carriers and how to use em

Overview

this guide will go over the basics on how effectively use carriers and air wings.

introduction

all of my experience is with british carriers.
i do not think there is a big difference between different nations regarding carriers.
this guide is intended for new players, if you find anything wrong in this guide please comment and help me make the guide better.

with that out of the way, lets begin.

the two tasks of a carrier

we can start with what is expected of you as a carrier commander.
your two main tasks are:
1.striking- your air wings are capable of delivering bombs, rockets and torpedos over a large area around the carrier and faster then other non carrier ships.

2.reconnaissance- air wings are faster and more agile then ships and are not restricted by terrain.
thus, they can spot and report other ships to the main force.

how to keep yourself alive

staying alive is always your first priority.
the best option is to always stay behind cover, don’t sail out in the open.
the second option is to try and stay far from the fighting.
press M at the start of the round and set course to a good location.
remember, air carriers are fragile and you may have secondary battery but they are useless against all but the lightest destroyers.
your secondary battery is not the only thing you can use for self defense, your carrier is also equipped with a group of 4-5 fighters.
fighters will deploy and return as needed, you got no control over them.

managing your air wings

1.armaments
you carrier has three different types of armaments:

rockets- the lightest and fastest of aircraft armaments, bad against heavy armor but really easy to aim due to its fast speed.
you should use rockets only against fast moving destroyers, anything more and you should just use other armaments.

bombs- the most balanced of armaments for your air wings, it has decent penetration so you can pierce cruisers and can set ships on fire.
bombs are also harder then rockets to aim, the bombs spread make it so its most devastating when bombing from the front or the back of the ship.

torpedo- torpedo droped by air wings are very similar to torpedo fired from the side of a destroyer.
torpedo have the most armor penetration and damage.
you should use them against slow moving targets, that means battle ships

2.aiming
now that you know a bit about your arsenal you need to know how to aim them:
(its important to know that you can aim for more time to make your bombardment more accurate)

rockets- they are very easy to aim, just put the enemy in the center of the big circle and you should be fine.

bombs- the spread of the bombs make it so they drop forward and backward more then to the sides, try to approach enemy ships from the back and front.

torpedo- the best way to drop the torpedo is from the side of the enemy ship.
remember, torpedo are very slow and hard to aim so aim ahead of the enemy ship.

here we can see the wrong way to aim bombs, from the side.
this way the least amount of bombs will hit.

this is the right way to aim your bombs, from the back or front.
that way the most bombs will hit.

3.recon– recon is simple and should be done while trying to strike at enemy ships, just fly around where you last saw enemies.
don’t focus on recon, do it at the start of the round with your fast rocket bombers.

so…

that all you really need to know about carriers if you are new to them.
remember that i am not a pro so if i got anything wrong just comment.
if you got any questions comment them.
english is not my first language, in fact its my third language, so if you found anything wrong with my spelling just comment.

thank you

thank you for reading my guide, its my first guide and i hope you could learn anything from it.
