chunks, medium speed
(Battle Speed: 2) 7 ice chunks, high speed
Attacks, cont.
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
Similar to Ice and Thunder, this attack has medium priority. Bubble (Or Poison, if that floats your boat.) can be best described as working like the Conving enemies back in the Floating Keep. They will try to adjust to target your position, but can be controlled to fly around you depending on positioning. Its a bit difficult to explain, but you should quickly get a feel for it.
Bubble (Poison?) inflicts 20 damage on hit.
Amethyst will telegraph this attack by orbiting 4 purple circles around her.
(Battle Speed: 0) 2 bubbles
(Battle Speed: 1) 3 bubbles
(Battle Speed: 2) 3 bubbles?
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
Wind seems to have a weird priority, as I have seen it as many times as Ice in one battle, and only once in another. Wind has a unique property in that the flames on the ground will not go out during the attack. During every other attack, the flames can disappear, but the timer is extended for this wind attack. Fitting, as it tries to blow you into the flames. The direction of the wind will change as the attack goes on.
The safest place is in the air. Try not to stick too close to any flames horizontally, as you’re just asking for the wind to screw you over.
Again, the flames only inflict 15 damage.
Amethyst will telegraph this attack by having 4 clouds orbit her.
(Battle Speed: 0) Changes direction 3 times
(Battle Speed: 1) Changes direction 4 times, changes faster
(Battle Speed: 2) Changes direction 5 times, changes faster
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
This attack seems to come out less often than Ice/Thunder/Bubble(Poison?)/Wind. The attack will fill the bottom of the arena with flames, and Amethyst will spawn ice platforms for you to jump on. She can spawn these platforms within a small area, so you can make every jump between every platform. She seems to prefer high platforms on the left side, and low platforms on the right. Platform location is indicated by a large blue shine. This shine can be pretty hard to see if it appears on top of a platform. After a certain amount of time, a platform will shrink and vanish whether you stepped on it or not.
If you flutter and double jump, you can skip landing on one platform and land on one generated after the one you skipped. As fight speed goes on, this becomes more important.
Amethyst will telegraph this attack by orbiting 4 snowflakes around her.
(Battle Speed: 0) Platforms will hang in the air for about a second.
(Battle Speed: 1) Platforms vanish faster and are spawned quicker
(Battle Speed: 2) Platforms spawn and vanish very quickly.

The bane of my fight with Amethyst, this attack seems to have the lowest priority. Amethyst will rarely use this attack, with a full fight having, on average, 1-2 uses. Rocks are a bit difficult to dodge, no thanks to the flames on the ground. When used, Amethyst will launch rocks high into the air above her (These do damage while flying up!) and will target your current position relative to when they decide to fall. Upon contact with the ground, they will launch 3 small chunks of rock into the air, with 2 launching at roughly a 30° angle, and one straight up, affected by gravity. Try starting from the far left or right of the arena when she starts this attack, and work your way to the other side.
The small rock chunks deal 15 damage, while the larger rocks deal 20.
(Battle Speed: 0) 5 rocks
(Battle Speed: 1) 6 rocks, speed increase
(Battle Speed: 2) Panic.
Death Attack
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
In a section all of its own, the Death attack has the second highest priority. Similar to the Wind attack, the flame timer will be extended during the course of this attack.
Amethyst will telegraph this attack by orbiting 4 small skulls around her. When she begins this attack, she will start by appearing in the middle of the arena and spawning 8 skulls that move outward in a spiraling fashion. How these skulls appear and move is consistent between each use. There are two methods of dealing with this attack:
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
A somewhat riskier attack, but with a good payout. Standing somwhere underneath Amethyst, you can time a double jump + flutter to squeeze in between two of the skulls and net some damage, without taking any yourself.
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
If you get caught on the outskirts of the attack, or don’t feel like trying for damage, you can just avoid the circle of skulls completely by sticking to either of the far sides.
The skulls deal 25 damage.
After the orbiting skulls, Amethyst will begin to charge this attack, as well as spawning skulls that orbit her and block shots. An audio cue, as well as a visual cue of the 4 mini skulls from her telegraph getting closer to her, will play before the attack itself. The attack spawns a large, dark colored beam that targets your current position on the ground. By that, I mean that if you jump, it will still aim where you would land if you were to not move horizontally at all. Again, two methods of dodging this attack exist:
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
This method of dodging involves waiting for the beam to get close, then jumping and having the beam sit still, followed by landing, taking care not to land on any flames. Its simple, really.
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
This method involves trying to move over the beam, so that it moves back towards Amethyst. Remember how I said Lust had its uses? Using this method, you might be able to squeeze out a little extra damage from Amethyst. Sometimes, however, you might come just short of landing in front of the beam.
The beam deals 90(!) damage.
First two teleports
Gfycat preview[gfycat.com]
Amethysts’ first two teleports are always consistent. She will start on the left side of the screen, then quickly teleport to the middle. This counts as one attack, so when you get her up to 16 damage, she will put up her shield. After she finishes her Fire attack, she will then teleport up to the top-middle of the screen, where she will start her next attack, and where you can continue hitting her for extra damage. At this point, where she will teleport and what attacks she will use will be random.
End
Hopefully, this guide will help you either beat Amethyst for the first time, or even give you some tips for attempting to flawless her. Just keep trying, and remember that this isn’t even the hardest fight.
