Overview
A guide to the characters of the DLC for the Red Barrels’ game Outlast.
Waylon Park
Short Biography- Waylon Park is the main character of Outlast’s ‘The Whistleblower’ DLC. He is also the man who emailed journalists worldwide – including Miles – to unmask Murkoff’s corrupt work. According to the character’s short overview (found here: [link], he was unable to contact his wife and children due to Murkoff’s strict security protocols. The DLC will, although its main purpose is to tell the story of how the asylum came to its current state in Outlast, also close the last chapter of the asylum after what happened to Miles.
Personality- Waylon is determined to see Murkoff suffer and will stop at nothing to see it happen.
Status- Alive as of September 18th, 2013.
Frank Manera AKA ‘The Cannibal’
Short Biography- Frank Manera (commonly referred to as ‘The Cannibal’) is a patient of Mount Massive Asylum for the Criminally Insane and is only in The Whistleblower DLC. He is a cannibalistic patient and wields a mechanical circular saw blade.
Abilities- Frank is able to pursue Waylon at almost the same speed, giving players only a little bit of an edge to get away.
Personality- Frank is cannibalistic, and hates any living thing that gets away from him and he cannot devour.
Full Dialogue-
“(laughs maniacally) The meat is mine!”
“(various grunts) You stay there…And cook!”
“I’ll find another way.”
“Hello, meat!”
“Come on! COME ON!!”
“…just the smell. You are mine. Forever.”
“Such lonely flesh. You hunger for me, too. I can see it.”
“Look how you bleed for me. Wet. Ready. Red. Wanting.”
“Don’t you look at us. I love him”
“I have to feed.”
“No! NO! You were MINE!!”
“You will be still.”
“Mine alone.”
Status- Alive as of September 18th, 2013.
Manera exclaiming, right before trapping Waylon in a cremation chamber, ‘The meat is mine!’
Eddie Gluskin AKA ‘The Groom’
Gluskin attacking Waylon.
Short Biography- Gluskin is shown in the beginning of The Whistleblower screaming for help in the underground lab. He is later found (as an enemy this time) in the vocational block. But, this time, he has named himself The Groom, taking the place of his real name, Eddie Gluskin. He hunts down the player and takes the player to his ‘lab’ where he cuts off male genitalia in an attempt to turn them into the ‘perfect bride’.
Abilities- Eddie can open doors intelligently. He is also very strong, as he is able to lift up the player, and, when he hits Waylon, he almost instantly kills him.
Personality- Eddie is severely deranged (much like Dr. Richard Trager), but remains calm enough to open doors. He seems almost desperate at times as if he really does just want the ‘perfect bride’. He is, however, highly misogynistic and shouts out misogynist slurs while pursuing Waylon.

“Darling, wait. Don’t run from me!”
“Let me love you!”
“Darling, where are you?”
“I won’t give up on you! I know you’re worth it!”
“You’re going to make me work for it, aren’t you, you minx?”
“So many ways to hide yourself from me, darling.”
“Darling, let’s not be ridiculous. Just come out and let’s talk about it.”
“You don’t have to hide from me. I only want to help.”
“God. You ungrateful ♥♥♥♥!”
“Love is hard sometimes.”
“To think I wanted you to have my children. You’re just another ♥♥♥♥♥ after all.”
“Women!”
“Forgive me, darling!”
“Why are you making me do this?!”
“Don’t leave me! I can’t be alone!”
“I would’ve loved you always!”
“Darling!”
“Did I frighten you? I’m awfully sorry I didn’t mean to. We’ve met before, haven’t we? I know I’ve seen your face.”
“Maybe…just before I woke up. Though it seems like a dream now, being here with you.”
“Love at first sight.”
“You could make me whole. I could fill that emptiness inside you.”
“Let me fill you up. You don’t have to be alone anymore.”
“Could you be the one?”
“You don’t have to run from me. I only want to love you.”
“I know you’re lonely like I am. Don’t you want love? A family? Someone to take…care of you?”
“I want to know you! I want to fix you! I want to make you better!”
“Darling, you could be so beautiful!”
“I want you…to have my baby!”
“(singing American Quartet’s I Want a Girl (Just Like the Girl That Married Dear Old Dad) When I was a boy, my mother often said to me, ‘get married, son, and see how happy you will be’. I have looked all over, but no girlie can I find who seems to be just like the little girl I have in mind. I will have to look around until the right one I have found. I want a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad. She was a pearl and the only girl that daddy ever had. A good, old-fashioned girl with heart so true, one who loves nobody else but you. I want a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad.”
“(whistling, humming, and singing I Want a Girl) (whistling)…’Get married, boy, and see how happy you will be’. I have…(humming)…can I find who seems to be just like the little girl I have in mind. I will have to…(humming)..until the right one I have found. I want a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad. She was a pearl and…(whistling)…so true, one who loves nobody else but you. I want a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad.”
“One more. I try and I try and you all betray me. …And you can hang like the rest of them.”
“(grunts) …Heavier than you look. If this is you on the honeymoon, I’d hate to imagine our (grunts) anniversary.”
“Hold still. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. What are you..? (grunts) No! Dammit, darling! No, you need to behave! (grunts) Darling, please don’t do this! I love you! Let me love you! Darling, darling, please, stop this! I-I can (grunts) I-I could still forgive you! (grunts) Darling, please! (grunts)”
“We could have…We could have…been beautiful.”
“There you go. And no, no, don’t cry. You’re not dying. I’m going to make you better.”
“Get back here! You’re not done dying, you ♥♥♥♥!”
“There you are! Darling, come back to me!”
“No! Don’t, don’t!”
“You crazy ♥♥♥♥♥.”
“You all want to leave me! Is that it?! You want to leave me?! FINE! GO! You and the rest of these UNGRATEFUL ♥♥♥♥♥!!”
“I’m trying to be patient, darling.”
“You’ll run out of places to go. I know you’re not like the others. Or are you just another ♥♥♥♥♥?”
“All of you…♥♥♥♥♥♥. Your judgement, your little swinish eyes.”
“How could you touch your little sister like that?”
“Filthy ♥♥♥♥♥. You’re like all the others.”
“You don’t deserve my children. You don’t even deserve to live! You belong with the others!”
“Darling…♥♥♥♥♥!!”
“You’re nobody’s mother!”
“You could have been beautiful!”
“I’ll rip your womb from your rotten guts! ♥♥♥♥♥!”
“Why would you do this to me?”
“Oh, God. Oh, God are you okay? Tell me you’re okay! I’d hate to think of you suffering without me!”
“We can make this better. Darling, I could patch you up. Good as…better than new.”
“Why would you do something like that to yourself? You would rather…rather die than be with me? …Then die.”
“I would’ve loved you forever.”
“What have you..? Ha! Then we continue!”
“That part of you the world sees, they think is perfect, as God intended. Even these idiots and lunatics see it. There’s something special about you…on the surface. But when they look deeper, when anybody with eyes to see looks at what you truly are…That’s why they don’t trust you. You’re not what you’re meant to be…not yet.”
“This place…can see into your mind. And the things you’ve done, oh, they’re a sin, darling. But a flower is only as sweet as the soil that nourishes it. And yours needs nourishing, and pruning, and care.”
“Hmm. Close. I can…(sniffs)…Ah! The smell of my love’s arbor. Darling, you can’t hide from me.”
“You make yourself a gift for me. A delicacy to be unwrapped and unwrapped again. And savored.”
“…Here we go.”
“I’ve been a little vulgar, I know. And I want to say I’m sorry. I just…you know how a man gets when he wants to know a woman.”
“…But after the ceremony, when I’ve made an honest woman out of you, I promise, I’ll be a different man.”
“I want a family. A legacy. To be the father I never had. I’ll never let anything happen to our children. Not like…”
(cut from DLC for unknown reasons)”The things they did to me when I was small, when I didn’t know how filthy, how wrong it was, only that it hurt. Never. Never to our children. You understand that, don’t you, darling? I would never let anybody hurt our babies.”
“You’ll have to wait here. I know you must be just as eager as I am to consummate our love, but try to enjoy the anticipation. Here, darling, this will help you relax.”
“(talking to another of his ‘darlings’) Darling, I need you to try to bleed less. I know the fairer sex often endure the same wounds with more suffering, but you really need to make an effort. …No, I’m so sorry, darling. Love isn’t for everybody.”

“(talking to another variant) Hold still now, darling. All these unsightly hairs. Oh! Silky smooth, like a little girl again. Now the more delicate bits.”
“(talking to another variant) You’ve given up. You’re ugly and you’ve given up on love. You’re not even worth stringing up. Bleed here and die.”
“You have amazing bone structure, such soft skin. You’re going to be beautiful.”
“A woman…has to suffer some things. It’s not pleasant, I know. But just try to…endure. For my sake. For the sake of our children.”
“It won’t take long. A few snips of the flesh here and…here. Cut away everything…vulgar. A soft place to welcome my seed. To grow our family.”

“Mr. Waylon Park. Consulting contract 8208. A software engineer with a level three security clearance. Graduated ♥♥♥ laude from Berkeley, but still somehow not smart enough to realize that the last thing a fly ought to do in a spider’s web is wiggle. Somehow dumb enough to think that a borrowed laptop, onion router, and firewall patch would be enough to fool the world’s leading supplier of bio-metric security. Stupid, Mr. Park. More than stupid, in fact, that was…crazy. I’m afraid we’re going to have to have you committed. Mr. Park, will you willingly submit to forced confinement? Did you hear that, Agent? Great. Oh, and…Did I just hear Mr. Waylon Park volunteer for the Morphogenic Engine program? That was brave, indeed, Waylon. The Murkoff Corporation and the onward march of science both appreciate your bravery and sacrifice. Maybe you could administer Mr. Park here a light anesthetic?”
