Can You Run “The Forest”?

Overview

A brief, step-by-step instruction to compare your PC to “The Forest” system requirements

Intro

I’ve been seeing so many people starting threads with the same question; Can I run “The Forest” on my machine?

I’ve seen this question so many times that I felt I should plug a site that allows you to compare your machine against pretty much any game’s system requirements that you can think of. “The Forest” is included on the website. Note that the follow instructions are intended to go in the “for dummies” section, so just wade through to get the gist if you’re not completely lost.

Get your account & compare your machine

Basic instructions as follows:

  1. Go to [link]
  2. Create a profile by clicking the “Register” button in the top right corner
  3. Enter a Username (one that hasn’t been taken) along with your email address.
  4. Click the “Free” button just below where you enter your email address. Now enter the text that is shown in the photo to prove that you’re not a robot.
  5. You will be sent a confirmation email to the address entered. The email will have your accepted username along with a login password. Highlight and copy the password.
  6. Go back to [link]. Click the login button in the top right corner. From the drop down menu, enter your username and paste your password from the email that was sent to you.
  7. Once logged in for the first time, you will be sent to your profile page. Directly below your profile picture (it will be a blank avatar), click the button the says “Add PC”
  8. Enter your “Rig Name” which can be whatever you want. Click the “Next” button in the bottom right corner.
  9. Continue to enter all of your machine’s information from the pull down menu’s, clicking the “Next” button after you’re finished in each category (Processor, Graphics Card, RAM, Operating System, Hard Disk Space, Hard Drives, Screen Resolution, Monitor, etc. etc.). Don’t worry about enter tablet, gamepad, cell phone info if you don’t have them. It makes no difference for your profile when comparing games to your PC.
  10. ***Click the “Save Rig”[/b] button in the bottom right corner below the “Next” button you’ve been clicking all along.
  11. Now that you’re logged in and your machine’s info has been saved, go to the very top center of the page and find the search bar.
  12. From the search bar, type “The Forest” or any other game you want to see if your machine can run.
  13. Scroll down the list of games and click on “The Forest”
  14. Scroll down the page and find 3 columns under the heading “The Forest System Requirements”. The columns will read “Minimum Requirements”, “GD Adjusted Requirements” & “Recommended Requirements”. You can figure out what each column means…I hope.
  15. Under the column “Recommended Requirements” you will see a row for the recommended “Intel CPU” & “AMD CPU” – Only concern yourself with the row that applies to your machine ie. if you have an Intel CPU, look in the “Intel CPU” row. If AMD, then look in the “AMD CPU” row. The same goes for the GPU rows.
  16. In each row you will see which CPU is needed to meet the minimum, GD adjusted, and recommended requirements. This is nothing to do with your machine, it’s just what would be needed to meet the corresponding requirements.
  17. **The Important Part**: Next to the recommended CPU, you should see a red or green icon with an arrow, a number percentage, and either a check mark or X.
    a. For example, if the icon is green, the arrow is pointing up, and you see a green check mark, this means that your CPU is FASTER than the recommended requirements by the number percentage.
    b. If the icon is red, the arrow is pointing down, and you see a red “X”, this means that your CPU is SLOWER than the recommended requirements by the number percentage.
***Note the same applies for GPU (Graphics Card).

Additional Notes

  • You can hover your mouse pointer over any of the icons on the page and it will give you a description of what each icon means.
  • Change your password to anything you like within your profile settings

Closing

I hope that at least some of you with questions about if you can run this, or any other game, found this guide helpful. It’s a great tool to use if you want to compare your machine head-to-head against the system requirements before you take the plunge and purchase any given game.

Please refer anyone you see posting “can I run it” questions to this guide so we can minimize the amount of repeat threads on a very basic topic.
