Brawler Lonestar - Dynamite EVERYWHERE [CONTEST] for Awesomenauts

Brawler Lonestar – Dynamite EVERYWHERE [CONTEST]

Overview

This guide will teach you how to turn Lonestar from a squishy, fighter naut, into a life-sustaining brawler! This is a thorough guide and will describe what items to buy and why to buy them, and also how to play Lonestar with this build so you know how to use it correctly and don’t have to worry about finding out the playstyle. This guide also gives some room for customization and decisions, allowing you to decide what items to buy when, but keeping it in the idea of a guide still.

Introduction/Info/Basics

First thing is first, a brief section about Lonestar

Lonestar is a medium-ranged, high damage ‘Naut, and with these 2 characteristics active, this ultimately makes him a squishy Naut as well, ranked in the 3rd lowest group of Nauts according to Health (The lowest group consisting of Froggy G only, and 2nd consisting of Nauts with 50 less Health). While Lonestar clearly isn’t the most squishy Naut, having the Health he has, and also playing the role of pusher and fighter, puts a scare into Lonestar players when caught off guard. With this guide, I will show you my build (obviously) that not only allows Lonestar players to keep their Health up and not have to worry about it, but to also be able to turn Lonestar from a Fighter Naut into a Brawler Naut as well, allowing you to stay in fights longer, and pack that extra punch needed to push and brawl yourself to victory!

*Warning*: The only flaw with this build if you are being outplayed: You will not have a bull to back you up til midgame, but can always substitute a buff for ‘Bank and Bull’ (We’ll get to that section later).

Starting Items/Gameplay

Starting Build

Alright, as most of you probably skipped ahead ’til you saw some build icons or this title, this is where your build really starts. First items we want to buy are Dynamite Throw and Stage 1 of Cheetah Bullets.
Now, something odd about this build, we don’t see both skills coming out right now. In order to focus on being able to stay in battles longer, we have to delay an important asset of Lonestar, in this case, its Hyper Bull. Fear not though, Hyperbull will come in some time in mid-game. But back to the build we have going right now. With these 2 starting items, we are able to start building both our damaging side and sustaining side of our brawler. With building Cheetah Bullets, we are able to effectively increase our Attack Speed of our Auto Attack higher than every Naut -with the exception of Nauts who have continuous Autos (Coco, Yuri, Voltar, Ted), therefore also increasing the Damage-Per-Second we produce, where as if we were to buy bull at this moment, we would still be producing lower DPS, with both skills constantly on cooldown.

Gameplay

Alright, now time for the action. In order to play effectively, you must play Lonestar as he is described by his role: you must constantly be pushing droids to tower, AND also be engaging in team fights. With this build, you want to destroy as many droids and creeps (and later Solar Bosses) as fast as possible! Without the confirmed kills of creeps and droids, you will not have a constant solar intake, thus delaying your build to become the Brawler.
TIP: How I effectively play this part of the game: Its hard to multitask in this game, since it requires knowledge of every location all the time, but in order to hold a push and stay in the team fights, I tend to destroy the droids in bottom lane, and allow the allow my droids to push alone, allowing me to engage in the team fight. Meanwhile, on the enemy team, they see their bottom tower is getting attacked, and unless 1 of them retreats from the fight to fend off the droids, it will be a turret loss in the matter of minutes, and the game just started! With 1 enemy leaving lane, this allows for another push in the team fight lane, forcing all nauts to come back to this lane, where i quickly go back and destroy the droids in bottom lane with my Dynamite and Auto Attacks (thanks to my Cheetah Bullets), and then return back to the team fight.
With this strat, you will start to build a solar stash very quickly, and possibly even gain more if you win some team fights, but you will also be pushing a tower as well, a win-win scenario.

First Tele/New Items/YOUR STYLE

After you’ve built up some solar stash, retreat back to base (I tend to leave at around 500 solar). This is where YOU and YOUR PLAYSTYLE affect what to buy next. In the end, its all going to be bought, depending on how you play, and how your team is doing, you get to decide what Lonestar needs in order to continue your push to victory.

Your Perks!

When you have enough solar, the next item to build is up to you, but you still need to make sure to build each one completely before moving onto the next section. The items that you are allowed to choose to build first from are: Stage 2 of Cheetah Bullets, both Stages of Bovinian Postcard, which is cooldown on Dynamite after each successful Auto Attack hit, and Transfusion Grenades, which offers Lifesteal on Dynamite.

Reasons for each perk

The reason you need is perk is that this transforms you into the brawler-role.
With Stage 2 of Cheetah bullets, you are allowing your Auto Attacks to become useful, instead of letting them fall off the damage curve during mid game. This, this allowing you to be able to chase nearly-dead Nauts and allowing you to be confident that you are able to confirm the kill.
With Bovinian Postacard, this allows for your Dynamite throw to get off cooldown much faster than it would regularly, allowing Lonestar to have much more burst damage in teamfights than the enemy was expecting from a Lonestar.
With Transfusion Grenades (this one being the most obvious reason), this allows you to have Lifesteal on your Dynamite, allowing you to stay in battles without having to retreat to base, creep-camps, or hunt around for a health kit.
With these 3 items bought to their max, this allows Lonestar to be able to throw his Dynamite down, gaining life while using it, use his Auto Attack effectively while also reducing his cooldown on Dynamite, and then using Dynamite seconds later for another set of burst damage and health. The ultimate combo for some ultimate destruction.

Mid Game/Later Items

Mid Game

With the build we have so far, we are able to last in fights, have constant health, and (most likely) should be pushing their last front turret, if not, already their back turrets. You should still be killing as many creeps and droids as you can to have a constant solar-flow. At this time, you can also start to taking Solar Bosses easily without problem in the matter of seconds. Your Lifesteal/cooldown combo outweighs its pounding damage, and you gain full health upon killing it, plus solar for you AND your team. With this Solar flow, you should be having another massive Solar Stash building up in your pocket, so lets go spend some of it! The next set of items are once again, up to you depending on playstyle and enemy Nauts, but still all need to be purchased before moving on, and with the amount of solar you have, you can probably already buy 2 if not all of these already!

Later Items

You’re back at base now, and you get to decide what you need, lets take a look at the items:

The items you have to choose from are Summon Hyper Bull (like i promised), Crystal Eagle Bullets (Attack Damage), and Rocket Boots (Movement speed and Jump).
Once again, these items all work in corspondance to the build.
Hyper Bull allows us to gain our 2nd skill finally, and also allows for either an enemy pin, or push getaway for us if needed.
Crystal Eagle Bullets allows for our Auto Attack to stay ahead of the damage game, and furthers our ability to chase down Nauts more drastically.
Rocket Boots allow for us to be able to get away from danger, or chase our enemies better, do Boots really need an explanation?

This build, as it is and this far, is usually the furthest you will ever get to completing the build, as this will push you completely into the Brawler phase, and have pretty much taken the turrets and are already pushing base. If not, thats okay! Let’s continue with the build!

Late Game/Final Items

Late Game

It’s very rare that i’ve ever needed to get this far into my build, simply because the game is already over by the time im almost finishing my mid-game build, but if you are still in the game and need these final upgrades, here you go! This is going to be the part where most upgrades are shown, as most are space fillers and items that just give that extra push.
By this time, you should be getting close to taking out either one or both of the back turrets, and be getting ready to push the enemy base. You should still be killing droids, creeps and bosses. At this time, you are probably far enough ahead in your build and overleveling the enemies, so you shouldn’t have to worry too much about team fights anymore, you should be focusing on taking out both turrets, forcing the enemies to split between the two. You can use Bull to hold the push for that much longer, or force enemies chasing you to either back away or get pinned. But without the upgrades for Bull, your trusty animal friend isn’t going to hold much up against the enemy Nauts right now, and none of your items are finished in your build yet either, so you haven’t reached your max potential. You have built up a lot more solar, and its time for you to head back to base and get your final upgrades!

Final Items

Alright, this is where the build starts getting tricky, as there are so many extra perks to build to increase your control as a brawler, but i’ve picked the best ones and saved them for the end, as they aren’t the main ones you need for this build, but still are effective when in this build! I’ve broken down the final items into different stages, allowing you to decide which to build first, once again, according to your playstyle and Nauts, but STILL, before moving on to the next stage, I encourage you to finish the the stage you are on first. Here they are:

Stage 1

The 2 items in this stage are to help maximize your damage. The 2 items are Trinamite and Eagle Bullets If you are having trouble with finishing enemies in a chase, max out Eagle Bullets, if you are getting worried about team fights and how much damage you’re doing, max out Trinamite. If you aren’t having any problems, feel free to equally build them (some people would advise against this. Its late game, either way you’re building damage, its alright). With these 2 items in your build, you are maxing out alot of your damage stats, both in Auto Attacks and your damaging skill, your Dynamite. This allows for your Auto to get maxed, and stay ahead of your enemies Auto Attacks, as the majority of players wait for the end to attribute any solar to their Auto Attack, AND you are also maxing out your Dynamite skill, allowing you to deal another +100 damage (if all dynamite hit). Without these 2 items, you will have the occasional enemy Naut getaway, but with them, this situation will be minimizezd as much as possible.

Stage 2

These 3 items work great when built together as well. In this stage, you will be getting Barrier Magazine, Mature Ribbit Snale Slime, and Super Breed 2.0. Time for the explanation of each…again.
We are building Barrier Magazine because we already have lifesteal, so we don’t need more Health or Regeneration…yet. This will allow us to take less damage, and will also allow us to not have to worry about replacing as much health either, where Pills would force us to have to regenerate more health or steal more health, while Med-i’-can would replenish the health, but we already have Lifesteal for that matter.
We are buying Mature Ribbit Snale Slime first for the bull so we can slow enemies while in team fight, and reduce the amount of enemies who are able to get away now. I prefer Mature over regular due to the fact that its cheaper for the 1 stage of Mature, where 3 stages (and same effect) would cost an extra 110 solar.
After all this is built, we want to get Super Breed 2.0 on Hyper Bull to increase its size, and health, allowing for Lonestar to be able to pin enemies to turrets or walls for a longer time. This and MRSS work together because of the push and slow effect -you are able to push the enemy out away from the group, slow him from getting away, and then finish him off before he can get back. All while taking less damage due to buying Barrier Magazine.

Stage 3 (and final stage)

“Woah SkunkZi, you have too many items in this build now.” I see that. In this stage, you get another choice. You get to build both stages of Techno Viking Helmet and then a choice between Mr. Buff’s Power Pills Turbo and Med-i’-can.
We want to get Techno Viking Helmet for the extra damage to enemies when being pushed/pinned by Bull, a major damage boost/life eater when pinned. We also want to choose between Pills and Medi. With Pills, you have more Health, but also have to regenerate more and rely more on Dynamite. With Med-i’-can though, you do get more regneration and don’t have to rely on Dynamite as much, but you don’t have as much of a cushion if caught in a rapid team fight where you miss your dynamite.
DEV TIP: I normally go with Pills, just for the possibility of extra Health. And then combine that with Barrier Magazine, you lose less health, and have more capacity for it. Where Med-i’-can leaves you with the starting amount of health. Let me remind you, Lonestar is in the 3rd lowest Tier for health (Froggy G having his own tier alone, so really Lonestar is only 2nd lowest tier).

As of now, you build is finalized, you are know the brawler Lonestar you came here to become! And you are now destroying the other team and taking their base for the Victory! Good Job!

Final Words/Goodbyes

I hope this build helps some people out. If not, I hope it helps you with making your own build, I hope it helped you find what does and doesn’t work with you. This is something that works for me and the way I play, so I thought I would go ahead and share it with the community. Let me know what you think of it! Suprisingly, this took 4hrs to make, get pictures, and write, plus this is my first lengthy/explained guide, so I hope i didn’t just drone on and around everything!

Thanks for looking at my Guide!
