Overview
How to safely and legally change the language of all Call of Duty: Black Ops II gamemodes from any, to original english, without any third-party programs.
1. Introdution
The language of all three Call of Duty: Black Ops II apps can’t be changed neither from the Steam library, nor from the game settings level. It’s dependent to the region of the purchased game key. For example, a game with polish key is polish only.
All non-english versions of Black Ops II replaces the original font to an ugly one, that supports diacritics:
Fortunately, the game language change is still possible by a simple replacement of relevant files.
2. Replacing language files
1. Download the following file: DOWNLOAD[www.dropbox.com]
WARNING! The archive is safe. It contains the files from the english-language game only.
2. Extract the downloaded file. It should contain the following content:
- zone (folder)
- localization.txt
- localization_mp.txt
- localization_zm.txt
3. Find the game files.
In the Steam Library right click on the one of the Black Ops II applicatons and select Properties. After the window open, choose the Local files tab and select Browse local files.
The default game files localization:

WARNING! Make a backup of the game files!
4. Delete all localization.txt files from the game folder.
5. Copy the content of the downloaded file to the game folder.
6. In the game folder, search for all the filenames that contain your game’s default language. If you play polish, search for “polish” if in russian, search for “russian”, etc.
7. In each of the results, manually edit the filename by replacing your default language with “english”.
Now the game language is english. Using this method you can change the game language to any, if you find other language packs on the Internet.
WARNING! After you verify the integrity of the game files, language will be restored to the default language assigned to your CD-key!
