Newspaper Sidequests

This section will detail the sidequests you can find by reading the Bronco County Sunrise that aren’t detailed in other sections, such as Quiz Master or Riddles.

Swellsville

Bootsy the Cat

Leena Applewhite has lost her cat and is offering a reward to anyone who finds her. There are several cats around Bronco County, but you need to find the one with gray fur and violet eyes.

Check the bottom right corner of Swellsville
Reward: Handkerchief
Effect: Revive yourself in battle in half the time

The Crop Thief

There is a crop thief who is stealing crops during the night.

Camp outside of Swellsville and she will be walking around. Talk to her

Reward: You can hire her on your farm to collect your crops for you

Bigfoot
Available after arresting “Stampede” Sally Little after the San Gonzalez storyline

Bigfoot is attacking people by the bridge above Snake River. Talk to the Talmadge family for details. Go to Bumblebee Junction and check the Safari to learn of the missing gorilla and receive the doll. Return to Snake River and defeat Mambo. Talk to Bongo to collect your reward.
Reward: Snapcracker (whip) – Atk+40, no innate effects

Rabies Outbreak
Available after arresting Burning Crow

There is a rabies outbreak in Swellsville’s farms. Exterminate a raccoon, goat, pig, and dog on the neighboring farm. Then speak to Dudley Brown about Patient Zero. Go to the Howl Family Farm and exterminate the Mountain Lion. Afterward, speak to Old Bill Crawford for your reward.
Reward: Spurs
Effect: Once per battle, when your HP falls below 25%, return to full HP

Chepakwik Forest/Village

Silver Spring Auction
Available after arresting Burning Crow

Nathanial Courtright purchased a Chepakwik artifact from Silver City. Take Moon to his house to examine the artifact on the table. Go to Chepakwik Village and speak to Dreaming Lark. Return to Swellsville, sneak into the Courtright home from the shed, evade Mr. and Mrs. Courtright, bypass the guard in the hall and speak to Eli for a clue regarding the combination to the safe in the library.

Answer: 4280

Take the Ketoh to Dreaming Lark and make a decision. You can pay Courtright $50 for it now ($70 later if you don’t have the cash now), keep it and provoke his wrath (you can pay him $100 later for forgiveness), or return it to him.

Tiger Squirrels
Available after arresting Burning Crow

Locate the 5 Tiger Squirrels in the forest, then confront them at their base
Reward: Thunderbolt (bow) – ATK+40, no innate effects

Cyprus Flats

Gumbo
After defeating Scorpion Saint, read the ad then talk to the cook (Gumbo Guru) in the bottom left corner of Cyprus Flats. Then speak to Jim Flowers in the Saloon kitchen. Go into the basement and defeat the henchmen to get the sheet music. Give the music to Windom Ivory in the Saloon so you can view the sheet. Read what the notes spell out to get the ingredients. Then confront the Gumbo Guru with the information about the ingredients to learn the recipe. If you can’t read sheet music, speak to Riley Hackett in the Gumbo Guru’s line and he will translate the first part, which you can use to decipher the rest.
Reward:Grisly Atonement
Effect: Doc’s ultimate weapon, ATK+50, no imbuements
Note: To get the Gumbo Recipe, you must still buy one from the Guru

Prospect Bluffs

Lost Goats
After defeating Creed Little, read the ad in the Bronco County Sunrise. Go to Wan’s Restaurant and speak to Hank Wisehart. Enter the mine and at the mine cart area, you will have 2 minutes to rescue 5 goats
Reward: Rifle Scabbard
Effect: Big gun attacks cost 1 less action point to use

Raccula

Hint: Something in the mine is attempting a ritual that must not be interrupted to summon Raccula
Answer: The Nocturnal Screechers in the mine cart area are attempting the ritual. Sit idle in the battle or whittle them down, but don’t kill them. Eventually they will summon Raccula and you can then kill them.
Drop: Raccula Blood Treasure (sells for $4.50)
Reward: Cattleman Revolver (small gun) – ATK+25, no innate effects

San Gonzalez/Fort Chatahasee

The Ghost of Andreo Franco
After arresting “Stampede” Sally Little, a story about a ghost will appear in the Bronco County Sunrise. Go to San Gonzalez and camp out. There will be a piece of paper on the right side of the fire. Collect the map to meet the Ghost. Speak to Andreo’s wife in the Cantina and set out for Fort Chatahasee.

The map starts at the railroad crossing. Go through the fort and over by the camp site and on the left side of the right-most plateau will be where you need to search to find the chest. You will be ambushed by Tuco’s gang and must fight.

Reward: Bandolier
Effect: As long as you have 1 action point, you can take action. This can leave you with negative Action Points

Question Master Safes

Swellsville

Hint: Enter the number of letters of each member of the McSween family’s first name in order from Youngest to Oldest
Answer: 4547
Explanation: You can find 3 members of the family on the east side of Swellsville, however, on your way to Swellsville, you passed a grave for Jane McSween that some people may have overlooked.

Reward: Slim Jim
Effect: Holster that makes small gun vantages cost 1 less power point

Chepakwik Forest

Hint: Examine the stump closely
Answer: 9037
Explanation: Examine the stump in the picture in the paper

Reward: Bear Trap
Effect: Paralyzes enemies at the start of battle

Cyprus Flats

In the Alley
Hint: Enter Question Master’s birthday
Answer: What date are you playing this on?
Explanation: It is looking for the date in the form of month, then day. December 15th would be 1215, March 14th would be 0314, etc.

Reward: Leather cuffs
Effect: Heals user for 10% of their HP for each AP spent

In Impostor Valentine’s office
Note: Technically not a Question Master safe
Answer: Written on the wall of Valentine’s office in the flashbacks

Reward: Gattling Gun (BigGun)
Effect: Atk+40, Repeater x5

Prospect Bluffs

In the Maze
Hint/Explanation: Solving the maze in the newspaper will reveal a 4 digit combination

The hooligans that we put into their places after arriving in Swellsville in the first game have given up on trying to crack our skull with force but instead are attempting to crack it with math and logic.

For this section, I will not list the riddles in their entirety, but I’ll list the math behind them as well as the answers.

There are a few additions to the farm you can pick up beyond just the plants and livestock to make your farming life a little easier.

Horace Westbrook
How to Hire: Talk to him in town and he will offer his services. He is the old man by the carriage outside the train station.
Cost: $20
Effect: He will transport you to various places, allowing you save on train fare. He is also the only way to enter Fool’s Feast Desert
Note: He will not take you to Fort Chatahasee or Prospect Bluffs

Josie Trotter
How to Hire: Complete the Crop Thief sidequest
Cost: $10
Effect: She will gather all of the harvestable crops on your farm for you

Leon Barker
How to Hire: Read his ad in the paper, then talk to him in the refugee house
Cost: $10
Effect: He will gather all of the materials from your livestock for you

Bongo
How to Acquire: Complete the Bigfoot sidequest
Cost: None
Effect: None (other than rewarding Rosie)
