Overview
This guide covers the 4 weapons available in Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter Reborn. It will cover how the weapons function, what upgrades are avaiable (and worth using), and how the weapons can be used most effectively.
Intro
So, you want to hunt dinosaurs, huh? Good thing this is a game, because otherwise I’d be calling you crazy right now. Anyway, if trying to kill 8 ton death machines is your idea of a good time, you may as well do it right.
There are 4 Weapons available in Carnivores: The Rifle, the X-Bow, the Sniper Rifle, and the Revolver. The first 3 share 3 potential upgrades: Damage, Effective Range, and Weight. We’ll cover those when get there. The Revolver is the odd one out, being a purchasable piece of gear that complements your chosen primary. As such, it has no upgrades.
Rifle
Additional Stats
Weapon Cost: Free
Ammo Supply: 3+12
Rechamber Time: ~1.35 seconds
Reload Time: ~4.75 seconds on full reload
Pros
+ You get it for nothing
+ 3 round magazine allows quick follow-up shots
+ Largest ammo pool in the game
Cons
– Large ironsights make precision shots difficult
– Low damage
– Small magazine makes it poorly suited for fighting charging carnivores
– One of two weapons with noticeable scope wobble
Usage Guide
This is the jack-of-all-trades weapon of the game. As such, it is a good starting weapon. When hunting with this weapon, you should avoid going for eye shots unless you’ve had a great deal of practice. Better to go for shots to the lungs, which are much easier to hit. Use that “What just hit me?” moment to deliver follow-up shots. Your target should be dead or badly wounded by the time you need to reload. Also, you should only use the “hold your breath” option to steady follow-up shots, or shots taken immediately after sprinting. Otherwise you’re better off waiting for your hands to steady.
Upgrades
Bigger Effective Range- 100 gems -> The rifle isn’t really meant for long-shots in the first place. Skip it.
More Damage- 200 gems -> It’s expensive, and you can get the revolver for the same price. This is an iffy investment.
Bigger Clip (1 bullet)- 300 gems -> See the above about getting the revolver. Why have 1 more back-up shot when you can have 6? That said, the rifle keeps its damage over range better than the revolver does.
Smaller Weight- 400 gems -> I’m only saying this once, since this upgrade is available on all primaries: It isn’t worth it. If you want faster speed, the Light Clothes Player Upgrade is only 100 gems. All you have to do is holster your weapon. The few situations where you would want to run with your weapon out, it’s not enough to make a difference.
X-Bow
Additional Stats
Ammo Supply: 1+9
Rechamber Time: ~4 seconds
Pros
+ Highest damage rating in the game
+ Completely silent
+ Comes with scope with markings for different ranges
+ Less scope wobble than the rifle
Cons
– Bolts have drop and travel time, making shots harder to land the further away you are
– Slowest rechambering speed in the game
– User has to estimate the amount of drop of shots that fall between the markings
Usage Guide
The X-Bow takes the most skill of the weapons available in Carnivores. Take your time, and make your shot count, because you probably won’t get another one. Players looking to take a brute force approach to hunting will appreciate the high damage this weapon provides.
*EDIT* Discovered a new advantage this weapon has. Carnivores, when shot, tend to respond by rushing towards the source of the noise and devouring you. When shot with the X-Bow, all they understand is that something is hitting them and they can’t tell what, so they try to run away rather than attack. That said, if a carnivore manages to detect you, they’re probably going to eat you before you can ready another bolt.
Upgrades
Bigger Effective Range- 100 gems -> Seeing as I’ve managed 1-shot kills at 150 m, I don’t know why you’d want this. You’re already pushing your luck with 200 m shots thanks to the bolt drop and travel time mentioned above.
Increased Damage- 200 gems -> This feels like overkill, considering the weapon’s high innate damage.
Smaller Weight- 400 gems -> See the Rifle entry on this upgrade.
Sniper Rifle
Additional Stats
Ammo Supply: 1+7
Rechamber Time: ~3 seconds
Pros
+ Miniscule scope wobble after the first second of aiming
+ Perfectly accurate- the bullet will land where the crosshairs are
+ Second highest damage rating in game
+ High power scope
Cons
– Smallest ammo supply
– Rechamber Time is slower than average
– Expensive even before upgrades are considered
– Scope wobble in the initial moment of aiming makes panic shots unlikely to hit their mark
Usage Guide
This is the precision weapon of Carnivores. By the time you get this weapon, you should have a good idea of where the dinosaurs’ eyes are. Aim for them, this is the only weapon that can consistently hit them, scoring you 1-hit kills at extreme ranges.
Upgrades
Bigger Effective Range- 100 gems -> This is the only time this upgrade makes sense. The only other limitation on this weapon’s range is how good your own eyes are.
Increased Damage- 200 gems -> You should be hitting the eye when using this, in which case you won’t need the extra damage. Use the bow if you want higher damage (you can use it and its own damage upgrade for less than the cost of this weapon), or the rifle/revolver if you want to spam shots (both of which cost less than this weapon).
Smaller Weight- 400 gems -> Why are you running with a sniper rifle? See the previous sections regarding this upgrade.
Revolver
Additional Stats
Ammo supply: 6+6
Rechamber Time: ~0.6 seconds
Reload Time: ~4.7 seconds, always
Pros
+ Largest magazine capacity in the game
+ Fastest refire rate in the game
+ Can be taken alongside any primary
+ No score reduction when used, unlike many gear options
Cons
– Shorter effective range than the primaries
– Blocky ironsights prevent precision aiming past short range
– The only other gun with noticeable sight wobble
Usage Guide
The Revolver has 2 main purposes: Saving ammo for your primary, and stun-locking charging dinosaurs. Individually, the shots aren’t very powerful, but you get 6 before reloading. It might buy you just enough time to hop up onto a ledge, or it might finish your attacker off if you place your shots well. When repelling carnivores with it, don’t spam the trigger, each impact will buy you a couple seconds. Fire once to stun, aim your follow-up shot for a vital before it can recover, repeat until one of you dies.
